  1. that just pumped me up to get back out on the sled, and back out on the ice
  2. looks like a fun day, gotta love the Family Day weekend!
  3. about 180 people entered, about 40 fish caught, biggest 2.6 lbs, but most fish were recently stocked guys at around 1/2 lbs I had no bites all day, moved around from 12 FOW to 45 FOW, I only marked 1 fish all day, my cousin marked 4 fish, lost one half way up to the hole my Dad nailed a giant 0.95 lber that was good enough for 7th place, I'm holding it because his hands were frozen and I forgot my camera at the cottage he won a trail camera the prize ceremony a couple other pics while I'm posting, not from the derby a wide angle group shot oh, a polish pickerel! bonus!
  4. the Olympics are fine, but I must say I miss the NHL
  5. cool, I've caught my biggest naturals higher in the water column, it's tricky to run and gun, because the lake is packed with people I was hoping you would chime in, thanks, yeah- the lake is pretty packed with people on this lake, you don't see many blips at all, a good tip though
  6. there's a small derby we go in every year, it's this Sunday, I know there's a lot of knowledge on this forum, any tips would be appreciated some background info on the lake- -typically tough fishing, last year, us 3 guys only had 2 bites total all day, for all 120 guys, only about 25 fish get caught -lake is about 1.5 km long, 600 lakers stocked per year, no ciscos, clear water, max depth 120' -the spot we like has no obvious structure, we like 25- 30', just off bottom, we have caught fish up to 100' deep though -the local CO said there has been 10 lbs + lakers taken, but the derby winner is usually less than 4 lbs -we like set lines (2 per guy), single minnows, checking and freshening the minnows often if anyone has tips that might be worth a try, it would be appreciated if anyone is in Haliburton this weekend and interested in the derby, let me know
  7. nice catch, it's been 30+ years since I ate some of my Grandfathers caught smelt with smelt like that, I can see where the giant lakers, pike and walleye come from- soft rayed, fatty and plentiful
  8. that's what it's all about! good story
  9. nice pictures, it has been a tough winter but it looks like you guys are making the best of it was the surprise laker up top or near bottom? We catch our bows just under the ice, I'm curious if the laker was up high
  10. here's a couple pics, me watching all the robins before they head into the cedars
  11. I choose to actually go fishing this weekend, instead of bumping through a crowd, at a pseudo fishing show
  12. it's in the fine print- it's the "doesn't shut-up, thunder snoring, annoying, nudist guy", so don't bother entering
  13. I googled it and copied this Winter Birds Myth: American robins always fly south for winter. Winter Birds Fact: If there is sufficient food on their breeding grounds, American robins, bluebirds, and a host of finches and owls remain in the area where they spent the summer. As these birds often eat insects, they will instead forage among tree bark for overwintering bugs rather than on the frozen ground, where you’re more likely to see them in spring and summer I'll get a picture of them if I get a chance, they spend the nights in our cedars, if you don't believe me you could ask my cat
  14. I think you're right, it looks like a screech
  15. Coming towards my front door, after work, in the dark, I saw something on the mailbox and thought, "ok, my wife bought a little nick-knack" then it moved and startled me the little saw whet had captured one of the robins that like to spend the night in our cedars, I'm assuming he let me get so close for so long because he didn't want to loose his dinner pretty cool, the top of the mailbox is now a bloody mess though, Hahaha
  16. wow, possibly an Ontario record, if you can get the photobucket issues figured out, I'd love to see a better picture, I'm sure some others would too good on you for letting it go, good karma coming your way edit, record White Sucker 5 lbs 6.24 oz 22.8" Lake Joseph Geoff Bernardo 5/23/1996 Yellow Perch 2 lbs 6.72 oz 15.1" Lake Erie Dave Leslie 3/20/2003
  17. yeah, it zooms right in, the actual connection has no detail though, just a blue line at Mattawapika Dam I tried to paste a picture of it, but couldn't figure out how to do it (if possible?) are you concerned about how much detail you can see?
  18. I've got Topo on my computer I use for my Etrex
  19. stuff like that pisses me off too, go catch some real criminals, then the town will wonder where all the tourists have gone
  20. good information b cdot, if the outfitter is including transportation to the hut, isn't he responsible for the fines?
  21. more reports would be appreciated, that was great, looks like a perfect place to live
  22. thanks, I'll give them a call with the other # generous offer too, I don't want to burden you, thanks though
  23. I've got a broken Stradic reel (my fault, abuse) I need fixed before spring, anybody have a tip on what I should do? what # to call? good story Matty
  24. way better type of show than Italo speaking to his audience like they are in grade 2, but as said, those gripper tools aren't cool I was there in high water too and recognize some of the spots, pretty cool, Glen, Cliff and the other guys were there when I was there too, I guess they pretty well live up there the road from Manitouwadge to Caramat must have been hard on the Civic, that road is rough where you guys going this year?
