  1. What I said: "December 28 lake frozen for as far as the eye can see, with about 3" of snow."
  2. Let's hope we don't wind up singin' the same song our East coast comrades sang about the Cod fishery.
  3. December 26 Arrived Lake Nipissing Lookout on Hwy 17 westbound about 5 kms west of North Bay. Lake showing open water about 1 km from shore. December 28 lake frozen for as far as the eye can see, with about 3" of snow. Temps were -13 C at night and -4C during the day.
  4. It was interesting in the late 80's and early Nineties. That was b4 the z-bra mussells cleared up the water. Them ole walleyes would come in an stay awhile in the relative (8-12') shallows. I remember 60 fish days. Lotsa a small (1/4 lb) ones, but there were a few big ones thrown in the mix. It was a different fishery than what it has now become.
  5. Thanks for the wishes, Lew and the laugh. Have to admit, ole Marv is about the same size!
  6. Thanks for the warm wishes, Nautifish!
  7. Beauty report!! Thanks for sharing, it's good that you included the fishs' weight along with the length and girth, it gives us an idea of the size difference between an 8 pounder and a 14 pounder.
  8. 121 Good work-out for the "SPACEBAR".
  9. I find it is like a lot of other things. It's not just the ice fishing, or the Duck or Moose hunting. It's the whole experience surrounding the actual event that makes it fun.
  10. Console, for shelter from elements.
  11. At first I couldn't think of anything, then I realised, years ago I used to save up some eggshells to sprinkle down the hole cause it was supposed to attract the fish or something, other than that I don't have any particular ritual or anything.
  12. Thanks for the weblink. The last time I cleaned Pike I could have used that chart. http://books.google.ca/books?vid=ISBN08657...TJg93ZeiGXtScbI
  13. Well done Mike! Some important memories are being made.
  14. This mild spell probably plays heck with their seasonal patterns.
  15. Someone posted a day or so ago, and caught quite a few!!
  16. Years ago it took several weeks to make a change in the weather. Nowadays, a couple of days can make all the difference. Get 2 days at -30 to -40 C and you'll have plenty of ice!
  17. If something happens, then we are supposed to feel sorry.
  18. A couple of cold (-30 C) nights will fix everything.
  19. I'll give Mr Drysdale a call.
