Solopaddler - I Hope the renovations done to your home were done by qualified tradesmen ! : )) And I think Dan C has a good point. The market place peice recently done that included MH as the guest "inspector" did key in on that point also - it certainly looked like the inspectors involved in the cases in Hamilton weren't doing anywhere close to their job. Wonder why ? Pressure from the builders/city hall/contractors to get things passed so projects keep moving, permits keep getting issued and taxes/revenues keep coming in ? Makes you wonder. Inspectors are supposed to be there to ensure minimum code (which appears to be sub standard as it is according to MH) is met, things are done safely and shoddy work isn't tolerated... aren't they ? Where are these guys ?? As a consumer I'd like to think the legislators that are paid with tax dollars are doing their jobs properly.

Natural Selection Gives Way to Human Selection
rob v replied to wallacio's topic in General Discussion
To some degree the study/theory seems to make a bit of sense. ... and tends to mimic what most anglers have preached in the recent past - keep the smaller "eaters" and let the big brood fish go to reproduce similiar offspring. Trouble is when you're hunting it's tough to practice catch and release !! Perhaps hunting reg's need to be re-visited ? Fewer bull / cow tags ? -
Chas'in beaver - every red blooded Canadian's favorite thing to do !!! eh ?

Makes me wonder even more about why they go to so much trouble to get the darned things our as soon as they can. My guess is the vehicles aren't salvagable/worth much after getting dunked. So why instead of spending so much time and effort cutting the bloody things outta the ice don't they wait until it's a bit easier ? I'm sure there's good reason for some i.e. too far off shore etc, but others - what the heck - wait till the ice is gone, hook up a cable and drag the darned thing out then ? Maybe I'm not thinking this through enough ?
-
Sure makes you wanna think twice about driving on unsafe ice !! On some of those jobs, wouldn't it have been easier to mark the vehicle, wait until spring and yank it out from shore then ?? Even if you had to pump the fuel outta the tank somehow while it was in the water to minimize enivronmental issues.

There's likely some guys on this site that may be able to get you some up to date info. http://www.basshavencanada.com/swamp/index.php I'm not 100% sure (I"m not much of a trout fisherman) but you may have an opportunity for some steelhead/browns under and around the bridge in Sarnia. I lived there for 10 years and saw plenty of guys fishing for them during the fall - but I'm not sure about this time of the year - it may be a bit late. there's also a few spots off of some of the docks for perch. enjoy.

I agree with the comment made earlier, they ended up on the right side of the ledger and worked hard to the end, but it wasn't a pretty performance at many times during the game . I hope they don't make the same mistakes on Monday. Bottom line they ground out a win and that's the main thing. Go Canada.

These men and women who serve certainly deserve our support. A very touching tribute.

I'm probably going to need one of those chips also for the same area. Sounds like the lavionics gold is preferred so far. Anybody know anything about the fishing hots spots series and how they compare ? I'm sure there are some older versions of these chips out there priced perhaps a bit more reasonably (i.e. used) - are the latest versions that much better if you're just looking for the basics - e.g. depths/contours?

Hey Trout guy - some beautiful fish you got there. Nicely done. Quick question for you - From your pictures I see you're running a mercury 115 (optimax ?). I just bought one last year and haven't done any riggin yet - I hope to this summer, but I'm trying to figure out whether I'll need a kicker or not. How did you make out with yours ? I assume you used a trolling plate or drift sock ?

Do not buy the auger they're using in that video. Buy a decent auger (lazer, fin-bore - less than $100), don't bang it around (take care of the blades) and if you're fishing for anything less than big pike/walleye etc a 6 inch hole is plenty. But if you plan on cutting through 3 feet of ice regularly you might want to beef up the biceps !

Obviously a labour of love. Looks like he really enjoys himself and takes pride in his product. Good for him. I like the process he goes through, I think you could call it hand made ! Does he split his own wood too ?! I especially like the fancy maple syrup bottles !!! I,m sure he'll enjoy the movie. Great job.

That's the main reason I try never to buy anything used from family or friends. No better way to spoil a relationship/friendship - even if the rip-off isn't intentional Hopefully you bought it at a decent enough price that after the fix up it's a reasonably priced unit (?)

Hey that's the kinda hardware I think even I can afford. Thanks for the info guys. Good thing you did your travelling today Irishfield - sounds like the next couple of days are going to be a bit messy. I'm in the process of purchasing a new lowrance 525c. Icefisherman helped me find what I think is a pretty good deal - thanks Emil. I would expect it's already got the latest software upgrades (?). I was just curious about the process involved in transferring info back and forth. thanks again.

Thanks Ben - what's one of those worth ?

Hey guys, a bit of a techno-novice here - but how do you transpose that data from your computer onto the card ? Is there a peice of hardware I need to buy ? If so, can you enlighten me ? thanks.

Thanks guys - my current minnow pail won't fit in the live well - tried that. and I've tried just putting the minnows in the live well, but like Irishfield mentioned chasing them around can be a royal pain. Irishfield if you think of it tomorrow and take a picture or two of that set-up that may be helpful - maybe I could copy it somehow. I may try and rig some type of mess netting with a pvc frame to hold the top out of/on top of the live well. I saw something like that in the store a while back. thanks again.

I've got a couple of live wells in my Crestliner Fishhawk but no bait well. Anyone have any ideas on an easy way to keep live bait (minnows) in one of these livewells - I'm thinking of some sort of containter that could be dropped into the livewell to hold the bait. I know there,s some very creative people on this board and any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

Not that it's the be all and end all, but obviously english isn,t this "retailer's first language" and that would certainly be a red flag for me especially in today's internet scam filled world. If this person is selling these types of things you'd think they could take the time to reply something close to professionally - and this certainly isn't anywhere close. Drop it like a stone !

Keep thinking good thoughts - and keep the faith. Be well.

I'm afraid I can't disagree with the zero tolerance booze thing . I think there's no better way to teach young people the right way at the start. When I think of all the really dumb things me and my friends did when we were teens back in the 70's it scares the pants off of me. We were the lucky ones... in those days DUI meant 3 months no licence or your wrecked vehicle not covered by insurance. The unlucky ones are either dead or killed someone else in the process. The no more than one teenager - that's probably a bit much in my opinion. - perhaps they could change that to no more than one teenager after dark or something. But there's no easy answer. Accidents will happen - and as a society I think we need to try and make things better and try and lower the liklihood of preventable accidents - perhaps learn from other's mistakes. I read the story in the paper today about the father whose son (the son was the driver) and two or three of his friends got killed after drinking all day and driving afterwards. Tough thing to have to live with. Trouble is we have to legislate these kinds of changes.

Nice fish . Glad someone was able to take advantage of the beautiful weather. Quick question for you if I may. Do you troll with your big motor on Quinte or with a kicker. If you use the big motor - how many HP do you have ? I've got a 115 optimax recently and hope to get my rig set up to do some trolling next summer - but I'm afraid I may need a kicker.

Woman's erratic driving of Zamboni spurs charges
rob v replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Oh brother .... question 1 - how the heck does somebody in that condition find his/her way onto a zamboni without somebody else preventing it from happening. 2nd question - how did the cop pull her over !! -
I got mine too, and I enjoyed reading it. the price was right also ! Like others have said though, I'm not much into tournament bass fishing. Having said that the first edition with the fairer sex featured and a bit of eye candy caught my attention !

You're better men (and woman) then I am going out there in weather like this. Can't catch'em from the living room I guess ! Well done.
