nice job Mike. Nice loon pics. Guess that is why they call you Mike the Bass Fisher. I even like the fact that I saw a few smalljaws on there. Funny how some of those bass are fat and some are real thin. Keep up the good work. That bowfin is sick too. That must have been a scrap.

Got out yesterday morn for a few hours with a buddy. I have not been out much due to the fact that I had been travelling for a while and spent a week at the cottage. Anyway I went to regular spots but there was nothing regular about them. One spot used to be choked with weeds not has none. Absolutely 0 weed cover. Odd. Anyway I start drop shotting in another spot and am constantly getting bit by some small fish. I try to set hook but nothing. It is gettting really annoying as it is constant. Finally I manage to hook one of the small fish (I snagged it in its side). To my surprise I pull out a Goby. WTH? The place is full of them. Thousands! Wow, alot changes in a month. After a few small fish we decide to move to another spot and finally get some decent fish. Nothing spectacular but fun non the less. I lost a real big pig on a jump. Probably could have gone 5. Which is odd because 5s don't usually jump like this but this fish managed to clear about 30" out of the water 15' away from the boat. Not too happy about the Goby situation in Simcoe right now. I was guessing 4.6 before I read the answer. Hard to tell how fat it was from that pic. When I catch smallies and weigh them I am usually within 2 or 3 tenths of a pound away from the weights and we are talking 3 - 4 pounders.

How would this rod compare to an ugly stik? Which would be more sensitive? Which would be lighter? At $47.50 these rods look pretty good. I will have to do a side by side by side comparison with the ugly stik the volteus and the nrx. The nrx is probably not as strong. I will try to touch the tip of the rod to the handle of the nrx when I go to the store (that is a good test of strength. You can do it with the ugly stik).

Don't know much about kayaks but that one looks cool. How much does it weigh? It looks a bit chunkier and possibly more stable than most.

diggyj doesn't work for the company as far as I know. Mark Kulik designed and makes these baits. Mark is a really solid bass tourney guy and guide. Simcoe Bait and Tackle is now called Rack and Reel. It is still in the same location in Barrie and I just bought 2 packs of slammers there yesterday.

Do you by chance have any pics of an 8 or 9 pound bass from that lake? I have never seen an ontario 9 pounder. That would be sweet!!! Are the 8 and 9 pounders smallies or largemouth? Also, if you wouldn't mind sending me the lake coordinates, it would be much appreciated.

If you do try that lake drop me a line first. Not a great lake to do a one-dayer on. Has taken me a few weeks to get a grasp on.

It is a fisher girl rod from CT. Not a great reel but it lights up when you reel in. It is one of my daughters. I originally bought a pfleuger lady endeavor from ct. It is a much better rod and reel but I couldn't justify the price for my daughter who would likely break it.

Just back from a week at a cottage near Parry Sound on Lake Manitouwabing. This lake is a real little gem. Lots of places to fish and it can produce but you really have to work at it. Not an easy lake to figure out and by no means have I done so, but it is lots of fun trying to get the better of it. A good mix of smb, lmb, walleye, and some pike. Smallies were mostly on Slammers with a few tubes mixed in. Largies on senkos. Also caught some nice fish on wakebaits in the morning. I love catching fish on those and I probably overuse them. Fishing with 3 small kids and my wife could never be described as relaxing but the girls did manage to catch some PBs with their smallies and my eldest daughter actually got up with me at 6am in the fog and managed a real nice walleye and we only fished for 1 hour. I did most of my fishing from 5:30 am until 8:30 am (when the kids get up), but I did manage to sneak away for a few afternoon stints. Leaves are already turning despite being early August. Leaves changing colour are never really a good sign for me. I also managed to hit a huge floating log while pulling the kids on a tube. Luckily it did no damage. Not sure how it did not damage the boat or outdrive because it weighed more than 100 Pounds. Nice weather and a great family resort. Highly recommended. Nice LMB off a wall ledge. It was about 6 inches below surface. Big piece of wood. Check out the marks my prop and skeg left on it at the end. No damage to boat (I think).

Me too. Spent most nights sitting on a big rock at cottage watching them flying all over the place. Must have seen over 20 one night.

10 pound test + kayak + 30 pound chinney = not good cool report though.

Sock thing doesn't work. Driving a lambo does though.

Just got back from the cottage up in Parry Sound area and you are correct. 70% of my fish came on slammers. 20% on tubes and 10% on wakebaits and another 10% on worm harness. Do the calculations. When I fish I give 110% all the time. lol. I do love the slammers. My new favourite bait these days. Mark has developed an awesome bait and if you fish for smallies, you need to get some. No question about it. Now I need to figure out how to stop the little fish biting off the bait's tail.
