My favourite time to catch big smallies.

On my way home from work I am listening to the radio and the weatherman says a low of 13 degrees, cloudy and no rain. Wow! That is pretty warm for this time of year. I immediately pull over to the side of the road and text Jaydub to see if he is up for some fishing after 8 pm. I went night fishing by myself last Monday nad although I marked loads of fish I managed to only catch 2 good size rock bass. Losts of fish chase but not many commit to the bite. Quite odd. Anyway, we are on the water no more that 3 minutes and I have a good bite. I manage to get it to the boat but it jumps and hits the boat and gets off. It was a good smallie but I did not land it. Fishing tonight was slow but with the weather being perfect it was still fun. Managed a couple rock bass, perch and some smallies. Jaydub with a little smallie Cudz with a nice big smallie

Congrats to you Ryan. I have 3 kids right now and if you think you didn't have any time before, just you wait. lol As far as tax goes I am pretty sure you pay the hst when you change over the reg. As for a new bigger boat, there is this guy on TV who hosts a fishing show. He gave away his boat last year through a subway promotion. His name is Steve Mercer or Rick Mercer or something like that. Anyway, maybe you should keep your ear to the ground to see if if that Mike Mercer will give away another boat. If he is going to run the contest again and I catch wind of it, I will PM you to let you know.

Gobies can't eat fish that are over 4" so for the next 5 years we should have some big bass on simcoe. The problem that might occur is that bass fry will not make it with the number of gobies around so after all the big fish die there won't be any more bass. I hope I am wrong.

Cain is fast and strong despite being a small heavyweight. I knew as soon as Lesner Bull rushed him at the start and did not get the takedown it was going to be a tough battle.

Yes Simon I do on a regular basis. I will post more on the hardwater this upcoming season. I am actually looking forward to ice fishing season this year. I have a few new tools.

Managed to squeeze in a couple of hours on kbay this late afternoon. Went 4 for 5 with some pretty fish. Nothing huge yet but still having fun. Was hoping to see Jigger out there today but life got in the way. Maybe next time Jarred. 3.5 pounder Thisone is 3 pounds

Got out on the bay this morning. Beautiful day and managed a 7-noon pass from the misses. Did ok I guess but no big fish. I went 8 for 10 and 5 of those were cookie cutter short fat 2 pounders (which to me is quite odd as this time of year usually produces 4s and 5s more frequently than 2s). Lost on big fish about 10 ft from the boat and my biggest landed fish was 4.2 pounds. Fish are kind of all over the place right now and I caught fish in water from 12ft to 45ft. Fun day, just didn't get the weights I was looking for. Fish are getting fat but they are not yet the football they can be. The next two weeks should be pretty good.

I have some more expensive reels but this spring I bought an Abu Garcia 503 from CTC when it was on sale for 50% off. I paid $39.98 and I also bought one for my dad. A good reel for that price. I was so impressed I also bought a 501 too but when I looked in the box it turned out to be a 601 (even better!) and I got it for the same price too. No real complaints about it except for the screws on the body came a bit loose. Put a tiny amount of loctite on each on and it has been good ever since. Last year I also picked up an U.S. Reels SX 230. Got it brand new off ebay for 59.99. By the time it got to me it ended up costing $90 but it is a good reel with a nice drag system

The main power on/off rocker switch on my vexilar is pooched. I need a new one but have looked all over in stores such as the source, princess auto, ideal supply, hobby shops etc for one but without luck. It is very small 6a 125vac the number on the side is j-606 6a 125vac. it looks like this and it is very small. If anyone knows where I can get one (the closer to Barrie the better) could you please enlighten me. I need it by the weekend. thanks
