  1. That is funny. I too am looking forward to some smallie action. Long wait for sure. Summer can't come fast enough.
  2. Congrats for sure. Nice shootin. Always nice to get that monkey off your back. There was a time when I just could not get anything right when fishing for lakers and whities on the hard water. Without electronics I would still be frustrated.
  3. As far as I could tell they were both natural. Kind of cool.
  4. Got out on the penultimate day of ice fishing for lakers and whities on Simcoe. Not nearly as active as last week and I had to move 3 times before finding fish that would commit to taking the bait. I packed it in by 12:30. Only had 3 bites and landed 2 fish. The whitie came 15 ft off the bottom to smack the swammer. Just like a lake trout would do. I have never had a whitie swim 15 ft up to hit a lure. The little laker was really strong and I thought I had a 8+ pound fish. Instead I pulled up a football/hunchback little trout. Too funny. Both fish were caught on strikezone swammers and both go caught on the stinger hook. I tried everything today (spons, tubes, badboyz, rapalas, darters etc). Had about 5 or 6 chasers but on 3 fish to actually take a bite Here are the pics. Both fish were released.
  5. I was out today. might try again tomorrow if my wife gives me a pass (doubtful)

    Finally

congrats on everything. Never underestimate how fast lakers can swim when they want to.
  7. That vid was nuts!!!!!!!! Whole houses just swept away. THat wave just kept coming.
  8. I have been having trouble myself with this. I find that if you wait until the fish is about 4 ft away and then really burn it at the start they really put the heat on and chase fast. causes a reaction type strike. DOn't underestimate how fast they can swim
  9. I was at the game last night and I also ate a whole bunch at the Real Sports bar and grill. I just wanted to see where my contribution to the pension fund is going. Can't really complain about that return. That TV in that bar is pretty sick too. Makes sense to sell if those are the actualy figures.
  10. My favourite technique is watching my vexilar non-stop. This is very important. It is when you look away that those lakers will cahse and by the time you pick up your rod it is too late and they are already going back down to the bottom. I hate that!
  11. Just back from ctc. Huts are on sale and ice rod reel combo 40% off too. Saw an 8" sub zero auger for $35.99 but I already have one so I did not buy it.
  12. I may be wrong but I think the hds 5x is not gps capable by itself. It can be hooked up to another gps though and is capable that way. It just can't take a mapping card. I may be wrong but that is my understanding so be careful it is not a gps/fishfinder by itself.
  13. Too much $$$. Too bad. BPS is free.
  14. There were guys on the trail who were harnessed but our guy the camera toting dude was not harnessed. Insane.
  15. Exactly. If you watch it on slow mo you might think it is on purpose but the game is not played at that speed. Chara might have given him an extra little shove but there is no way he could have planned that. At the speed they were going no chance. It was unfortunate but not intentional.
  16. Just be aware. My buddy has one of these setups. THe rod is good but I don't think the butt section is long enough but it is expandable. It also has the powerhump which I don't like. THe reel is very hard to dial in properly. I have had experience with baitcasters for over 25 years and I have a difficult time with this setup. The guide on the reel that goes back and forth also broke after using it 5 times or so but BPS backed it no questions asked and gave him a new one. I would go for a better reel. You can buy a carbonlite rod for like 69 bucks now until the 10th or march. I think you can even get a raincheck if they don't have them. I would also go with a curado (with reel exchange it is 149) I know it is expensive but it is a legit setup. So minus your 100 gift certificate, it will run you around 100 bucks
  17. No spincast, no ugly stik. Enough already ugly stik lovers.
  18. Too funny Steve, I was actually going to try my last 2 swammers I have left over when I got again and I was thinking they would probably work. Now I know the answer. They will work. I only have 2 left. One is smoke and the other is Blue. I don't care I will use them anyway. Nice job on the lakers. Ihad like25 chasers the other day and I was in a similar spot to you.
  19. If you buy an ungly stik we are going to fight.
  20. Their senko style worm is too skinny to fit on my o rings. They slide right though. I just remembered I have a bunch of them and i meant to use them for ice fishing. Thnaks for reminding me.
  21. maybe. Depends what we are talking about. Frogs on pads no fluoro leader obviously. Night fishing for smallies, no leader needed. Guess it depends how fast you might be fishing them as well. I probably don't need a fluoro leader on wakebaits because generally speaking the line isn't even in the water.
  22. Buy 2 spinning rods and reels before you buy 1 baitcaster. When you buy the baitcaster make it a good one. Don't cheap out. Line- Almost all my rods have the same setup. 15 pound braid mainline and a 20' 8 pound fluoro leader. If you are fishing stained water just remover the leader. IF you are fishing simcoe leave fluoro leader on
