I have been keeping an eye out for a pair of uninsulated outdoors boots over the winter and I stumbled across the Irish Setter Wingshooters on sale at Sail for $119.99. This is a great price for this boot. They are not on the Sail website or in the flyer so it may only be at the Burlington location (?). I tried them on and walked around the store for half an hour and these boots are really comfortable. Just finished greasing them up with mink oil and am going out for a walk to work them in a bit, though they don't feel like they really need too much working in. http://hunt.irishsetterboots.com/irishsetter-shoe/807-irish-setter/807-irish-setter-mens-wingshooter-auburn Burt

I think most also list line diameter in mm and capacity in M as well. And I guess that is why the braid manufacturers list a comparable mono line test on their packaging. Burt

Lol.... this is one reason I hate working in a new rod, clean cork...... its nice when you have a well used favorite and the cork wears to a nice dark "patina"... Burt
-
I guess I am a bit of a traditionalist, I like a full cork handle. What about the lack of or "minimalist" foregrip??? Lots of rods are coming out like that now, Daiwa - Abu Garcia - Berkley to name a few.... looks weird. Burt

You're going to have to trade him some Dominican mamajuana for it lol....

So I picked up a bottle of the Ron Zacapa 23 Centenario, mostly because of the nice bottle and it came in a box lol... He said one of his high roller poker buddies has brought it over before and if he would buy any bottle he would have picked that one, so I think I did OK. I think he normally drinks Bacardi or Capt Morgan so at least its something different. Thanks very much for all the suggestions.... I may have to try this stuff. Burt

BPS deal: $10 - Ultra-light, long-handled, basket-style net

I think that was Friday March 15th only by looking at the flyer. After sale $22.99? Burt -
Wow, thanks for all the info and suggestions, I will look through the LCBO website and find something for him. Burt

One of my buddies does my taxes and we usually give him a big home made lazagna and a case of tall boys. I know he likes rum, anyone have a suggestion on a good light/amber rum that's not "run of the mill"? Thanks, Burt

Fishing maps - Big and Little Marten, Bruce, McPhee Lakes?
Burtess replied to Burtess's topic in General Discussion
Thanks guys! So I guess they just call it Marten Lake then and I can send off for that map. They may have "fishing" maps up there at the stores I would imagine, I will check that out when I get there. Burt -
I am heading up to the Marten River area the third week in June and am looking to purchase detailed maps of these lakes. I have checked a couple of fishing map websites and they only list "Marten Lake", which I assume is Big Marten but none of the others. Anyone know where (if) the others are available? Thanks, Burt

Ice thickness out of Oro 4 was about 11" black ice + 3" white on top today. Some cars and vans out. I think the sunny day did not have as much impact on the ice because of the shielding effect of the heavy fog that finally lifted around 1pm. Oh yeah...... one herring for our efforts lol.... Burt

I will be on Simcoe tomorrow. I did a drive by on the way home from Midland today to check the access. I have gone out of Oro line 2 in the past but checked out line 4 and 7. Lots of guys out all over in ATV and snowmobile. Could see a large pressure crack out from line 4 (over towards BBP). A couple trucks out off of line 7. The only areas you need to watch are the cracks and the shoreline right now, still lots of ice out there. Burt

Yup, I've been out 3 times so far and nothing for me yet. I will try one last time for the season this Saturday. I have been going out of Oro 2, think I might try out of Oro 7 this time. Good luck!!! Burt

I picked up a Humminbird Piranhamax 160PT back in December price matched at CT for $115. Right now they have them on for $110.49. http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/5/SportsRec/Fishing/FishFinders/PRDOVR~0793912P/Piranha+160+Portable+Fish+Finder.jsp?locale=en At the time it was suggested to get a better unit but my logic was that the portable case / battery / charger by itself was selling for $140, so even if it didn't work so good, I would just sell the unit cheap on Kijiji and keep the rest. Just mount a better unit in it. This thing works. Colour and higher resolution would be nice, but it does work. The upper line is a dead sticked tube jig, the bottom line is a swimbait in 115ft of water. You can see both swivels too. Burt

Lol.... see below... The 0 degrees Celcius is the same as the Ice Cube and the Sub Zero from Crappy Tire isn't it? Yes, now that I read it over, I can see why this is........ I slid a 1/2" piece of CPVC I had lying around over it tight to the hub and to the corner pocket, looks like that will last temporarily. I also bought a 72" X 3/8" fiberglass driveway marker that I will trim and glue it in when I am done for the season. Found that fix online. Burt

I drive about 70K a year and have had them on my vehicles for the past 6 years or so. Well worth the $ for added safety and piece of mind.... Burt

Good job on the third place win! Looks like Miskwabi? I guess a lot of the lakes in that area look the same from those angles lol... Burt -
Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 - out from Oro Line 2 - 110 ft water - lots of fish marked, lots of follows but no committals. Friday, Feb. 22, 2012 - out from Oro Line 2 - 115 ft water - many fish marked, some follows, no takers. Burt

Use them all the time on a quick strike rig, the bigger the sardine the better in my experience. I hang them a foot or so off the bottom, head down. Burt
-
I jig with my ultralight for the panfish, and usually set a tip-up with a big sardine if there are pike in the area. Paid off this time. I took him last weekend and we got skunked. I am going to head up to Simcoe this Wednesday to scout out the action, and am going to bring him up the next weekend or so. Burt
