  1. Got musky skunked again yesterday, the worst part is I caught 2 different t-shirts, lol, got one orange shirt trolling a deep diver in 30 feet, then 2 hours later I got a blue t-shirt on the opposite side of the river over 500 yards away in 18 feet off a hump. You would think the odds of catching 2 t-shirts in the same day on a particularly unpopulated fishing river with little pollution would be far greater than getting a musky but......I guess not. I'll have to get one tomorrow I guess, a musky that is, didn't take pics of the shirts sorry.
  2. That's cool Lew, I remember seeing a documentary on TV as well about all the ships they sink in Canada for artificial reefs, I think any fisherman could appreciate that especially if you use to sail on it for years. I know I would like her here on Georgian Bay, would be my new favorite musky spot, plunk it down on the deep edge of a big shoal and bounce crank baits of it all fall and hope you don't snag a scuba diver.
  3. Try the antique road show.
  4. That's a great pic.
  5. Your good for a couple years at least and even then rotten dirty stinky roe works good too anyway, but your fine, I use to pre tie hundreds of bags and freez them and use them 2 or 3 years later and never cured eggs ever, it takes the smell, color and texture away.
  6. Very nice Mike all the driving and solo trip payed off. Never leave home without a glow stick. I miss river fishing bows it's been a while, but I use to be a night hawk when everyone was leaving I was just showing up with a pocket full of glow sticks and they hit all night long from dusk till dawn.
  7. I know BOQ is know for trolling and usually deep in the fall (I've never fished there) but here on Georgian Bay when everyone is fishing deep, I fish in 3-12 feet of water up on top of shoals or close to drop offs or current, and have caught all my walleyes over 30" in less than 12 fow with lot's sitting up in 3 or 5 feet of water, night time and a hour before is always a good time to check shallow, sometimes you just get skunked no matter what you do. Also when your under 15 feet of water I notice at least on my fishfinder that it won't mark fish as accurately, sometimes not at all, some of my best days have been when the fishfinder didn't mark a single fish all day and sometimes it's packed full and I get skunked. It's good to trust your electronics but just being on the best structure is just as important even if your not marking anything.
  8. The full new units do include it, but theres also seperate new adapter they have for all the older units you can plug in to your transducer at $600us if you want to upgrade your existing finder.
  9. That broadband adapter looks sweet, for $700cnd though ? it will be $300 in 2 years, damn inflation on new technology. Yep, too many to count even with the best chip, gps is just a start point than it's all sonar, I just mark way-points all along the actual break lines of good musky trolls and go by that. This is why the 3D underwater views don't work either because they just follow the GPS contours and they aren't even close most times, I don't even turn the 3D on ever it's useless.
  10. Sweet fish man, fall fatties.
  11. Good luck. All my favorite fall river spots are on the shore lines anyway even though I'm always in a boat, so it can be good if you already know the structure of the river and can walk to one of those shoreline spots, if not any narrows would be a good start. I would be bottom bouncing jigs and large minnows and leaving the slips at home.
  12. Yes, and they have a little range in the back were they'll let you try them out before you buy one, at least they did for my dad when he went down last year. Basically the higher the pound rating on the bow, the more powerful it is and also harder to pull back. So for Turkey you wouldn't need a big powerful bow a beginner bow would be more than enough, but if you plan on deer or moose later on than you'll want as high poundage as you can get and feel comfortable with.
  13. Start off with learning the law and what licenses you'll need, and the courses you'll have to take ect.. to hunt, before thinking of what compound or gun you want and go from there.
  14. Well you truly do need at least 2 musky rods, one for normal baits and one for huge baits if you use them, you can get away with using any extra heavy bass rod for any light musky baits with no problems, they work good especially flipping sticks. If not the okuma musky rods are good for the price or the shimano and then the st croix premier would be next. Musky rods are durable, usually you can find real good used ones in the classifieds for a lot cheaper but still function like new. It all comes down to the baits, you need stiff rods for musky or the lures won't work correctly, usually cheap rods are not stiff at all and you'll have a hard time making the baits run good, and worst of all you won't get a good hook set if you do get into a big one. So you probably can find a cheap generic musky rod that will do good but just make sure it's stiff and only bends 2, 3rds up, not like your typical cheap rod that starts to bend rite at the cork.
  15. That's crazy, looks like a damn ant eater with fins.
  16. Well it's finally over, 2 years of adds and watching debates on every channel, yes even in Canada it's on every channel, in fact I know more about US politics than I do of Canada's simply because we don't hype it up for 2 years before an election, matter of fact I didn't even see one debate for Canada, lol. Anyway glad it's over and I hope all the Americans on here got who they wanted, now if he actually changes anything for the better that's another story.
  17. Raf, I'm betting by the 13th full moon they'll show up, calling for cold weather next week should drop it down to the 42 range by then. Yeah it only has one hook, and yes remove it to keep the hook count but it also would get in the way if you left the back hook anyway. What I do is just attach a floro musky leader of 12-18" on the back ring and just hook the spoon on the other, it will run your bait higher a little bit with the lift from the spoon but not much. I've caught lot's of pike with this technique on both the spoon and the crankbait.
  18. The small ones think there big too, got this trolling 5mph at night, fish was only a couple inches bigger than the lure.
  19. Those would be nice, haven't seen any that big before. I got a few of the 6" ones that are deadly on everything, I'll take the back hook off a big crankbait and let one float off the back split ring and see what happens.
  20. Cool thanks Solo, I'll have to bring a ultra light with me again and give it another shot this year. Yeah, I haven't seen one yet in this spot but I know the monster muskies will be close by whether they want to eat a crankbait over a whitefish buffet is in question. Well I'm no pro at this, last year was the first attempt around the whitefish spawn and I had no match the hatch looking baits, tried tossing big bulldawgs and trolled some believers with no luck. They only stay there for a few days and come in just before night and stay active for around 3 hours after dark so this year I want to try a couple days and stay out past dark. Think I'll go with big 14" Jake's this year and just keep trolling all around them, I got one whitefish pattern so I'll try that and then some brite and noisy baits at night to make them stand out. From some articles I've read, some giant muskies have been caught around the whitefish spawn and I caught one in the same spot the other day even with no whitefish there yet so they could be staging getting ready for the buffet.
  21. The November full moons coming up on the 13th I think, maybe that'll be a good day to check, in this particular spot the last two years it was 42-45 both years, but maybe the full moon phase is a key trigger as well. You ever catch any while they were spawning ? I've tried everything and they won't even sniff it.
  22. Anyone see the whitefish spawning yet this year ? They came in last year on the Bay at around 42-45 surface temp but haven't seen them yet this year and it was 45 last time I was out. I'm planing on trolling all around them for a big musky, I tried to catch the whitefish last year but they have lock jaw something serious, they won't eat anything while spawning but I know the muskies will be eating them. I'll try to take a picture of the whitefish this year if I can, there must be thousands of them because it looks like it's raining real heavy in a full 300 yard area everywhere you look. I had no idea what they were 2 years ago when I first seen them, but accidentally snagged one while walleye fishing around them.
  23. Congrats on such a good day and new PB.
  24. You'll get'em next time. So much for that nice day the weather network predicted 2 days ago, lol, still says 15-16 degrees all week now, we'll see. You guys left at the best time of day ? were you getting cold out there.
