Thought the hand-tied done last year would be the cats arse Dan... Great color patterns, flash, saddle, buck... all looked great. In water they were a little long and slender and managed to catch only a few. Yet they're bulkier than Spros but not as bulky as Joes (or whatever your local ones are) and they're nothing like yours but all those catch fish well. Anyways, will be doing some serious retying on a rain day off soon.

Been getting more into tribbin' as well. Really liked the fall time spent, and then this springs first efforts. Don't have the custom pole and pin though, so to the elite my experience might just be considered "gay." lol. Impressive post to say the least Chris. Amazing inaugural year to great steelheading and certainly some perfect time spent on the rivers. All time fishing is time well spent. Solid pics too.

Whole incident reeks of stupidity. lol. -
Coolio brutha Dan. We'll keep it rollin' as is and share the product reviews in this new forum.

Touche Dan. Funny, the 3 of us were looking at dozens of fish throughout the afternoon but they had lock-jaw. Come that evening they were still all around everywhere, but in our short couple hour window when they bit, we picked up 9. Thought that was awesome because it was our first trip, and then you and Wayne arrived. Great time had.

Six week long trips... have only seen that once Dan. What a crazy sight to see too. Hopefully will again sometime. Because you're right, casting to those fish is an awesome experience.

Think this a solid idea guys as there have recently been a couple businesses I almost feel guilty not giving a shout out for after receiving great customer service. It's rare I want to put that kind of thing into fishing discussion or a report so this will serve well. Do have a couple questions that stem from the guidelines. 1. You may post a review and a link to the item as long as you have no monetary gain from it. Is this even permitted anywhere in OFC forums? It happens here often. 2. This is not a forum for blasting a product that you do not like if you have a beef with the company or item take it to the company. We can post negative comments about products that are first posted about in a positive way, yes? 3. This is not for posting reviews about fishing guides, lodges,or local services they will be deleted Guides often post reports here in fishing discussion which ultimately promotes themselves, their services, and thus leading to gain. Anglers visiting lodges/outfitters do the same and also from time-to-time receive perks. Is it fine that everyone do the same in that forum? I'd almost think this new forum would be better suited to that, no? .

Dropshoting, marketing or real science behind it?

That's as good an explanation as any right there. But that thar fancy shtuff does a darn tootin' good job of catching fish. -
Dropshoting, marketing or real science behind it?

Why it's likely considered "finesse" is because of the subtleties of bait/lure movement. One idea for best results with soft plastics for example, is to have a weight that puts you on bottom but isn't overly heavy, and just the line lightly jigged but keeping the weight still, will give the bait enough action to entice a strike. It's a very unaggressive way to fish that works well. But again, overall I guess it's almost as old as time... just back in fashion in a different sort of way. -
No one is more enthusiastic about the drop than you Steve. But hey man, it totally works for you everytime... as has been noted often.

Ontario...? Some incredible fisheries across this Province from drive-to to fly-in. Too many ideas to list really... especially with that recipe of fish species. But from Chicago area I'd think NW Ontario would be as easy a choice for travel as anywhere else in the Prov, and that'd open up a tonne of options yet to be explored, especially on the muskie front. Have a buddy from Wisconsin that comes up each year and has fished different NW Ontario spots and almost too many amazing arctic Canada fisheries for lakers and pike. If you'd ever want suggestions for that, I could certainly ask Seth about any places you're thinking about. Do have some favorites for ON though, a list which keeps growing with age.

Prefer the SpinShot VMC's over Gammys by a mile. No experience with the Owners.

Dropshoting, marketing or real science behind it?
Moosebunk replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
Funny first response Rich. Gave a chuckle here man, Dropshotting dramatically increased smallie numbers and size of fish last fall. First season really applying it all, I was amazed. Tactic would likely come easy to anyone who jigs walleye regularly, and this presentation on a couple totally foreign lakes worked very well. Didn't go out and buy anything "special" for it other than the VMC hooks and some pencil weight sinkers. Normal braided 10-20lb line, medium spinning rod, floro lead, hook and sinker, usual things required really. Yeah.. that way it all sounds old school, but it is a little more refined with some new products and even ideas for doing it. Don't blow the bank getting all the marketed tactic specific gear if you have a rod that will do the job already, seriously. Some guys seem to prefer all floro main lines... Watched a buddy pluck a couple stubborn sunning specks that just wouldn't go for any other thing, even a worm under a bobber right over their heads. Dropshotting is just one more tool for the trade. -
Or just catching bottom while trolling 5mph and the drags set to a two hand pull. Them Scottys will bend backwards before breaking. lol.

Found this book very easy to follow and it covers alot of common and good patterns of dries, wet, nymphs, streamers and salmon patterns. By the time you finish tying everything in it, you'll have little issues tying much of anything.
-
Well, that'd be an option with the plastic Lund brackets then too Terry. Use two or three to mount one track on and then slide and lock all three down. But again, even loading a few rods in holders off of that, I'd still be leary in the end. I just drilled for Scottys as the mounts are small and stay under the cover. You'll like this one of Andy flippin me off. lol. And, you can see what the brackets are actually getting used for. lol.
-
Just drill the holes Terry. Make that tub yer own. Sport Trak ain't all that bad for the light stuff. Their weakness is found if and when someone grabs, reefs or leans on one at a certain angle. Snap!

Just like clock work.... Specks were hungry again :)
