  1. Tank Goby! Dead...
  2. Yes... a 70 walleye a day lake ain't too hard to take. Great time with Pops and a meal could only be the outcome of that.
  3. Today on Global National. In Newmarket Ontario a crowd assembled in the downtown core to gaze in wonder at the amazement of one ferocious black bear napping in an actual tree. Scared for their lives several bystanders called the Ministry of Natural Resources, all simultaneously receiving the same voice mail prompting them to call sometime back into the 1980's when they still did exist. Frustrated they Instagrammed and Facebook'ed selfies of themselves (duh) with the bear in the background and, later that day we learned the same black bear wasn't only in Newmarket at that time, but, it had been seen all across Canada. Most accurate source of info locating the furry carnivore reports that it was Ewout Blom of Holland that actually first sighted the bear. It was in fact eating a smaller bear somewhere around Turtle Lake before it wandered to Newmarket, climbed a tree, and entered into it's food coma after the meal. When Police arrived on scene, one clever constable thought that offering donuts to the bear might help coax it from the tree. Hoping it might feed on Boston Cremes and Honey Crullers, the meat would instantly sweeten before they could finally execute the bear. Meat would be given to the local Legion, all the old timers in Newmarket would be fed, the world would continue to turn. Unfortunately, the bear didn't want the donuts when it came down from the tree. Instead, spooked by all the bystanders, flashing lights and men with guns, it took off running towards a yellow car which it probably presumed was a honey bee on return to it's hive but was in fact a school bus. (if only Wynne had banned yellow cars a little sooner) Boarding the bus, kids screamed and cried as the bear entered into a frantic state, ripping limbs from Sally Jay, Tommy Chung and bus driver Moe. Escaping the emergency exit, last child out wisely closed the doors trapping the bear. Several hours later once the Military arrived, the bear was captured and transported to Newmarket Psychiatric Hospital. Charges will be laid against the bear, and there's rumor that Mother Nature may stand trial for it's role in the crimes committed today. Until that time, the bear is currently undergoing psychiatric evaluation, although pending that, it is expected the bear will plea not guilty to any charges. We will be following up as more news comes in.... Global National, the Moose.
  4. It was a heavily guarded secret in Moosonee / Moose Factory. That patient had to sign an oath of secrecy... but plenty family and staff members sure threw patient confidentiality right out the window. lol.
  5. Nice Tim! Great looking camp and trip to set off the season.
  6. Watched bits and pieces at a time this morning and enjoyed what I saw. Hearst Air, Mel, Mike, George and the gang there are all great. For pike, Pym, Napken & Quantz would be their best 3 flyouts. Nice to see some of Quantz here. Man... the pike and eye fly-in reports are really starting to get me thinking. Agree with Mitch too, love August/September equal to May/June when it comes to fishing those species. Thanks for posting.
  7. Dood actually presented to the hospital once for accidentally drinking antifreeze instead of his Pepsi. Grabbed the wrong can. Lucky for him the antidote is alcohol. By weight calculation every hour for 24 hours we had to give him a shot and a half of rum. He happily lived. Your truck will too Lew. Don't think I'd add it all at once though... just have it sip the fuel in moderation.
  8. These 3 had me crying! Back to back... Awesome. Joey you little devil you! As for the muskie, Sneak_e_pete I missed that post. Often away or quite busy with work that time of year. Your fish is wicked bud, sorry to have missed it then, but I'll tell ya now. With guys like Pete Maina & Marc Thorpe on the membership here, I'd say one of them would run away with the OFC muskie crown here easy. For me, I do cherish a 56" from 2013. Real special fish, up there in the top 5 for sure. http://ontariofishingcommunity.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71662
  9. Don't have WFN but did just see it here. Right on Clive! The best to ya bud.
  10. Closing bass for ice season is kinda ridiculous dontchyas think? Being that "ALL" fish under the ice are prone to certain winter habits which can be predicted, fish of many kinds will be caught and some will be kept. Protecting a more plentiful fish such as bass while most other species (some less plentiful) remain open just goes to show how bass ackwards we have it in our thinking. What makes them so special anyways? lol Smallies do rock tho!
  11. I've been meaning to visit for some time Roy. Heard there's muskies up that way... and yourself too. No wonder it's number one dood!
  12. Yeah.... saw that after. Most tubes are usually 250. It must be a bigger rig with thinner materials though, because the weights of the two are the same.
  13. That Cumberland does allow more weight though... maybe it is beefier?
  14. It is and isn't that good a deal. For $20 more at its regular price you could have IMO a better tube. The Cumberland is much like a TUC tube I once owned a short time before selling, it was nice but not as good and even durable as the OutCast. http://www.cabelas.ca/product/56619/outcast-fish-cat-4-float-tube
  15. Beverly Hills Cop and Porky's Movie Night at Brians. Wooo VHS Hooo!!!
  16. Can't bring myself to go quite that "Metro sensitive" with a buff yet. But, we as men after our mid 30's do lose about 1% of our testosterone per annum. Maybe the levels could reach low enough in time. Ti'll then I'll roll the dice... because the sun does give us through our skin the best doses of one of the strongest anti-oxidants we can absorb. Vitamin D doods. Lots of block on for the ears and nose though, couple of higher percentage oma spots.
  17. The initial story of him missing still seems like yesterday. Most of us read it here. Today does not seem like four years later, but to his family we can only imagine it felt like 40. Good the family can now lift from it's shoulders one heaviest burden of mystery and lay much more than just Daniel to rest.
  18. Gar can't see forward too well at all... and they can't reverse well either. If you're stealthy, you could net gar off the bow of your boat if you approach them quiet and head on. They were no match for that fence they were being pushed into, that's for sure.
  19. Yes man! Imperial it is. Down there some years ago with Bren I bought two. Milked one of them to death. In any reports (and some still) I'm wearing a black T with the Imperial dragon logo. Down there last year bought five more and haven't worn a few of them yet. Beer is OK.. but the shirts are like $5 so why not load up on them eh? Seems when people find a crappie spot there's almost always some sort of drama that ensues. Up around Ottawa some years ago it was Petrie that made for issues for one local bully and some kids... Silly. And I too remember fishing the closest lake to me one evening and banging 'em good, keeping only 16 for the table though. Wasn't 24 hours later I was booted off a website because it was the straw that broke one crappie God's back. lol. It was his spot and I needed permission for it I guess... That night there'd been 3 other boats go through there. lol. Week or so later, my buddy and I were in there again with 6 other boats fishing craps. All those other people had nothing to do with me or who I talked to... one fella I hadn't even met before did ask us if we had permission from the same so-and-so to fish there. It's public water man! My buddy and I just laughed about it, but it's funny how some people just go retarded over crappies... and in your case, the crowds literally come and ruin the fun in a totally different way.
  20. You have no idea how busy the ER is today, and this just made my 15 minute coffee break fly by. Great read.
  21. They're not that deep. The MD's, Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment companies may just be able to bill the big amounts, but beds and nurses are getting shoved out the door while those others get paid. Rant over! lol.
  22. Made them both a little big Chris for under the float, they did better casting out. I did forget to add one other "morning" fish I squeezed in for crappies. So I guess it was two full days and three half days. On that other day I did take a skunk. Was trying a new waterbody from the float tube, caught OOS bass, bluegills and one crappie. That crappie I lost tube-side though... so I took a skunk on the intended species. This year I've had a few misses for sure. Everyday logged since 2002. It's absolutely ridiculous my friend. Joey, they're quite easy in the spring. Locate them and it's usually a slay, and usually they're easy enough to find. Stick with the walleye if you have to choose. lol.
  23. Pulling off ticks and answering questions to the tune of about half a dozen to a dozen patients per day in one of the rural ER's I work in. It's quite annoying really... and per person per visit that's also an average of about $300-400 billed to the tax payer. Yes Lyme would suck... The percentages of getting it, quite low. Go into the bush nowadays, come out, check for ticks. Find tick under 24 hours, remove, destroy, and go to the doctor if you come down with fever and/or headache, or bullseye rash. Over 24 hours and tick engorged, go to the doctor for prophylaxis.
  24. They're fun and tasty yes It's all rather crappie and I get it. When the float drops, the crank stops or the jig pops over and over and over again, one can't help but grin. For some years reading about spring online crappie reports from a place in the north, I'd honestly sit and wonder what the big deal is..? These are panfish eh? They are panfish. Only Freakin' PANFISH And yet to a serious some who love 'em, they're worth going to war over. Well, I myself wouldn't ever call in poop troops for craps but... I would call some friends aboard to enjoy 'em. During spring I'd say crappie fishing is pretty well the southerner's equivalent to the northerner's walleye. If given the choice, personally I'd rather peg 10 to 50 bigger walleye over double that in 20 to 100 craps any day, but when you can't get that kinda local gold action, the craps really do make for a pleasurable alternative. Before the first trip out on this 2015 softwater, while at the bench tying laker jigs, the fingers got excited enough to spin a couple patterns liked for craps. After doing that, there was now a really good reason to get out the ultralight set-ups and wet the boat. Early season around here; this year like recent others, I took a couple full days and a couple short afternoons to pound on a couple hundred of these prolific pannies. It was easy-peasy and quite the joy for myself and friends. That's what crappies are about ... And being on the water in May fishing anything really, that's hard to beat too. New greenery at it's finest. 400 year old crappie eater. Threesome of slitherin' love. Rusty Craw & Oh Canada. First outing afternoon warm-up. Slay day with my old hockey and highschool friend Paul. Salmon Simon up from the south for a cold front hot bite. Now with laker lakes opening up, gar still in mid swing, maybe a little bass and skis come their openers and some big summer work and fishing vacations to prepare for, a plan is to take on those other things and put the crappies to rest ti'll next year. Much more fishing to come, always is. Enjoy your season. Bunk.
  25. That was different! And wicked at the same time. Great shad for the lad.
