Funny ya bring this up today Doug for the past couple nights I've been storing destinations in my "favorites" for Ontario Pike, Brookies and Arctic Char (all separately) but was thinking I need a laker section for way down the road. Bumped into a few good different spots for ya, and already am aware of some others. Neultin Lake Selwyn Lake Plummer's Great Slave and Great Bear Kasba Lake Kluane Lake Athabasca Lake Anyone of them and you'd be fishing world class waters all with world class lodges. Except Athabasca, not sure...? As for Ontario.... outside of some of the Great Lakes and Nipigon.... well, I haven't really researched it. Lac Seul may have opps with all inclusive. Big Trout Lake I remember has an outfitter with an all inclusive package, and surely some great remote laker fishing, but, trying to find the website again just last night after seeing it a year or so ago, well, I couldn't. I think Nipigon for June would be prime. If considering that lake I have a link I'll pm you for something interesting to consider.

Pretty much the dumbest poll, as in all of sport; not just hockey, the Montreal Canadiens are the greatest dynasty of any sports team with more cups/trophies and final round wins than anyone. Ignore that, you ingnore fact, which makes you ignorant.

FISH ON!!! and, The Ol Diamond Back Sturgeon by Primus, just because of the lyrics. That "I'm Going Fishing All the of the time and my baby's going fishing too," song at the intro of "Going Fishing," but then, at the end of the same show they have that different "Going Fishing" song. On any given day either one will be humming in my head as I'm touring up river in the boat. lol Travelling Riverside Blues by Zeppelin is likely my longest running and favorite going fishing song. At the same time, whenever I hear it it reminds me of taking off in a plane on the runway at the airport in Moosonee.

Bren usually manages meals such as pasta, meatloaf, stirfry and such. I handle the meat, fish and potatoes. In the end, it's a pretty even split. We're both shiftworkers.

The bright side of having a kidney stone is, if the wife ever uses that old "well I went through childbirth.. etc... you don't know what pain is" line in a fight, you really do have the right to tell her to get lost. lol. I worked a urology floor a few times... one of the few places RN's actually just carry morphine around in their pockets.

So you marinate it to the color, texture and taste you want. lol. If it's good enough for Capn' Highliner to vaccuum pack, freeze and send all the way to us high society folk here in the Moose, well, it's good enough for you. lol. EAT IT.

Bumper to bumper out there I tell ya. School kids in one chopper going back and forth, hospital patients and employees in another. Air ambluance buzzing around too. Commercial planes Air Creebec and Thunder Air taking business folk, vacationers, and people south for Xmas shopping. De Beers privately flying their people and supplies back and forth from the Victor Project. The skies can get hectic..... but at least were above the heavy Moosonee/Moose Factory smog. How's the drive on the 401 these days. Worked nights, so, pic is leaving Moosonee at 8am to head home to the island. Lots of ice down there. Not soooo much ice in the main channel, collector lanes were jammed tight though. Island ponds are solidifying. Scenery on the trip was OK I guess. traffic was bad. Strangely, the sun on this trip was in my eyes no matter if I looked east, west or south. The ride was a nerve-racking, sky-raging, gonna-be-late push to get home that took about 5 minutes, and it really was wierd to me that the suns position was where it was in some of my photos. Coming down to earth we managed to find a parking spot. Had to parallel park it between all the other vehicles. The pilot flipped some idiot the bird when the guy tried to cut into our spot. Even though I laughed about that, the morning commute can really be hard some days.

That my lad was a special kind of report. Helping Gramps land "his" first bow...... awesome. Feel good report, great fish, congrats.

Luckily sturgeon, sockeye, chinooks, pinks, cohos, bows, dolly varden, cutthroat, sailfish, marlin, mahi mahi, wahoo, roosterfish, grouper, yellowfin, bonitos, permit, jacks, mackerel, needlefish, lake trout and maybe even a brown trout all are possible in the coming year. The usual pike and eyes are a good bet as well. What I really want is a brookie over 5 lbs and an arctic char. Wouldn't say no to a first muskie though.

Great day for sure man. And some eater size too, that's uncommon I'm told. lol.

Sharp spines down the backs of these fish, especially the smaller ones. Use a glove or towel if handy, and tail it. If it's a big fish, once tailed roll it over in the water belly up then stick your hand right in it's mouth. Log roll it into your arms and into the boat. Keep it subdued and don't let it thrash about in the boat so to hurt itself.

Here's a story behind the fish. The guide is definetely "FishWhisperer" Asger Michaelsen with his 11 ft. trophy sturgeon On Nov.16, 2006, we have hooked, landed, tagged and carefully released one of the largest sturgeon EVER caught in the Fraser River. In our last fishing report, we mentioned a group of die-hard sturgeon fishermen from our tour operator in Denmark, Atlantik Travel www.atlantiktravel.com This group - on their last day - wrote a piece of fishing history... When the group arrived from Denmark last week, we were approached by the group leader and asked for a very patient guide, as 3 anglers in their group could neither hear nor speak. I replied to him, that all our guides are patient, as fishing is not a job, but a lifestyle for them. He looked around at all the guides present and into the room walked Kevin, a guide of few words. His nickname is "The Fishwhisperer" (thanks for the name, Carolyn Hansen). I said "here is your guide, the 3 of you don`t talk, Kevin doesn`t either - perfect". They hugged and up they went. I`ve learned, that, after every sturgeon they`ve landed, it was "hugging time" - approx. 20 times per day average. This was their way of saying "thank you". All guides, John, Steve and Kerry, did exceptionally well, landing lots of fish and lots of big fish, but the biggest smile was mostly with "Asger Michaelsen", "Jornaa Pedersen" and "Bjarne Toft Loholt". It was in the afternoon, as Kevin called me on my speaker phone: "we just hooked a big one" ... "OK", I replied, "how big?" ... "big..." (remember, a man of few words). That`s as much information as I could get out of him. Knowing Kevin, I knew, that`s a serious fish. Almost 3 hours later, Kevin called again with the stunning news; The Sturgeon has a total length of 329 cm or less than a fingertip short of 11 ft. with a girth of 136 cm, that`s over 4.5 ft. around. We estimate the fish at 120 years old with a realistic weight of 750 to 800 lbs. The sturgeon was measured, tagged, photos taken and released carefully and unharmed. The fish was hooked and fought by "Asger Michaelsen" for 2 hours and 53 minutes - all by himself without any help. Asger is a strong man, but this fish took his toll on him.
