These days 3/8 inch plywood is used on most new house roofs GTA and south Ont which is down from 1/2 inch to save costs. Thinner plywood does not hold the shingle nail as well as 1/2 inch. I don't think anybody uses particle board on roofs but OSB is being used on new house roofs across Canada. The OSB used on roof is heavier around 1/2 to 5/8 inch thick and should hold the nail ok unless it gets wet through. Patch your roof the best you can and look at replacing it with steel or better quality shingles in the warmer weather. When the roof leaks the house deteriorates quickly.

Put on a steel roof and you never have to worry about the roof again. I did my 1200 sq foot cottage roof with sheet steel myself with help for less than $3K.

Wynne just announced a 4.3 cent a litre tax increase in gas and $5 more per month for natural gas home heating. This looks like a tax grab disguised to reduce green house emissions.

Got a HTC 601 phone from Bell almost 2 years ago for $50 extra and it has been good. The picture quality and videos are great. Could use more than 8 gigabytes in it.

If you get a nylon tent make sure the rain fly completely covers the tent, set it up in the back yard, spray the fly top and all seams with silicon water proofing.

I bought a 2016 Grand Caravan low in your price range. It can tow up to 3500 lbs, good enough for my boat. It has lots of room inside for gear. After 2016 the Grand Caravan will be discontinued. I find many of the SUVs too bulky and small inside.

We are talking about the bridge here, are you changing the topic?

Bridge engineered in Spain and expansion joints made in China. When you go cheap you pay twice. It should have all been done in Canada, we need the jobs.

A friend died a month ago from lung cancer after smoking for many years. He suffered greatly at the end. It is not worth it!

Turning 65 in 2016 - does one need to renew their license?

I was not born in Canada but have lived here most of my life. The birth certificate I have is paper and not in English so that will not work as age ID. -
Turning 65 in 2016 - does one need to renew their license?

I turn 65 in March of 2016 and will not renew my fishing licence. Weather is too warm for ice fishing this year. What kind of government issued ID should I carry in my fishing box that will not get wet? I have an old expired drivers licence and wonder if that will do as ID. I usually don't carry my wallet with me while fishing in case it gets wet or lost. -
If you have a "seasonal" place the hydro rate is on peak all the time even with a smart meter. They apply a formula to my bill to wipe out any savings on off or mid peak times. My "seasonal" place is located among residential properties and Hydro One will not give me residential rates unless I prove to them I live there. Another rip off!

Metal roof last a long time and is the way to go. Snow will slide off a metal roof but put catch clips over doorways. Shingles don't last in harsh weather conditions and are a pain to remove / get rid of when they go bad.

Great job and material lift! I can see from your work you are a pro at construction. Question: Why are you using OSB or aspenite sheathing on the roof when half inch plywood is used on most new house roofs?

Many of CN tracks are very busy and the trains are now 100 cars or longer. With the increased rail traffic it looks like derailments will continue to happen.

I wonder how many people out there think that they are insured went they are not!

Insurance companies are in the business to make money not spend it.

I have not used real sauna soap for a long time but remember it. My parents use a birch vasta in the sauna but I did not care for it. Nothing like a cold swim after a hot sauna, even in January. Make sure your ticker is still good before trying this. A Sauna is a great way to relax and keep clean up at the cottage or anywhere you can have one.
-
Being a Fin, I have had both wood and electric sauna stoves. Electric is slow, does not heat up as hot and is hard on your electric bill. It is also hard to find an electric stove that you can safely put water on the rocks. If you can't put water on the rocks then it is not a sauna. You can regulate the heat with a wood stove by the amount and type of wood you put in, also by the air draft. Wood stove is the way to go and get a hot water tank attachment.

Leafs need to get rid of the foreign players who are just here for the money and bring in good local Canadian players who want to play with heart and pride.

I have had 2 Caravans since 1998. Got 330K out of the first one and presently have 246K on my 2006 model. I did the regular maintenance and have had no engine or trany problems. There have been other repairs but where reasonable considering the kms. Am looking at buy another Caravan before they are discontinued after 2016. The Honda and Toyota vans are good if you have the extra $10,000. Check out this site for more info: carcomplaints.com

There is another free launch and parking just on the north side of the Trent canal where it enters Balsam at West bay. I went there for a day in July and found the fishing tough.

West Arm for the Week - Water Levels and Weeds
16 Footer replied to BillsTheBassMan's topic in General Discussion
I was at West Arm east of 64 for a few days just after Canada Day. The water levels looked normal and the fishing was not good. The scenery was great. -
I always have a tire gauge and air pump in my van. First time you need the air pump on the road for your trailer tires or vehicle it pays for its self. All tires have the max load and air pressure ratings on the side wall near rim.

That sucks! I was looking forward to free retirement fishing in a few years.
