  1. Very cool colours. Thanks for sharing
  2. Spent entire summers there (Polish family). Lew's right about Wilno Tavern...check it out. Kaminiskeg is a great bass fishery. We also did well with lakers down rigging gang trolls with a minnow threaded on the end.
  3. Love the DIY slot bump board. Nice pics.
  4. See nothing wrong with keeping your limit and staying within it; especially on Erie. Nice haul!
  5. Looks like an awesome week with a great mixed bag. Thanks!
  6. Nice greaser. Well done.
  7. Fished the Moon on Sunday. Water was highest I've seen in years so extra caution was taken boating around. Deer flies were out in force, little buggers had an ankle feast. The fishing was on-fire: between me and my gal we caught about 30 smallmouth between 2-4lbs all through the day, average was around 3lbs albeit no nickles on this trip. Drop-shotting flukes and slammers was the ticket. Sometimes you would be reeling one in and there would be one or two smallies following with your hooked up fish, just awesome. Lots of great acrobats, hooked fish had a knack for jumping and spitting the hook which was fine with me as we were pure C&R. We trolled muskies for a bit catching 4 northerns. All was had in the main basin around islands. Just use the grip to weigh and measure (this smallie was a hair under 3lbs and 18inches - about the average for the day) or on-hook unruly northerns in the net.
  8. My folks live on the lake and I fish it at least once-twice a month. There are big bass in Canal. Both smallies and largemouth. The pike population cooled off a bit from years before. Walleye are pretty much non-existent; I've caught maybe 5 the past ten years. It's a shallow lake so the best fishing is on overcast days; bright blue-bird skies like we had this past long weekend the fish will be buried in the weeds hiding from the sun. It's an awesome lake if you're bringing kids for pan fish as they are everywhere and non-stop action with a simple worm under a float.
  9. In the fall I find the pike are usually moving back inshore. That said, that's still a tonne of water to explore. I'm sure there would be some big gators out in the main bay chasing bait balls. Trolling for them is the only way I found to have consistent bite on the moon (consistent used loosely as anyone who fishes the moon would know). I've caught a few hammer-handles fishing pencil reads for largies in less than 5 fow. The big ones I've only got trolling. Muskies, well, good luck to you. They are far and few in between but when you get one its usually a fatty that'll make your knees weak. Looking to get out there this weekend should everything pan out! Can't wait.
  10. Harder to target in the summer as they disperse into heavier and deeper weeds. In the summer my go-to crappie bait is a jointed rapala minnow J05 in either fire tiger or yellow perch pattern. Slow retrieve over 5-8 foot weed in 10-14 fow. Light action rod with a lot of give so you don't come up with nothing but lips on the hook set lol.
  11. ^^^^^Akri right about this one^^^^ With respect to Muskies and Pike I've had most success in the park trolling large in-line mariboos in orange and black.
  12. I find nothing wrong with the YUM brand. They catch fish and I find go on sale more than the other leading brands.
  13. On Balsam yamasenkos (I use a version made by YUM brands called the "dinger") is the ticket for bass; rigged whacky. Also do well with a white or chartreuse spinner bait as my search lure.
  14. Tragic. Condolences to the families.
  15. Musky, amongst other fish available in most aquatic systems, are generally low density fish in terms of population. When one goes belly up it puts a more considerable dent in the native population than a more abundant species in the same system. Down the road there's one less fish in a handful that has a chance to breed. Increasing loss of breeding areas, later spawn season and competition with other yearlings in the same spawning areas results in low yield returns when in comes to reproducing muskies naturally in a system. On my "home" lake in the Kawartha's which has been overrun by pike the last two decades they've become even more rare. I'm catching more tigers, but they cannot re-produce. Kudos to organizations like Muskies Inc. that teach best practices in angling and handling, habitat restoration and stocking programs...at the very least they take the time to get the message out there. That said, even to the most experienced angler, they go belly up. Even to the un-experienced angler, maybe fighting one accidently caught on their panfish setup will lead them to read more and learn about their fragility. All in all, we're on a better trajectory now in conservation than there has been in the past. Don't see folks taking photos with a shoreline lined with 30 muskies like they used to. Hell, nothings perfect but we're going the right way IMHO.
  16. Welcome aboard. Seems like I'm always buying replacement drop-shot weights lol. I'll give your site a look. Thanks!
  17. Agree with the follow-up senko. That said, the techniques mentioned are mostly for fishing bass with top-water frogs. OP said the first fish was a pickerel (walleye). Garnet is right, above, they'll hesitate to chomp the bait. The hooks on frogs are pointed upward to make the bait weedless as possible; and the fish has to engulf the bait to get a decent hook set. Try a top water bait that has trebles like a zara spook, chug bug, etc. If it is a pack of pickerel smashing surface bait you'll have better chances of hooking into one.
  18. Smallmouth Bass, I've only caught...nothing of considerable size maybe 2lbs at most. It's been stocked with Lake Trout as well but never targeted them.
  19. They were off the beds on canal this weekend. Lots of gills and perch searching those beds for leftovers.
  20. Fish online map is a good place to start https://www.gisapplication.lrc.gov.on.ca/FishONLine/Index.html?locale=en-US&site=FishONLine&viewer=FishONLine Fox Lake, Huntsville: Black Crappie, Cisco, Bullheads, Large and Small mouth bass, Pike, Walleye, various pannies. Good mixed bag lake.
  21. Jig and minnow. Was there in the fall last, I'm primarily fishing for muskies tho, water was pretty high. If you can find current and new weeds you're golden.
  22. 1-877-847-7667 Ontario MNR Tip Line
  23. Anyone fish the area recently can tell me where the lakers are holding? Headed up this weekend...high waters, rain, late ice-off and cold temps have me guessing.
  24. It's been some years but I used to fish Baptiste quite a bit. Live frogs, even frog imitations worked well on bass.
  25. These guys and The Animals are the only two CDs I need in the boat.
