I felt that way for 10 or more years now... half the time he sounded like he was boozin'

nice bows. I have the same reel and like it a lot, especially the weight and price. should hooked that minnow on right under the dorsal.... seriously!
-
not sure about the suction cup except they don't hold for long, but the 170 model(dual beam, more res) is a big step up from the 160 and BPS has em for ~$119

Nice ones Rich! We are on our way back there this weekend. Good to see you got into numbers. We've only managed one per trip so far. See any big gar's around?

The Saugeen isn't Georgian Bay, but yes it and Geo Bay are closed for pike.

Lake, river or stream and how far do you want to drive? Haliburton and Bancroft areas have stocked public lakes with readily available lists online. As for rivers or streams in Southern Ontario, good luck finding anyone willing to divulge that.

wasn't directing that at you folks more just a general statement with it being that time of year, and already having had the pleasurable experience.

[quote name='solopaddler' date='01 April 2010 - 10:44 AM' Seeing the action, Dave, wiley dog that he is, slipped downstream and was soon into one as well: When done in a run it is referred to as "low-holing" and a very big no-no, actually grounds for an unexpected dip. nice fish, nice reels, great day! I'll leave the beers for you.

mostly referred to as "plunking", canadadude has got it down. I get about as much excitement outta that as watching leaves change colour in the fall. Though some days those guys are the only ones catching fish! Sponge attractors, corkies and other buoyant materials also work well infront of the roe bag, rather than foam pcs in it. Fish key in on the scent rather than the sight and that's why it's a good method in dirty water. Don't chuck into the waves of the outflow but beside them instead. The fish cruise in and out of the river flow looking for food before they head upstream into the river.

It never closes on my favourite river, except for Lakers.

Welcome! The Hammer is a prime spot to live if you want a short commutes to catch the species you've named.

Used to wrap em in pink mesh just like tying roe and put a corkie infront of them for bottom bouncing the Niagara. Smaller raw shrimp.

Had to make this post just to see where mine went.

Either bring an experienced person who has navigated the lower or take a guided trip first. Launch at Queenston and stay on the Canuck side unless you have a US license too. The dams have been pumping mud for the past few days and the ice pack below the falls has or probably will let go shortly. It's all vertical drift fishing, unless you are experienced enough to backtroll. Big thing to not do is run through the drifts to reposition yourself. Just pull out of the drift and motor back upstream, then drop back in on it. The upper or Port D are probably a better options right now. Good luck!

determine what is the type of water you will fish the most and make your decision based on that. I would go with a Sit-On-Top, regardless of what conditions you may be fishing in. Sit-In-Kayaks are too confining, difficult to rig, harder to get in-out of and your legs are touching the hull that is the same temp as the water. Here's a bit of a guideline; 10-13' kayaks for small rivers/reservoirs/inland lakes 13-16' for large rivers/inland lakes and the Great lakes I personally wouldn't go with a boat shorter than 12' because they don't track very well. All the kayak dealers will be having spring demo days in the coming months, including Swift. Like everyone said, "try before you buy".

if you google Streamside Fishing Products; the guys name is George and he's a wholesaler in Grand Bend that should be able to point you to a dealer in your area, if there is one. good luck
-
You can get a pretty nice Streamside(sliding rings) for not much more than that Convergence, and very big upgrade. Just not sure if you can in Ottawa.

wow, I was sad when it ended!! puts a whole new spin on rodents.

Here's Kincardine's harbourcam - http://www.pilor.com/ ice should move out any day and the lake is wide open. Not sure how it relates to TO/Lake O harbours but with these warm temps, I'm thinking next week you should be able to start getting out in some spots. Good luck and let us know if you get out.

I'd be inclined to make it that birds Swan Song.

I agree!! You wouldn't know if you read any of the US media propaganda right now.

for pike; in perch, yellow/red and black/orange patterns if possible.
-
I'd be interested in some bucktail or marabou spinners, if someone is making them?
-
I'd like my chances better on Simcoe...

Things up your way have been smokin lately from what I've been hearing.
