  1. Trying to get some trout ice fishing in before we lose the ice for the year. Other than Simcoe Lake Trout, what lakes contain either Brook or Lake Trout that offer ice fishing. I checked the MNR on line fishing, but sometimes those lists fish that arent actually in the lake.
  2. Seems like they weren't aware of the ice or the water body. Such a loss of young life. http://www.durhamregion.com/news-story/7146232-update-lindsay-teen-16-dies-after-snowmobile-plunges-into-open-water-on-lake-scugog/
  3. Not good word for Hales, given his bombardier went through the ice recently as well.
  4. I havent been to Pigeon so I cant confirm its thickness but I have been to Simcoe which is a much larger body of water and Ive been out to 30FOW and its over 12" thick everywhere Ive been.
  5. you know whats weird is I called humminbird Canada customer service and the guy on the phone had no idea. He didnt know that the transducer wouldn't work, and he certainly didnt have a work around. Its like he knew nothing about their products.
  6. Wow thanks for the reply. I couldn't get it to exit sim mode on the lake but now I'm home it will. I will have to try again to make sure 100%. I noticed it only had 2 pins not 3.
  7. If you goto nipissing don't book with bear Creek lodges. That's where I went and their huts are not on fish. I'd book with probably anyone else there.
  8. Awesome. Anyone know of its online. Do t have wfn
  9. All of the kawarthas are pan fish only. And pike if the lake has it.
  10. Bought a portable Humminbird Piranhamax 197c. I also bought the only ice transducer Humminbird makes, the XI 9 20 which is 200/83khz. The unit is dual beam at 200/455khz, so Im guessing that is where the issue is. The problem is Humminbird dont make a transducer with 200/455khz. They make an ice ducer for their ICE models which is 455/240khz which I imagine wouldnt work either. I guess my question is how can I get this to work if at all. And if it doesnt, why on earth would they make a portable unit not capable for ice fishing.
  11. The slot is pretty substantial too. I believe its a low percent of fish even fall above the limit. I spent 3 days on Nippissing (calander bay) and caught 1 fish, lots of guys I went with caught zero. We were out with a ice hut company. I went with 16 people and I think in total out of 16 people we caught 8 fish over 3 days. I also went when North Bay had the cold snap of -20 for 3 days. Edit:Where I was, Calendar Bay, was about 3 hours exactly, and I live north of Mississauaga, so it would probably be around 3.5-4 hour drive. Thats a lot of driving for one day of fishing. There are a ton of lakes with operators a lot closer. Go to Simcoe for perch or trout with an operator.
  12. I went out about 1.5km from Rayner in Cooks Bay. Lots of snow, made it hard to walk. Ice was solid black where I stopped, and about 12" thick.
  13. Im going to Simcoe this Sunday. Somewhere on Cooks Bay. I dont mind being shown new things. Ill be on foot.
  14. Sorry to sort of bring this back up. Has anyone had experience with Polar Kraft? I hadnt heard of the brand until looking for boats. I found a nice in the used market for a reasonable price, but have having not heard of the boat makes me uneasy.
  15. The hut next to us caught zero, and the hut next to them caught zero. Pretty sure it was the spot. We atleast caught fish. The guy who brought us out even said the fishing was slow that day and they were moving the huts a considerable distance south of where we were. But if it matters, we were using 6lb fluro, #6 mosquito hooks, and between 1/16th and 1/8th jigs. Live bait. ML rods.
  16. Do you know how deep you were?
  17. The sport limit is 44" which is big for Kawarthas. Most are under 40", so You'd be in the same situation.
  18. A friend of mine brought this up when we were ice fishing, as I bought a conservation license this year since i'm basically 100% C&R fishing and have no use for sport license for possession limits. He mentioned that you need a sport license to target muskie as the C&R limit is zero. It seems the regulations arent super clear, but it does say this: https://www.ontario.ca/page/fishing-limits-size-restrictions-and-catch-and-release#section-7 Thoughts?
  19. 60 Perch is a slow day? Wow....Kind of wish my trip out with him had 60 fish (or half that, or even a third that). Feel like my trip with Tim was almost a different body of water.
  20. I just checked a small lake in my area. The MNR site says there's rainbow trout in it? I really doubt there's trout in a small lake near where I live. The lake isnt connected to any rivers, and isnt very big.
  21. Wasnt me. I saw this on another forum. I was out with a operator near this one though.
  22. Wont mention the operator (its a popular one), but their Bombardier went through the ice on the weekend. Lake Simcoe still not super safe.
  23. Wasnt very good last year, think I was in and out in about an hour. Doesnt really compare to the sportsman show in March.
  24. what website do you guys browse for used boats? boat dealers? trader?
