Well, unless you enjoy being out there in the cold and the dark...the season is done. As my faithful fishing partner looked on, I closed up the season with a skunk... At least last night I managed a little crappie, but Monday night made up for it with this 27" fat pig... The dock is looking pretty lonely, guess it's time to pull it for the winter... Bring on the ice!

Well I only have about 5' of water as far as I can throw from my dock on Buckhorn and seem to get a steady stream of perch and small bass throughout the fall, the warmer the day, the better the bite seems to be. Even got a few pickerel in the evenings, including the fat pig in this link just the other night. I would think if you're hoping for a musky, fishing through dusk into the dark with a big, slow bait might do the trick, especially if it's been a warmer than usual day.

I've spent most evenings for an hour or two on the dock this fall, most nights getting a small bass or two and some perch. There's been the odd pickerel in the mix but some have been just over our keepable slot at 20" or 21" and most under or barely legal at 14", all have swum another day. Today I made sure I got home abit early, with the cold front due to come in this afternoon some time. It was raining pretty good but still quite warm when I got set-up, the fish were active with a few small little bass right off the hop. I was about to pack it in as the rain got abit heavier and my beer was empty, so I started to pull my minnow in when I got a good hit...I knew right away it had some weight...barely fit in my net... Measured at 27" and maybe the fattest pickerel I've ever caught. This of course called for another beer and rig another minnow...15 minutes later the cold front came through. Only a few days left in the season, the weather doesn't look like it will cooperate, but I still have at least a dozen minnows to use...guess where I'll be the next few evenings. Sure would still like to get one for a meal.

Well I've persevered, pics to follow once my phone dries up...may be one of my best ever...

The storm was pretty much a bust throughout the Kawarthas, thankfully.

My wife dresses up every year for work, this year she's a clown. She makes the outfits herself. Best part is she always brings home a bag of goodies.

Apparently, Rice Lake had a bumper crop of walleye this year...

or record 2 different shows...while watching something else on your PVR.

I also highly recommend a PVR, just make sure it's at least a dual-tuner.

Very sorry for your loss, Paul. Dementia is a terrible disease, she truly is in a better place now. My own mother has been struggling with it for over 10 years and has now deteriated to the point of non-recognition of her own family, it breaks my heart everytime we visit. -
I've never owned a cell-phone, but have always had one supplied by my employer. All the way from a hard-mount car-phone in '93 up to my current BlackBerry. Best part being...I've never had a cell-phone bill.

One of the benefits of being on one of the Trent Severn lakes is fairly consistent levels all season long, usually to the detriment of the surrounding watersheds, especially in a dry year as this one was.

Thanks guys. It's generally a fruitless effort from the dock, the bay I'm in only gets about 5' deep all the way across and I'm generally too lazy to bother getting the boat out after a hard day of work. Besides, the beer tastes better on the dock, and the dog gets to play...

After many evenings of trying, I finally caught a couple pickerel from my dock tonight... One was 12", the other was 20"...how am I supposed to eat Seriously though, it was great to finally get a couple. I up-sized my minnows and it paid off. With the smaller bait I was getting a constant barrage of dinky perch, enough to drive you nuts, I moved up to 4"-5" minnows and managed a couple decent bass along with the pickerel. Not bad for a couple hours at dusk. Sorry there's no pics, didn't have a camera or phone down at the dock.

Oh my God...it's Kermit.

If you do decide on Nosbonsing, give Henry a call at Birch Hill Camp. You'll have a blast even if the fishing is slow...

This was my first ever fish through the ice on Buckhorn, from when they first opened up the winter season:

Well the weather cleared on Saturday just in time for our 5pm ceremony at the Peterborough Curling Club. Along with the clearing skies, came some pretty significant winds for a short while. While waiting at the altar for my beautiful bride, my Best Man mentions to me that he heard from our neighbour that a large tree had come down at our house shortly after the limo had picked me and my groomsmen up. My neighbour being somewhat of a joker, and my Best Man even more so, I figgered that it was some kind of "fool the groom" joke to ease the tension of the moment. I refused to believe and we all continued to eat, drink, dance and party the night away. A fabulous night was had by all. At the end of it all, Sandra and I had a romantic limo ride home to find this in our driveway: The driver earned his tip helping us with all our stuff through the tree and into the house. Thankfully, I had parked our vehicles across the road earlier in the day to allow room for the limo. Otherwise they would have been totalled. The tree came down without damaging a thing, couldn't have been dropped on purpose any better. So is this a good omen? These pics were taken yesterday morning, with the help of the guys from the neighbourhood, it was all cut and cleared by the afternoon. Lotsa campfire wood, too bad it was spruce and no good for inside burning.

I hope he didn't split the pad too bad. My dog split his pad real bad one time, I don't really know how, but it took almost six months, two re-stitchings before he could go in the water again. He missed a whole summer. He was real trooper though, put up with a fully bandaged and socked paw the whole time, never pulled at it once.

Thanks Joey, it was a consideration at one point. Good thing we thoght better of it... That's what I keep telling Sandra. You wanna take my place??

I'll be tying a knot tomorrow...but not a fishing knot.

But Google just sends you here...

Wow, lotsa real nice fish there. Congrats. Nice looking new boat as well, though you might need a bigger truck, quite the squat on that Flex...
