  1. The rice is seriously out of hand down there... Definitely catfish in the lake, used to catch tons of them as a kid from my Uncle's dock at Birch Point, just down the lake from Floods, and I've caught more than few from my own dock on Buckhorn. This was probably the biggest:
  2. My boat usually stays at the dock until mid-November, sadly mostly unused it seems these last few years unless we get a late run of nice weather. October and November will usually find me shore fishing from the dock most evenings for jumbo perch and the always hoped for, but rarely caught pickerel. Some decent catfish in the mix as well. It's really the only productive time of year on my shoreline when the heavy weeds have finally died back.
  3. Sorry to hear, it's always tough...but gets better as you remember.
  4. I hope Ralphie recovers quickly... To be honest, I'm confused to how he got injured. Did he catch his claw on somebody's pantleg while on their lap? He never seems to be on the ground long enough to hurt himself...
  5. I'm still looking for where he was specific in any way about any "hot spot". The lake itself is hardly a secret with that big Provincial Park right there and all... I can imagine the hords converging on the lake as we speak.
  6. First thing to do any fishfinder...turn the Fish ID off.
  7. Here's my rig, all loaded for a camping trip a few years ago: 2001 Dakota Sport 4x4, only has the 3.9L V6, but pulls the boat, fully loaded, without issue. It'll never be a speed demon, likes to drink gas by the gallon, but get's the job done. It's not my daily driver, I have a Civic for that.
  8. Well I'll get in on the action: My name is Jer and have been a member for longer than I can remember. I grew up in Mississauga until at the age of 27 (16 1/2 years ago), I gave my head a shake and moved to the Kawarthas. Mostly a bass fisherman but will fish for most species at times, have really been enjoying our new ice-fishing opportunities around here the last few years as well.
  9. A couple buddies and I stayed at Pine Grove for a week once, going back almost 20 years. The cottage, boat rental and facilities were all topnotch. Just the fishing was lacking, we did quite poorly. It was mid-summer and very hot and muggy for the whole week. We mostly explored down-river as far as the 522 bridge and really didn't go past Toad Lake up-stream.
  10. Personally, I'm surprised there hasn't been more response. Most here are dog lovers and this legislation is a serious afront...
  11. Are we talking the same causeway, on Chemong Lake? I know the original thread was regarding the Tiffin launch in Barrie, but I was responding to Lew's comment about Chemong. There are no signs and the spots are definitely not "vehicle/trailer sized". Most boat trailers are backed up over the parking curb onto the grass so they can fit.
  12. Hi Lew, I believe the parking at the causeway is for anybody, not specific to boat trailers. The only restriction is no overnight. There's lots of shore fisherman on the causeway every morning and they need to park as well. And definitely car-pooling, I've done it myself... If there's no parking in the lot, you can always park up Robinson Rd or Yankee Line on the wide shoulder, that's where the pros park for a tourney, sometimes as far up the road as the Foodland.
  13. As has been said, don't remove the middle bench without adding some kind of support to maintain the hull integrity. My first boat was a 16' Grumman utility that had been modified by the previous owner with decks, floor, side console, etc. The middle bench had been removed with no support added. It looked great when I bought it, but within a few years the boat was constantly taking on water. It took awhile to figure it out, but the hull was literally splitting open along the console side, right at the floor line. When I saw the extent of the damage, the crack was at least 4 feet long and I thanked my lucky stars that the boat didn't actually rip itself apart out on the lake. The boat was scrap at that point.
  14. I've been to the Oshawa store a couple times, only bought some hooks and plastic baits. Nicely laid out store and lots of selection. I was there pricing out a new Compre rod at the time. They had the same price as Le Barons at $115. I ended up buying one at Gagnons for $105.
  15. Mostly a bass & trout lake, I believe. I've caught some nice smallies there and the rockbass are monster sized.
  16. I had trouble a couple weeks ago. Wouldn't load at first, when i did get on it wouldn't show any thumbnails. I went to Photobucket, much easier all around.
  17. I've fished there a few times, Phil. Real nice lake, never seemed too busy (mind you I'm used to the traffic on Buckhorn). Most of the cottages are water access only. Did well for smallies and lotsa big rockbass. Lake trout in the lake too from what I understand though have never targeted them. Plenty big for a cottage lake with access to Mephisto and St Ola lakes as well. We launched (and camped once) at Limerick Lake Lodge (Martin's Landing), I think there is a ramp and marina in St Ola as well.
  18. So as long as it doesn't affect your particular dog, who cares? Nice attitude.
  19. I see now you were talking about the Midland by-law. Seems totally un-enforcable to me...who gets to decide if your dog might have some particular, undesirable breed mixed in?
  20. Ya...until there's an "incident", no matter how minor...then the "no tolerance" of the nanny state kicks in.
  21. Jer

    HEAT WAVE

Time for dip in the lake...
  22. Geez, now your scaring me...I drive a Civic.
  23. Ya, I have one now: BSL still pisses me off...
  24. Its a brutal law and I have some personal experience. Years ago, shortly after the legislation was passed, we were looking after my girlfriend's daughter's dog for a week or two. Paco was "pitbull" kinda looking dog, a mutt really. Anyways, one day while I was at work, the younger boys were playing with Paco and our dog, Bear, down in the water. I'd warned them to keep a close eye on him and not let him wander, not because I was worried he was dangerous, but I knew of the legislation and wanted no issues. Anyways, as 14 year-olds are prone to do, they didn't pay enough attention and Paco ended up out front of the house when the neighbourhood busy-body happened to be walking by. Apparently he jumped up at her (probably looking for a pet) and she went home and called the cops reporting a pit-bull attack. Absolutely no bites or marks besides maybe a paw print on her pants. Two weeks later, well after Paco had gone home, we got a visit from the OSPCA with ticket book in hand. $2000 in fines (at least 3 different charges all regarding a restricted breed) and a death warrant for the dog, only on the say-so of the neighbour. The OSPCA had never even seen Paco (and never did), nevermind determine if he actually was a pit-bull. It was a heart-breaking situation, we tried, but had no luck in placing him with a rescue organization and Rachel couldn't bear keeping him under the even stricter restrictions he was placed under in the short term. So a healthy, friendly young dog had to meet his maker well before his time, all because he might have been a pit-bull. To be honest, he probably was but why should that really matter, the poor bugger never hurt a fly. Here he is all mean looking waiting for a cookie with my dog Bear: Just as a contrast, Bear who was a much bigger, more powerful animal in all respects, had pretty much free reign throughout our little nieghbourhood for more than 12 years without issue, thank god he didn't look like a pit-bull...
  25. I blame Google Earth. I find even myself always checking out the lakes people mention and report about, not necessarily because I want to go there, but just out of general curiousity and sometimes to get a better feel for the report itself. The point being, the technology is there and people are going to use it.
