  1. What is the weight on these? From what I've been told, those big blades require a good amount of weight if you want to fish them any deeper than 6"
  2. If it's just a tinny, fill it up with water in your driveway.
  3. Check out the tackle tour review. Also check the forums there for user reviews. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwapluton.html
  4. While gear ratio can give you a general idea of the speed of the reel, the actual IPT (Inches Per handle Turn) can vary greatly in any given ratio. This is because of spool size. I have 5:1 reels that bring in anywhere between 20" and 24" of line per turn. Even though it is a 5:1 ratio reel, 24" is too much for me when retrieving deep diving cranks. This is something to take into consideration when looking for application-specific reels.
  5. What you order depends on if you're charged duty/taxes. If you order a Loomis or St. Croix rod or something that is made in the states, there is no duty. Falls under NAFTA. Last week I ordered $350 worth of stuff (Chronarch D7 and some Lucky Craft jerks, all made in Japan) and got an email from customer service the next day asking me to authorize an additional $30 for duties/taxes. I was told BPS uses Russell A. Farrow Ltd for brokerage across the boarder. My visa wasn't charged until I authorized the additional charges. I'm pretty sure this is only for items that are either made or assembled in the North America.
  6. Thanks everyone for all the replies, hoping to hit a 20+ this weekend! We're not in the derby, just out fishing for fun!
  7. Here's some pics from our trip to Dunnville on Friday. Fish ON! First fish of the day. A healthy 12lb cat Another 12lbr They just keep getting bigger... 15lbs ...and bigger... 18lbs and finally 18lbs 4oz
  8. Why not try the new Abu Revo Toro? Comes in both 50 and 60 sizes as well as low and high speed versions for each size. It Comes with a power handle as an accessory. I don't fish musky but I've put it up against a couple big cats this year and it has been a pleasure. It casts really well, especially given it has a synchronized level-wind. An added plus is when you're done casting and want to troll, it has a line-out alarm. I got mine off the auction site for just over $200 to my door.
  9. Actually, all you have to do is click on the Last Post date ie. "Today, 3:30 PM"
  10. If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, click the scroll wheel for links. It will open them in a new tab. If you're on a laptop with a touchpad, ctrl+click the link and it will open in a new tab. If you're deadset on a new window shift+click a link.
  11. I generally don't use snap-swivles because it's just another possible point of failure. Exceptions to this are spoons and spinnerbaits. Some lures like jerkbaits and topwaters don't achieve the correct action when not tied directly to the line. All my brait-lure connections are made with a palamar knot.
  12. Where are companies like Shimano and Daiwa while this is happening? They should be putting some money from the the billion dollar sport fishing industry into lobbying and such.
  13. If you're adding a leaf, you will also have to crank your tbars a bit to level it out unless you like the look of a forward-rake
  14. What do you need to know that isn't in the manual that came with the reel?
  15. I use the double sided worm binder from BPS. Currently I have about 40 bags of plastics stored in it, which required buying extra bags(it comes with 20.) Personally I like to be organized, and this does the trick. I keep mostly senkos/worms on one side, with dropshot, tubes and creatures on the other side.
  16. I haven't got to use the rod yet, but it's already my fav. I picked up a 6'8 G.Loomis BCR803 (12-16lb 3/16-5/8oz) at the Spring Fishing Show (Thanks Vince!) and paired it with a trusty Chronarch 50MG. Total weight of the outfit is 9oz.
  17. How are the conditions looking for the weekend? Any fresh pow?
  18. I would recommend against paying with instant bank transfer via PayPal. If you do get scammed, and PayPal doesn't rule in your favor you have no recourse. If you pay through PayPal with a credit card, you can always do a charge-back and let your credit card company handle the dispute. If you are linking your bank account to your PayPal account you'll need to have your banking info (transit, branch, and account numbers.)
  19. This is what I use, it may not satisfy your needs coming from WinFax PRO. SR Fax
  20. I use ibycus topo because it's free and works with my garmin software and handheld. I find it pretty accurate, at least enough for light hiking. http://www.ibycus.com/ibycustopo/
  21. Your insurance company should have a preferred shop close to you. Mine was CarStar and they did a fantastic job on my truck. I was a bit wary of some of the plastic parts the insurance company made them paint instead of replace but everything came out really good. CarStar also has a lifetime nation-wide warranty.
  22. Where is good access around the 407? I have only ever accessed off Hwy 5.
  23. There's one at the Jordan Harbor launch
  24. I like my Garmin GPSMAP 60Cx. I can't remember how much I paid for it but I don't remember it being too expensive. The great thing about Garmin maps is the mapsource software for the computer. it lets you view the maps and is great for doing research/planning before heading out on the water or trail. You can create waypoints on the computer and upload them to the unit, as well as tracks and routes. I use the latest Bluechart maps for the more popular bodies of water (great lakes/trent system), and the Canada Inland Lakes — Ontario maps for smaller bodies like cottage country and the haliburtons. If you know where to look, maps are free.
