Anyone else here affected by a power outage? Seems great portions of southwestern Ontario have no power. Here's a link to current outages. Damn wind! http://www.hydroonenetworks.com/en/about/o...s/south_map.asp Rick

Stan: If you have not booked already you may be too late. All the good spots will already be booked unless there is a short notice cancellation. Most places with good service book early and if you can book a week-end on short notice it's because of a last minute cancellation or lack of return customers. Mid-week openings should be available. Best Wishes: Rick

If I don't pass the test, can I try again? The test can be written as often as required, although it is strongly recommended that a course be taken if you are unsuccessful the first time. The test can be written only once in every 24-hour period. This was cut & pasted from the Transport Canada site. http://www.tc.gc.ca/marinesafety/debs/obs/...eratorfaq.htm#v Not saying how well it's enforced. Also other good info at the site. Best Wishes: Rick

The safe boating guide has all the info you need to pass. As for write until you pass this is illegal. You can only write once in 24 hrs. Some of these companies have had their privilege to issue cards removed. I personally challenged(took) the test though the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron's at the London Boating & Outdoors Show. If I remember correctly it was $30. I read over the boating Guide before the test and aced the test. The C.P.S. test has about 13 extra questions but these also qualify you to operate in the US waters. If you fail another $30 and at least 24 hrs later. You must sign a statement that you have not wrote a test anywhere in the last 24 hrs. The one test in 24 hrs is part of the federal law requiring the Pleasure craft Operators Card. At any place offering write until you pass, I would be worried that the government may rule the card void due to the illegal issuing of them, even if you passed the first time as the issuer is not obviously recording the other failures. What was everyone's "Catch Of The Year"?
Woodsman replied to profisher25's topic in General Discussion
Mine would be my most unexpected catch. I was fishing a local hole known for rock bass & sunfish using an ultralight set-up & 2 lb test line. The result was this 19 1/2" smallmouth. On 2 lb test it was quite a fight. Best Wishes: Rick -
Leechman: I believe it's called AZN Trojan. Rick

Just heard on the CBC news at noon that there is a new virus that has the capability to steal all your passwords. Affects Microsoft IE and Netscape. Microsoft is working on an emergency patch but in the meantime it is recommended that you use other browsers such as Firefox. This virus can bypass protection from your anti-virus/firewall software. As you move from site to site it records your passwords. Thought to be used for creating bootleg games but can also capture your banking info (ect.) if done online. Be Careful: Rick

Deodorant & lots of it. Things can get quite gamey in a hut full of guys with no showers available.

I generally fish alone and mostly practice catch & release. Or should I say catch, picture and release. A tripod that will raise your camera 4'-5' up will do in almost all cases. This leaves you the option to shoot above the tall grasses/weeds on river banks but to shorten up the height when needed. Also allows you to adjust for uneven ground. The small tripods that only raise 6"-12" require a raised platform to sit on. They are also not that stable on a boat with the smaller base that they have. Clamp on tripods can work on boats. When fishing alone set up your camera & tripod and take a test picture(digital camera) with you in it. Check to see if you are in the frame the way you want. If yes remember where you were standing/sitting. If not repeat until your happy with the results. After catching a fish is not the time to set up your shot if you plan to release the fish. Garage sales, second hand stores or pawn shops may have bargains on tripods. Best Wishes: Rick

Most stores won't carry parts in stock. They can order them in. If they have to come out of the US warehouse you can expect up to 3 weeks delivery time. What year is your 25 Merc? Rick

Try your local NAPA/UAP auto parts store. Ask to see their marine parts catalogue. If they don't have one let me know & I should be able to give you some part #'s. My local store gave me their recently outdated catalogue. Most #'s don't change. Rick

Two young boys went into a drug store & searched around for what they were looking for. Finally they found it and approached the counter placing it on the counter for the druggist. It was a box of tampons. Druggist: Son how old are you? Boy: 8 sir. Druggist: Son do you know what these are used for? Boy: No but their not for me there for my brother. He's 4 years old. We seen on TV if you use them you can swim & ride a bike. Right now he can't do either.

Looks like I can make it. The course was postponed. See you all tonight:Rick -
The 1002 indicates 1 1/2 hp, 1970 the last year my manual covers. Rick

If you can post the model # (not serial #) I can look up the year and hp. This should be on the plate in your 3rd photo. My repair manual does not list any 2 hp Evinrude motors back in those years. Best Wishes: Rick

This post was prompted by a PM on another board & a couple of people showing up at the back end of Wildwood on Monday looking to launch a canoe. The area of Wildwood designated for no gas motors has very low water levels. Hoping this post will stop some from a wasted trip. Line 31 looking east. (Furthest from dam) Line 31 looking west. Line 29 looking east. (Closest to dam) Off the main creek channel here you will be lucky to find 2' of water. Water levels will only drop further. Best Wishes: Rick

I stand corrected. The colour and large scales initially confused me. Same colour & scales as the carp I caught a week ago. Mouth is different though. Rick.

I managed to get out for 2 hours yesterday (11-1) before going to one of two Thanksgiving dinners this weekend. Caught a mixed bag of small fish. 1 carp, 2 bass & 2 suckers. All caught on dew worms. The carp: A bass: A sucker: Rick

LONDON SWILL - Saturday Oct. 18 2008 - 7PM

I'll try to make it. It's a busy weekend for me teaching a Advanced Medical First Responders course for 10 hours (+ prep time) on both Sat. & Sun. I have not missed one yet so why start now. And I know the swill would not be the same without my Packer hat, as it has not missed one yet either. Best Wishes: Rick -
Quite legal in most places. Excellent pike bait on a quick strike rig. I have found sardines a little to mushy when thawed. Check the regs. for exceptions. Food Basics has a good selection of frozen fish. Good Luck: Rick

ch312:I have the Seloc manual here. It's the same one for my 67 Johnson 40 hp motor. It has been quite helpful. If I remember correctly I found it at Walmart. Your local UAP/NAPA store should be able to order it for you (SE-67). They also should be able to get the Clymer manual (18-0067). They also can order a lot of replacement parts. Expect about 3 week turnaround if the parts have to come out of the US warehouse. Let me know if I can look up something in the manual for you. Good Luck: Rick

Got out for a few hours on the north branch of the Thames today, near St. Marys. Landed 5 carp and had one break off. The carp weighed 2.5 - 6.25 lbs Also caught one small smallmouth bass. All fish (even the bass) were caught on canned corn. Here's a few pic's. A 3 lb. carp. A 6.25 lb. carp. The small smallmouth bass. Best Wishes: Rick

Although I'm a little suspicious of the whole ordeal, the above statement carries little weight with me from a first time poster. Why this their first post? Damage control? Any business owner that has been in business for anytime would know or should have reasonably known the employment rules. The above two posts happened while I was typing & cooking supper. But than I only type with two fingers also.

I also read the same article. No way they could have not known if the story is even remotely correct. Although it is possible the story is completely wrong I doubt it. They won't see any of my money unless I see something convincingly to change my mind. Rick
