  1. Beauties. The fish look super clean!
  2. I still havent tried this stuff yet, and it was on sale a while back for like 14.99 or something like that. I actually am not sure I want to try it, I'm just going to tell myself not to buy anything for now because I have a spool of 10lb braid that will sit forever if I get the nanofil. Apparently someone went off and tried this in a tank for underwater visibility. Don't know how biased this is because the nanofil does seem to be slightly further back.
  3. Don't do the rivers much, tight lines to you. Nice fish btw.
  4. Days where they're so bad that you can't wait til your buddy calls it? Had a few, but more often than not it'll be my last cast now, after about 5 more casts on top of that. Lol.
  5. I don't think you're doing anything wrong. It's just that fish move from time to time, and if you're not on them, you definitely won't be catching very many. On really tough days, I tend to like to move around more often. My friends and I often claim that the fish are really scattered on those days, but I'm not sure what the truth is at all(Maybe we're on the fish but they're not biting). It does makes me feel better that I covered more area at least having tried to have shown my bait out to the few aggressive fish that are around. Another thing that I found that the water's visibility tends to throw the fishing off if it's not the normal colour it usually is. Bait colour, size, and profile might make or break your day, but I tend to stick with the few standby's that I have. Is this a daytime or night time event for you?
  6. Glad to see you and Chris back in action! Very pretty rivers, along with the trout too!
  7. Held these at the store multiple times before I ended up buying a 36"M Premier - Bought it this long because it has a reel seat. To be honest, these rods don't bend very nice as they have spots on the rod where it doesn't want to bend to make the perfect curve. Some also seem to be splined wrong, famous in St Croix ice and open water rods. If you want to get one, just check those before you buy it. My recommendation would be to get a simax ice rod...If you don't mind the pink tip These bend better and if I didn't remember wrong, costs less. Couldn't tell you about sensitivity...I caught 5 whitefish on Simcoe or something all winter last year, and when they hit, there was no mistaking. Both St. Croix and Simax worked well with spoons for perch though.
  8. Let's not start a fear campaign for everyone that uses Fenwicks. They definitely aren't at the top of the industry now, but I feel that they sure are a contender for $80 - 130 range. The 2 times I did see a fenwick break, they were more in user fault. (Wrapped around tip and loaded up the rod, Trying to pull apart a beaver dam). And the warranty service has been good for me. I sent it to the States, and had a new rod in just over a month. No, Fenwick doesn't sponsor me, but they sure can contact me here to do that I also think that Elite Tech Smallmouth Series is looking mighty fine!
  9. I'm pretty sure there is a huge St. Croix fanbase going around all over north america, and they are really are good rods! The triumph can't be the judge, as I'd say you need to try the Avid to really see how good they are. At the same time, I love my Fenwicks. I had a 6'0MH Walleye class that was beautiful for fishing senkos, until I broke it. Then, I had access to an HMX 6'10MH - This one seemed kind of heavy and not very sensitive. But, this is also the cheapest fenwick I've held. (an $80 rod in the 90's paid for a lot more rod than a new $80 rod does now.) Now I currently have a 6'6M HMGAV(Long discontinued) and a 6'6MH HMG - 2 beautiful rods that handles everything beautifully. Fenwick is one of the most underrated rod companies out there now. The older guys will probably have to explain how they were the leaders in the industry at one point way back when. Another thing to keep in mind is that a rod doesn't make you a better fisherman. It all comes down to YOU, time on the water, and lots and lots of practice.
  10. I'll second Scotsman Point. Andrea was awesome! I even rented a boat later on in the year after going to Andreas, and they were nowhere near as good.
  11. Great deal to be had there! Keep in mind that there's a sale for them at this time every year, I the uninsulated jacket 2 falls ago for under 120! I still need goretex bibs, will look into that for next year.
  12. Nice! Thanks for sharing!
  13. Good stuff! I love frogging videos!
  14. In my short fishing experience I don't think I've noticed any lakes that have gone downhill. I find that there are spots that seem to hold less and less fish because of the pressure it gets. It's all about adapting to your lake, but if that fails, go to another lake and watch that one go downhill! lol.
  15. Alright, well after some more Google about this topic, I think I won't be going back. I DID need the landowner with me...So I've come to this conclusion. I'm proud to say that I got to fish such a lake not once, but twice. Learned to fish a jig and pig there, and practiced it on some aggressive fish. Easily had the best day this year for bass in terms of numbers. You can't deal with all the greedy people in the world, let's just hope that their greed gets them into trouble a little later in life
  16. The spot I am using is a private area that "club members" can use. So my initial understanding was that if you know someone in the club and they offer you access to use what they are part of, it'd be ok. Anyways it's a spot very close to the gta, it's surrounded by actual homes and not cottages. That's probably why we I've been there twice and both times whenever someone sees me the first thing they ask is something along the lines of "why are you here? / who let you in?"
  17. Worst thing is, this is a fun lake as I can fish all sorts of different cover/ structure with only a trolling motor. It's also a very good lake to to practice new techniques.
  18. Well let me clear a little bit of this up. The spot that I'm launching at is a communal beach area that it's members can use. I am just worried that like billm said, you need to be with someone that owns property to be on the lake.
  19. Budget rods around $50 in a light action rod are usually terrible. They tend to twist and torque when you've got a bigger fish on and they're not very sensitive. In the end, it really depends on how much you want to spend. I have used a friend's Shimano Convergence 5'6UL which I did like though. I've held a friend's st croix premier and thought that was Great!
  20. Hey all! Just came across something that seems to be bothering me as I just recently went on a private lake where I'm GIVEN permission to access. This lake also has a club that operates most of the boating facilities for those without a dock in which I used to launch a canoe out of. My car stays parked at the person's home that gave me permission. Today, a couple came out nicely to talk, but hinted to me that they will call the cops next time if I use that land to launch my canoe again without the owner of the house fishing with me. They said something along the lines of there will be a cop car waiting for me to get back to shore next time. Anyone have any further insight to this situation? I'm just getting the feeling that it's almost like all of the house owners nearby need to keep their visitors on a leash. If I do something like Ron did, will I have any leverage on my side? Lol. Anyways, lets hear some opinions! Thanks!
  21. Really cool video! Your frogging presentation is damn fast!
  22. Thanks for the info gentlemen! Awesome that he got to ask me this on our way to a fishing trip, and we get to know the answer on the way back! Cheers!
  23. Bass seem to have moved out of the slop for me. Got a few at 8-12 fow today in the channel today. No bigguns though.
  24. My buddy was planning on driving from Toronto to Winnipeg for school and is planning on going through the US (down through Michigan and then back up). According to Google maps this is faster (by 6hours) than driving through Ontario and up around the lakes, even though the Canadian route is shorter in distance. Can anybody verify if any route is actually longer? Thanks.
