  1. Went out to the holland river to do my first softwater trip of the year for crappie. And i Mean it was a CRAPPY CRAPPIE DAY...lots of people..the first dock i went to was flooded..We fished it for a short amount of time, and we weren't catching fish, but neither were those on boats We then decided to switch over to another spot where there was quite a large number of cars parked and people. lots of folks had their boats out and ready to launch while we were on shore just casting along..still no bite for about 2 hours..called it quits after that, no fish to go home At least I got to go out though. Feels good to be back near the water to wet a line again
  2. wow thanks for all the replies and advice. I might be trying out powerpro if it is working out so great for that many members on this board. i actually soak my line in cool water right after spooling for about 3 hours each time. I always thought that cold water would make the line "shrink" and be tighter and stick to the spool. Will be experimenting with the warm water this year.
  3. I was wondering, how many people on this board actually use monofilament lines? if so, are there any specific brands that have worked well for you? and are there brands that i should stay away from? And here is my first input on the line i've been using: I've been using Stren Magnathin (10lb test) which has been terrible for me for the past year. Yes the line is thin, but after about two weeks of not using the line, it feels really crunchy and has trouble staying onto the spool of a spincast real. Easily causes a lot of tangles in the line. Not sure if im just not matching it with the right hardware though . Have fun fishing everyone. EC
  4. hm, i was thinking about trying that place out also. if its buckets, i might just give it a visit sometime in june or july. hopefully they'll be allowing people to fish.
  5. HAH! i like this one, rule 11 is sad and true
  6. i used to have a smallmouth in my tank, it grew for a while...we fed it shrimp and nearing the time before it died we got it to jump out of the water and grab it out of our hands. fun times. but then i guess these fish werent meant for aquariums....
  7. thanks for sharing! ill check this out right away!
  8. Hey everyone. My first post here anyways. Have to say this year i was out on the water the most compared to all my other years of fishing. Been into this sport since the age of 3 and now 17. My season seems finished this year as i usually fish in the Kawarthas unless if i go somewhere else. I also have a question about how i can start fishing next year. The dams i have usually fished at opens the day when walleye season opens. Crappie and perch did happen to be open a month earlier than the walleye season, so where can i go to fish for crappie and perch? Do i have to be out on a boat? or be somewhere that is nowhere near a dam? Thanks in Advance
