  1. where are you from... huron tribs? I was thinking about heading to the saugeen or the maitland or sauble depending on conditions tuesday..but with all the rain expected i might wait till friday
  2. winter tires are always a good thing to have in addition to quality all around or summer sets. I had a hell of a time driving the RWD CTS with no winter rubber on it...it was like tokyo drift, 100% of the time! needless to say after the first snowfall and that adventure (from oshawa to toronto) with no snows, the snow rubber was promptly installed to save my life.
  3. from you? I didnt get one. unless you directed someone to me, in which case i did get one
  4. if the forecast is right...and it usually is when you want to go fishing and weather is going to ruin it (the only time its ever right) I figure Ill have from about first light until 9 am where the river might actually be PRIME. All depends on how much dirt gets washed in. If oshawa is blown im gonna head to wilmot and see how that is, it seems to be a little more resistant to blowouts, probably because its usually so low and clear
  5. were these fish out of the river? at any rate, I would NOT NOT NOT NOT eat a salmon out of the river right now, or even the harbour. These fish are breaking down, in their last stages of life and there would be no quality to their meat. The only way I would eat a salmon from lake O at the moment would if it were caught out in the blue zone.
  6. Coming home from school this weekend for one of my VERY few oppourtunities at some fall steelheading. Last year I got out almost every day but now that Im living in Guelph (a town which has never seen a trout, less the store bought kind) I can only get out maybe 2 times a month. This weekend it looks like every river in ontario is going to get blown out with 40mm or more of rain. Great. ah well, Ill be out there saturday at first light drowning the most gigantic roe bags ever no matter what. On the bright side, all you lucky ducks that still have a shot at the east tribs whenever you like...Its going to be on FIRE this week. Hopefully the `geen isnt blown when I get there tuesday...if it is I might just jump in and call it a day. play safe out there, the water is getting cold
  7. will somebody PLEASE post this report. haha i have a feeling were in for an EPIC OFC. Whenever a report takes this long it usually includes many many pictures (good ones) and some serious pen work by either moosebunk or Solo. In this case its solo and a whole lot of trout. ...and you guys didnt stop by my rez on the way because?????? damn midterms.
  8. nah, we only got the little black cuddly ones!
  9. Probably a deer, I have had them sneak up on me several times while trout fishin. Anybody who doesnt hunt (me) would be amazed at how such a huge animal can get within 20 ft of you before you notice it.
  10. haha nice Cliff. Side note, Carole have you figured out how to dry those things out? Mine got wet inside and they have been wet for weeks!
  11. People Eating Tasty Animals is always over the top
  12. ill possibly be out sunday morning as well, or maybe sunday evening instead. Depending on how much gas money I have and how the water looks I might be making a mid week run somewhere too
  13. cool bly! Ill be back at the haunt on saturday morning, would love some company if you and/or cliff were looking for a drift
  14. Thanks GCD, good info I have slammed a few hooks into myself and I have no feeling in the left side of my left thumb because of a hook. Got jammed in right tight against the bone and left me only one option, yank the sucker out! Hurt like nothing before, and must have killed a few nerves in the process. I have also used the push through and cut method and the go see the doctor method (when you have two trebles in your back muscles the push through thing really isnt an option.) and the push through heals the nicest
  15. Ive always called them 'wind knots' I cant tell you why it happens, or how but it does. also can cause the loss of a PB steelhead...
  16. Im interested in how you ice fish salt water?
  17. I have been waiting for this report! awesome fish man,
  18. Stand back, way back! Crouch down and think small! Singles on small hooks with light leads are sometimes the only think that will work. Personally, I would probably only give that pool ten minutes of my time, all you are doing is driving yourself insane! If there is 20 fish in a pool and you cant get bit in the first 10 minutes its because they are super spooked. Try the same pool 20 minutes before dark, you will have more luck. On the Uber clear days I tend to fish fast medium depth runs. Usually results in a bunch of smaller fish, but at least I dont have to go to the loonie bin at the end of the day! SIDE NOTE... I have to keep editing my posts because it seems like 50% of the time I type 'in a pool' it comes out with ' in idiot' after being posted. Someone help me out, I know I am not typing 'idiot' every time I try to type pool.
  19. Probably not a 'coaster' but an amazing fish at any rate... although two years back I did see a VERY large brookie, bigger than the one pictured sitting very low in a river (im talking south of the CN tracks) and heading upstream. Do I think that it was a coaster...well probably not I guess but isnt it nice to dream?
  20. Yep, I got tangled up in what looked to be about 50 lb PP wading knee deep once. Right on my ars in the drink, I mean really... 50 lb PP in the tribs?
  21. Sharper Nice fish man! I think I recognize where you are...and if Im right...there is muskies there!? Can you PM me to let me know?
  22. Or if you still want to run a 3 ft lead you can put shot right on your lead. I fish a 5 lb Maxima lead and there is usually at least one shot on it somewhere and I didnt lose any fish due to breakoffs last season. Everyone is scared to put shot on the lead, but its no big deal as long as it is not close to your bait
