  1. Guess I did forget to mention that they were loose eggs. Beautiful ones too, after being stream hardened you could pretty much bounce the suckers. Too bad I dont get to float them until the 21st. Ugh.
  2. Cool, I hardy cure mine usually, a quick rinse in a brine mixture that I make up. Im not sure it really makes any difference at all in regards to curing the eggs but I never have just frozen a huge batch like this before and wanted to make sure I wasnt wasting them. They were stream cured to harden them up too. Sounds like I have about a years worth of brown trout roe. Which means a years worth of crack-hungry steelies! (I dont care what you say, it DOES work better! Drifting the mouth two weeks ago I was hitting fish at a rediculous rate until I ran out of brown roe and went to salmon roe. Same sized bag, same colour, NO fish.)
  3. I harvested some brown trout roe on the weekend, before you jump all over me first know that the fish was not going to make it, had rolled itself gills first into my lead and was bleeding profusely when I landed it. Yes it did come home with me... the WHOLE fish I have a way of freezing my roe that usually results in quite a long shelf life with little to no chace for freezer burn but I just had no time to do it this weekend as I had to get back to school, and I am quite sure my mother did not want to cure my eggs for me. What I did was airdry the eggs for 45 minutes and then froze 15 or so spoonfull batches in seperate ziplock bags (5 of them) and sucked all the air out with a straw. I then double ziplocked them and sucked the air out of the second bag as well. The five double bagged egg batches were then all bagged in one BIG ziplock, air sucked out again and wrapped in a towel and the whole kit and kaboodle was placed into a big tupperware and put into the freezer. I have only ever frozen small batches of roe without doing anything to it (I normally use a VERY light cure) and used it quickly after freezing. I did these up in seperate batches because I know that if its fresh I only get to freeze it once, after that it gets goopy. What do you guys think, does this roe have a chance or am I risking wasting it? It would really be a shame as its enough to last me the entire winter or more. thanks kemper
  4. I KNEW I didnt make that up! Has worked well for me in the past, water level is usually a little higher down at the bottom and changes with the lake. Dave (JDMLS) and I tried that out this weekend and were not rewarded but it definatly has been a trend I have noticed. good info Mike
  5. Got out this weekend with Dave, he was talking about the Kingpin and from what I heard it seems like a sweet rig
  6. Other than one day where I slammed them, the rivers I usually fish have been dead this fall. Lots of browns to play with but no steel tuggin the line. My opinion? We got a couple of days of REALLY high water and they all shot upstream. There are lots of fish to be seen if you have a look up north, just cant fish em. Low water levels and strange weather are messin with the fish. Some rivers seem to have really high returns this fall, others not so much. I think the next rain in this cooler weather should kickstart them, but im also prepared for a bad fall because my usual river doesnt seem to turn on untill the snow flies.
  7. Happened alot two summers ago around my neighbourhood. Got to the point where so many windows were being smashed we actually left the cars open and made sure nothing was in there to steal. Took the insurance papers and stuff out at night. A friend of mine had ten bucks stolen from him one friday night, so he left a 20 on the dash of his truck and hung out in the back seat (black tint on the windows) all night. Sure enough they came by and got quite the surprise when the opened the door for the 20. Seemed odd for this to be happening in a nice neighbourhood like ours, but it turned out that it was a group of kids I went to highschool with, and yes they were looking for drug money and stuff to sell quick. Unlike most, they did get caught
  8. I guess I should have been more clear about the size 10, I only use 10s when the water is murky enough to get away with it. At all other times 12 is as small as I go, also depends on the hook brand as it seems like a 12 in the kind i use is a little smaller than other 12s
  9. Wow boys, unreal day on the water! I ended up getting into one bow at the mouth the night after we walked all morning for nothin and landed a nice brown yesterday in the gin on a MICRO white jig in the really fast stuff. Looks like a great day guys, see you on the river
  10. What brand hook are you using in size 14? I never go smaller than a 12...EVER. The smaller you get the lower your chances are of hooking up, and if you jam the hook into the bag well enough you can get away with 10s sometimes. My weapon of choice seems to be the 12. Also, its a game of timing, sometimes you hit it and other times you dont. Some days you know will be unreal you have to drop everything and go or miss the run
  11. Interesting. Hey, lets all head on over to mybackyardicerinks.com and buy some of them ice rinks. SPAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
  12. I remeber my uncle talking about the skamania last year. He is part of a stocking program on lake Huron and I remember him saying something about them...Cant for the life of me remember what though. Ill ask next time I see him
  13. Its possible, just because they are summer run does not mean they are skamania for sure though. We get the odd summer run (REALLY small) here in the south too (oops, did I say that out loud) and I dont believe they are skamania
  14. well she was beautiful... i mean aw crap
  15. Just checked my forecast and its telling me no rain till saturday morning. Weird. Well if she pours ill be fishin the rise (although I am fresh out of roe, which really sucks) and if not ill be bouncin with worms i guess
  16. fixed. i knew it haha congrats rick
  17. It was around 4 30 AM when I reeled in the world record walleye last night. Surprisingly caught while bottom bouncing for steelies at my local haunt. She was a gigantic 26 pounds! Boy was I excited! Until I woke up! crap
  18. "Ive met cats and dogs smarter than Cory and Trevor...actually MOST cats and dogs are smarter than cory and trevor"
  19. Im dreading the winter. I dont ice fish so my only chance at a fish throughout the winter is steelheading. Dont get me wrong I love winter steelheading as much as the next guy but now that I`m away at school with no tribs close to me I dont have the chance to just go whenever the weather co operates. Winter steelheading is all about the weather and I am just going to have to hope that it is right when I am home
  20. You can bet ill be out all weekend. Actually Ill probably be bouncin' because the rivers have got to be gin at the moment
  21. I was just pokin fun, spinning is definatly at the advantage. I actually am in the works of building a bouncin only set up. I find my 13'6" a little too whippy, kinda like casting a sunfish on a hook into the wind with a 13 foot piece of spaghetti.
  22. Man up solo, I bottom bounce with my pin! okay not usually, but I have done it on occasion with the same results as a spinner
  23. im home all weekend cliff and will be doing some bottom bouncing myself, I have everything if you are looking for a fishin partner and solo, great fishin
