  1. I've owned two Ravens, both not overly expensive and both total workhorses. The matrix is a great starter reel...ugly as hell but just try to kill it...you cant. Purchased the SST3 vectra last season, cost a little more (but still on the cheap end) and performs amazingly well. Requires a little more upkeep but that doesnt bother me. Look into Raven, great stuff at low prices
  2. Maxima Ultragreen non flouro or bust. I bought two types of flouro and gave up on both of them. Tried the redwing stuff and it was garbage and tried froghair and it was the most useless crap I have ever seen. Couldnt turn a fish, couldnt hold a knot, couldnt take a hookset. The UG is super strong, I run 10 lb mainline and 5 lb Maxima UG and I get broke off rarely enough that I can't think of a specific time in the last season.
  3. I guess I should have added that all those things went on the aztec in the first year...its been fairly good since. as for the caddy, only the steering rack was covered. Mechanic said he had never seen anything like it before. OH and the kicker is that it was leaking rad fluid when he bought it! nice. That there is quality. They did fix that too.
  4. Recently bought my first car...1994 (really used) Acura (fancy word for honda) integra. 285 000 kms, rust in all the right places and it runs like the day it rolled off the lot. Doesnt leak a drop of anything, doesnt cough sputter or otherwise, the thing barely even burns any oil (about the only issue Ive ever heard with Honda) This car has sold me on Honda...find me a 1994 sunfire that has no leaks, good exhaust, passes E test and safety...wait you would have to find that that even starts first! Parents both drive GMS, their first ones in years and both swear to never drive another. Dads 2005 Cadillac CTS 3.6 (~$60K) TWO wheelbearings at under 90km, $700 each, FULLY seized up steering rack at under 100km, leaks everything, hogs gas and other than the fact that it is stupid fast and fun to drive its basically been useless since day 1. Mom bought a 2001 Aztec and has been driving it since it had about 50k on it... upper and lower rad hoses, rad itself, A/C, blower motor, exhaust, also TWO wheel bearings, etc etc etc. Ill drive my 94 Honda for a while, seems like better bang for my buck.
  5. Im gonna go against the grain here...I bet at top end it would be 4lbs. Still a sweet largie for sure but I just don't see it hitting 5 lbs. If my 22" smallie cant hit 5lbs what the hell can...
  6. do it every opening weekend...sleep from about 3 am till 5 am then back on the river its not all that bad
  7. weird how weights vary so much on fish of the same general size. My dad caught a 22.75 incher on buckhorn and we were all thinking it was at least 5.5..came out at only 4lb 12 oz! Sweet fish dude
  8. I pretty much leave my roe fresh... it gets a quick rinse in bottled water with coarse seasalt and then a semi dry on some newpaper and into the freezer. Its good for a whole season and milks much better than cured eggs. I find that when cured simply like that it CLEARLY outfished cured roe when the bite is normal... when its on fire everything works the same
  9. You won't get a 'run' of bows any time soon...and in that area you will be fishing mostly residents. Also, no pinks around here...although I am not sure of the status of salmon runs on the grand I can tell you pinks just arent around
  10. Not completely true, fresh salmon will and often due hit in the river....key is FRESH salmon. Old boots, not so much. Salmon fishin in larger systems is a blast
  11. You don't need flouro. Go to a tack shop and get a spool of Maxima Ultragreen leader material, its like 4 bucks for a 25 yard spool and the stuff is STRONG. I use the 4lb and 5 lb test all you need is 12- 18 inches of it under a swivel on your float set up. Some people swear by flouro but I think the guys that float fish with me and use flouro would agree that that they don't outfish me often...its pretty much 1:1
  12. Northam, but I make my own. Recently dealt with Frank actually and he helped me out big time when I accidentally shipped my baits to my residence at university...and I am at home for the summer
  13. Bill, buy a blistex lip chap for two bucks and put it in the pocket of your vest. Chap up the guides the night before and the morning of and say bye bye to iced up tips. It saves you from having to ask your buddy to suck on your er...tip? Right Dave?
  14. I was, I had them chasing down 3 inch minnow patterns on the fly! Didn't want to post anything because I was enjoying doing it all alone...
  15. Maybe we are giving the perch too much credit.... OHHHH SHINY HOOK! end of story
  16. the heck.... thats awesome!
  17. had one in my hands the other day. If I didnt need to buy a car it would have been no hesitation..sweet little stick
  18. CoolB...There is a name I havent seen around in a long time Nice fish dude
  19. I managed a couple three pounders just up river from where you were in that second picture. There are some hogs in there for sure
  20. looks like a coho to me but that would be too easy...
  21. no bananas, and if a banana is found then the rule breaker donates a lure to the fish gods
  22. errr... 4 float rods 3 casting 5 spinning 2 ultralite edit 1 fly rod and countless bits and pieces
  23. Its gonna be just like last summer if it continues. I was hitting chinnys (and a few hos for that matter) third week in august last year. Lots of rain thru the summer means scattered runs and a warm year with less rain means a big buildup and a few larger runs. Besides, chinnies are only entertainment until the real fish show up
  24. slammin last weekend mike. Spent 20 minutes on shore then 30 minutes in a kayak and ended up with a 15" two 17" and a fatty 18" that was pressing the 4 lb mark...mega fat! All on a spook...to let you know how much I love spooks I actually have a 'spook' dedicated rod.
  25. Thats right, soda is reserved for the shore... Nice brookie
