  1. A super lightweight reel isnt really necessary, that said I own a Raven Vectra SST3 and I love it to death. I am careful with it because I have heard you can bend em...but I havent had any such problems. Just last week it took down a 40" chinny on the credit without any bending issues.
  2. interesting I coudlnt even get a sniff on a pinky today....only thing I could find that worked was tiny roe bags, two bangers as I like to call them
  3. are we talkin swine flu sick? because the swine flu is a beautiful excuse for pharmaceutical companies to cash in BIG time, but thats about all it is.
  4. what, you mean that they didn't return like many hoped... I really really really hope this program works....I do. But, i dunno. *edit Im not trying to bash ya here Mike, its great that you're getting involved and its more than I am doing! I hope I'm wrong, I would REALLY love to tangle with one of those little beauties when they get bigger!
  5. Timing is key, so is confidence in your bait. I've been learning new water this fall with almost nothing to show for it, I decided to tackle a bigger system then I'm used to and quite frankly I'm useless at it. But with time I'll learn how the new water fishes and start catching. Two days ago I hooked nothing on roe all day (go figure) and then busted out the white jig at the end of the day and took a HUGE chinny (40") and a nice little steelie right at the end of the day. Just keep givin er, youll get em
  6. Ive heard somewhere else, but I want to check if its for real before I say anything... If it is true its an interesting choice...
  7. Usually seem to be skinny fish and even the monsters aren't that heavy. That said I Hooked a 42 on stony that was real fat and would have gone high on the scales so it makes you wonder if that fish would carry the same girth at 50"
  8. Works great on my iPod On it now actually
  9. Take a page out of the trout opener book and just pass out on the river bank? Seriously though, sleepin in the car isnt all that bad
  10. You wouldn't go shorter than 13' Bill? I agree that the long stick DEFINITELY has its place, but I also think the short stick does as well.... I have a 10'6" and an 11'6" that are a complete blast to fish in smaller flows...of course I wouldnt whip them out on the Niagara but for droppies on the smaller east tribs I love the 11'6"
  11. The size of the Grand system is keeping me away...I wouldnt even know where to start in the slightest? Notty is an option, but that river has repeatedly beat me up and I hold a grudge against it lol
  12. Hey guys, Lookin around for some steelhead fishin close to home for me during the school year and I thought I would give the Maity a run for its money. A couple questions, 1) Does it blow out real easy or is it pretty stable? 2) What kind of access do I have? 3) If anyone has any general access points (I'm not looking for your fishin holes, I'd much rather find my own) it would be a great help...pm me if you like. I hate asking because the "do your own legwork" response is a good one, but fact is I have an hour and a half drive just to get out there and with my limited student gas budget I would really rather not drive around for 3 hours trying to find an access point Thanks guys Kemper
  13. I happen to like my wet noodle, I built a sweet st. croix last year and for some reason I still always reach for the IM6. I need to stop doing that and get some action on the custom stick. Sil I made the loogan comment because I knew you'd be all over that one just kiddin bud.
  14. Avoid the aventa....at all costs. Look in the classifieds here or on floatfishing . net and you can find some REALLY sweet deals. That said I have a Raven IM6, and I love it. Many bash it to death and say you break one every three minutes but only loogans break rods like that
  15. you soak em that long bill? All I ever give them is ten minutes and a couple spins...dry em out then a drop of sewing machine oil and youre good as new
  16. The diet answer is a good one...same reason why large resident trout from a river I fish have red flesh but the steelies that move through the same system have much lighter flesh
  17. Looks good, How do you find the narrow strip to tie with? Was it a narrow crosscut? I tried to tie with the narrow strip once and found that the jigs came out snowball like with no shape to them, still worked though! I love tyin jigs...give this pattern a try its been my best gobble!
  18. My strugglingstudentwithhugerentexpense white bucket isnt worth quite enough for a boat...lol
  19. Im not saying that a ton of people didnt already know...but if you have fished there you know that 4 people is too many.
  20. beautiful post exact locations...especially one like that that already gets RAMMED with people. are you kidding me!?
  21. right, and that 16" bass I caught last week was a 10 pounder.
  22. Cohos seem to be more willing to take bait than chinooks...Actually I latched into two of them last weekend while drifting a pool full of chinooks without hooking a single chinny... Also I seem to remember hearing/reading that they don't all die after the spawn but I may be way off base on that one so don't quote me.
  23. Saw two beauties the other day at oshawa while I was attempting to pester a run of browns that came in.... two guys (middle aged, seemed to be speaking a eastern european language) fishin with tuna sticks and 100lb PP trudging RIGHT thru the river until they see a salmon, bell sinker and a huge treble right into the flesh and then as soon as the fish is within arms reach it got the gaff. Just a beauty. Would have said something (in vain im sure) but I had my girlfriend with me and didnt need an altercation
  24. I had one for a year...you cant tell me that it isnt ugly! but bashing it off rocks, dunking in the river and general misuse couldnt kill it
