  1. I don't usually cure my eggs (although it really depends on the eggs).. As for freezing, I freeze in small ziplock bags a days portion at a time. One normal sized ziplock will usually hold 5-6 smaller ziplock bags full of eggs. Take one out, let it thaw and tie it up.. If I've got loose chinny roe, I'll usually do a cure on it, but brownie or steelhead roe from the US? Not a chance.... tie it up fresh and store the rest in the freezer.
  2. Half the time you 'hook' a fish all you're feeling is the line running across it's back then your hook digging into it's dorsal fin, lol. Fishing for salmon in the creeks is like shooting fish in a barrel. Let them do their thing.
  3. Suspended off the deep weed edges, could be over 30-40ft of water. That's where I'd be looking if I was hunting giants in NW Ontario.
  4. Oh yeah, pinch those barbs as well
  5. Word of caution, once the below zero temps get here switch back over to the Raven.. Ice in the guides will rip Nanofil to shreds.. That being said nothing comes close to it in above zero temps.. Casts a mile, zero stretch, mends like crazy.
  6. Yup, the issues you were having with your Jeep were with the EGR, can't beat a $0.25 fix! Make sure the oil you're using for your Jetta is VW507 approved or else they'll give you a hard time if you ever need warranty repairs (Although I suspect you're using Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 which is both MB 229.5 and VW507 approved) FYI, OCI for your Jetta is 16,000kms Also can't beat canister filters! So easy to replace without getting oil all over the place.
  7. I wouldn't be out on G Pool in an inflatable... Little Lake, maybe.
  8. Nice!! How was the ride in once you hit the Sultan rd? Also, any big snakes?
  9. Stick to the creeks. I've found some big brookies in creeks you could easily jump over. Small Panther Martins, Mepps will all do the job.
  10. Yes both chinooks (king) salmon. I guess the madness has begun!
  11. I'd still lip it. I've never put a hook into my finger because of a lip hold even if the fish shakes...., it's always the body hold when they shake loose and end up digging the wrong end of the hook into your finger/hand.
  12. Nice shot! A little more DOF and the bees would have been in focus as well.
  13. I buy T6 for my TDI as well... Usually have it onsale for $29 once in a while.
  14. 50+ in spring pike... Making attempt #2 in May
  15. Make sure it's an approved oil for the engine... Only stuff that will work for most diesels sold at CT is either Rotella T6 5w40 or Mobil 1 TDT 5w40.
  16. What's wrong with the motor?
  17. 15-20g or even bigger. All depends on how big the skein is..
  18. Yup, egg loop is perfect.. Keep that hook out in the open and when they chomp on it, it's game on! Funny thing is, I never have chinnies drop my float like a steelhead will, it usually just starts to quiver a bit then slowly drops, lol! After that, all hell breaks loose.
  19. Nothing beats fresh roe, nothing. I don't care what kind of fancy dancy cure you're using. If I'm fishing salmon in the estuary water, I'm using big skein chunks, golf ball size or bigger, not tiny little roe bags.
  20. Wow, that thing is a giant! That's easily a 40lb class fish.
