In the canal itself? I grew up in St.Catharines, only time I ever fished it was in the fall for salmon (ie dirty boots). A lot of other options around there that you'd probably fish instead during the summer, etc.

Wait until you feel the fish then set the hook. Too many people are setting the hook on the splash.. Also, bass are known for stunning their prey then coming back. So if the fish misses, just let the bait sit there... 9 times out of 10 they'll come back and eat it up.

Holy crap Lew! Similar thing happened to my oldman, ran over a nest of yellowjackets with the lawnmower, they got him good!

I'm pretty sure the oldman has a set of Leer sidesteps on his Duramax. Simple install as well, it will probably take you all of 20 mins.
