  1. FAST drop off into deep water near feeding flats. Don't worry about weeds at this time of the year.....vertical jigging with jigging Rapala's tip with minnows on the belly hook.
  2. About 2 week ago I had 2 rods that "I" broke (long story) and took the tip sections back to Cabela's as they both were Cabela's rods. I found the fishing dept manager and ask where the repair kits were.....he looked at the rod tips and ask if they were Cabela's rod.......of course I said yes.......he then said you can either purchase rod repair kits or we will replace the rods for free if you have the other sections of the rods. Well, I had them in the car and Bada Boom Bada Bing........ Cabela's replace two rods.....one was over 25 years old ($79.99) and the other was about 5 years old ($49.99). I walk out....no dance out of there one happy happy happy man ! ! ! CABELA'S is on GREAT store when it comes to customer service . . . .
  3. I purchased a new Polar Kraft this year and here are the weights 17'-11" with a 99" beam, walk thru windshield 1240 lbs 90 hp HO E-TEC (actually a 115hp down tuned to a 90) 390 lbs (top speed 42.2 mph via GPS) 3 batteries 65 lbs each = 195 lbs Bow mount TM aprox 100 lbs Trailmaster Trailer guessing 500 lbs 23 gallon built in tank with fuel = 191 lbs Total without fishing gear = 2615 lbs
  4. If you ever thought about slapping down a huge amount of money for a Yeti or Yeti type cooler you might want to watch this short info video first. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6-TE4RnqT0U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
  5. I agree 100%.......but after reading your description of the vessel, they might have done you a favor.......but again not right.
  6. Quaker State in the 70's was one on the better oils because it was a wax base oil compared to sulfer based oil from Texas. sludge in the upper rocker arms was usually from someone adding STP to their oil.
  7. This oil is OEM in ford vehicles. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/201410982392?ul_noapp=true&chn=ps&lpid=82
  8. I will be surprised if you get it back before October.
  9. X3 on this.....rented out my house years ago and it was only 75 miles away....NIGHTMARE is all I can say and I did my homework. If you were very close then YES do it but they will wear you down being 4 hours away.
  10. Had my first OLD boat come off the hitch ball and kept hearing a thump as the trailer held up by only on chain was hitting the trucks bumper while towing down a high speed highway. Pulled over and put the trailer back on the ball where it belonged and went fishing.
  11. I only got 30 years from my Johnson VRO outboard, but I'm happy with that.
  12. No lake recovers in less then 1 year. No netting forever is the real solution to this problem. BUY OUT THE NETTERS and be done with it.
  13. YES, I have mastered this while crappie fishing but when perch fishing deep water on Erie I will wave other anglers over to share the bite. Shallow water fish spook very easily, especially when clowns throw their anchors.
  14. You're right, I don't see anyone stealing that painted prop anytime soon.
  15. I always ask them "excuse me, am I in the way, should I move" ? Then just as I'm leaving I make the remark "you don't have to go in the bathroom to see the as holes".
  16. Had similar thing happen to my 30 year old Johnson. The dealer basically said it's not worth repairing, so I upgraded to a new E-TEC and that baby came with a 7 year warranty........but that deal may have ended in March. However they usually offer a 5 year warranty at the end of the year (September) to clear out old inventory at the dealers. If you need a new outboard, think that one over. BTW my dealer dealt in Yammies and E-TEC so I had my choice. I REALLY love the new E-TEC's.
  17. I disagree with going to the pound for a "Family" dog.....you are rolling the dice as you have no history on that dog. If I'm going to put forth all the effort, expense and training I want to know the history of this dog before I decide to take it home. If you want a true family pet that can also be used for hunting then I would get a American Lab if I was you. They are VERY gentle to kids and BABIES and you will not find a more loyal dog and it's rated 7th on the dog intelligent list out of about 200 breeds. Easy to train and they love people. Many breeds are tough to train and there is nothing much you can do about that. If you noticed I mentioned a American Lab because there is also a English Lab that is shorter, stockier and have a square head that are breed as show dogs. They actually are a bit funny looking compared to the American Lab.
  18. BTW The Fish House Grill has tables outside, inside or what they call inside/outside where we ate. Great place to eat.
  19. Reds is a small shack with real nic eating area behind it. I would guess if raining you would have to eat in your car. Nice ride though on rt1
  20. We just returned from Bar Harbor, Maine........can't tell you anything about fishing in that area but they will take you out on a boat while they catch lobsters...... Place to eat in Bar Harbor is The Fish House Grill right on the water near the pier......VERY good and reasonable. Try the stuffed lobster AND try the appetizer sampler with shrimp, clams, oysters, lobster claws and crab claws. Something to do right there/near Bar Harbor is visit Acadia National Park, it right there....drive up Cadillac Mountain, it's the highest peak on the east coast. We went to Maine for the annual Rockland, Maine "LOBSTER FESTIVAL" which was held July 29th through the first weekend of August. I could tell you where to get the VERY BEST Lobster Roll but it's a drive from Bar Harbor (Reds Eats in Wiscasset, Maine.....but if you can find a place that serves it with just cut up lobster and not made into a lobster salad served on a roll, well that's what you want. Sorry, forgot to add the link for you.... Acadia NP http://www.nationalparks.org/explore-parks/acadia-national-park?gclid=CPG16bn4pccCFYoTHwod3IcCHA Reds Eats (nice ride along the coast) https://www.google.com/maps/place/Red's+Eats/@44.0025986,-69.664084,17z/data=!4m7!1m4!3m3!1s0x4cad923894c27885:0xdf6136272c1d7296!2sRed's+Eats!3b1!3m1!1s0x4cad923894c27885:0xdf6136272c1d7296?hl=en They TRULY serve this lobster roll with OVER a pound of lobster on each roll....worth every penny ! ! ! BTW if you haven't been to Maine you will be surprised how REASONABLE everything is when you travel around and eat....wish we could go every year.
  21. I had used backing on my old boat (30 years) and it was just 1/4" underlayment so don't fret on what you use.....it never rotted or even looked used when I stripped the depth finder/GPS and VHF radio off this past May.....it was a open boat with a side console with a small windshield.....so whatever you got laying around will work just fine......it's really completely protected under there.
  22. I have GPS on my boat but sometimes like to mark a SHALLOW area with a marker because it's sometimes easier to relate to but they were wrong in the way they handled it. This is just one of the reasons I gave up all tournament fishing years ago. It's too serious and sucks the fun out of it and I was one of those sucking the fun out of it....now I REALLY enjoy fishing with the same partner as I fished tournaments with as he feels the same way. We laugh and have a good old time while even catching a fish or two
  23. VERY Sorry for your loss............if I was you I would now be a full time wolf hunter and would not rest until the score was even.
  24. I just seen several sliders for a 238 today at Cabela's. the Cheektowaga, NY store...they were in the BARGAIN CAVE part of the store for $74
