  1. I havent changed heart at all, id never fish a bass boat in big open lakes...Obviously that seems weird when I fish G bay...but Pointe Au Baril is a set back off of the main lake, and I never venture into the open section of the lake unless im in a 20+ foot boat...that lake can blow up way too big way too fast to even risk being caught. My understanding on okeechobee was that they were running at speed and basically darted headfirst into a roller with the nose of the boat and that was it. As ive said earlier in the thread, this would be my fishing ripping around boat that I can trailer to other lakes when need be. The old man has bigger boats for when the weather is ugly or you need to head to big water. A few years back i was heading out for laketrout with the old man in the 26 footer, it was absolute glass calm through the back channels, only to come out on the open lake into 10 foot rollers, friggin scary as hell. I swear the great lakes in 10 footers is wayyy scarier then the 20 foot rollers that I was in out off the north coast of haida gwaii a couple of years ago...totally different type of waves.
  2. its called the Cirillo Aqua Dump, my buddy mike perfected it...you hang off the ladder and let the trolling motor create a bidet
  3. You and i seem to think alike...i also fish the same place all of the time...there were a few years where i smacked rocks lol...but now I know my lake pretty well.
  4. ...ive fished goby patterns for smallies before, and now I think a lightbulb just went off in my head.
  5. have had 2 friends with Motorguides...both went with the terrova and never looked back. I also just went from the powerdrive to the terrova...and will never look back either.
  6. my guess is that you would have a mix of both resident and migrating fish...at least in my personal experience, there are always straggler fish that seem to like their digs where they spawn and never leave.
  7. aside from people saying "this is terrible" this thread is inherently political. As such the thread probably cant survive on this forum under the current rules. I will say that I am really happy to see that everyone so far has displayed simple logic!
  8. im really interested in what it was specifically that you changed technique wise to bring you so much success...unreal vid.
  9. to be honest...smoking rates continue to decline year over year...Regulation and taxation being the main driver of this...pretty much proving that if you heavily regulate something and make it difficult for a person to do...Low and behold, less people do it. What a strange concept! Looking forward to completely forgetting about this whole ordeal by Monday morning, just like the rest of the american populous...too many pockets are lined for anyone to do anything...corruption at its finest.
  10. ive got a 19 foot alumacraft that i can use for the days that the bay isnt being friendly...id be fishing this boat much like i do my tinner. Ive also been fishing small tourneys in the kawarthas now, this boat would be 100% perfect for those days. Come the fall when things turn ugly and get cold im always out with my pops in his boat anyways. I am interested in some of the aluminum shallow hull side consoles..but selection is fairly limited...you cant beat the amount of casting room on a bass boat though.
  11. Cant say i disagree but at the end of the day when im really thinking about how i would be fishing this boat specifically, 99% of the time it would be mostly for bass fishing...thats the one beauty of a true bass boat is that they get somewhat devalued because of their lack of use for much else other than bass fishing. I would definitely never downrig or even do any open water fishing in it at all. No need for skiing or cruising either as we have boats to cover both of these things as well. Shallow hull, rod and gear storage and lots of deck space for standing up is the key...speed is also a big plus because im on georgian bay, travelling is part of the game. 17 foot bass boat with a 100-150hp looks really good thus far. As far as hitting big water, going out in really bad weather or multi species angling..thats when i would leave my boat at home and head out in the old man's boat.
  12. fished it once probably 4 years ago...most of our luck came between the two islands...all bass though, cant comment on the crapolas
  13. The helix ice only released a chirp ice deucer this year...so unless your set up is brand new for this season your deucer doesnt support chirp. From the looks of it, your helix is also a Gen 1? as such when humminbird did the ice fishing specific update this fall, they didnt include the gen 1 models on the update. Helix is still the best bang for buck on the market right now IMO. The comment about fish in the water column, we get pike and crappies that come outta nowhere at 10 FOW while fishing 30+ all of the time. I would never zoom specifically on the bottom, you are probably missing fish! sweet vid joey, you got me pumped for this weekend!
  14. have fun paying him 2.5 a year to go away...still one of the best leaf trades of all time ahhaha
  15. no problem on the hijack lol most threads that get enough replies always go off topic. For consideration is that this is definitely going to be a "starter boat/fart around boat" of sorts for me. The problem is that my current set up just doesnt fish 3 guys at all...you can do it but its just not really reasonable. Thats the main driver here, I want to be able to fish 3 guys My pops actually bought the boat of my dreams last fall and at 65 years old im sure once he gets on in his years he will not have any problem with me using it a bit more frequently. The issue is that as it currently stands I dont have the freedom to take that boat where I want or when i want. I think the concensus here and the logic about getting a HELOC might be the way to go when im ready to pull the trigger...I dont see myself purchasing in the spring when the prices are favorable to the seller...might wait until people are thinking about having to store their boats next fall. shopping around is fun...what i have seen so far looks promising!
  16. maybe ti was just me, but my piranha max boat transducer had some trouble in cold water as well. I would get transducer not connected message, as soon as the unit warmed up it had no issues. Obviously, once it was not below zero the thing never had an issue.
  17. lol and you know the CO will be out there busting everyone too.
  18. once saw a pike filet with the tail on start kicking in the frying pan. lol
  19. this is fair...things i love most in life Family my dog my girlfriend fishing and being in the boat doing it....im out there 100+ days a year so i think I can justify the couple hundred bucks a month...especially now that ive spent the last 2 years really getting my gear to a level where I want it to be. Obviously rods can break etc...but for the most part im set up on that front now...I was probably spending that much gearing myself up anyways for the past two years. Gotta remember, you can always resell a decent boat so not all is lost if crap really does hit the fan. You might lose your equity in it, but thats a sunk cost anyways.
  20. https://www.sail.ca/en/minn-kota-terrova-80-us2-ip-bt-449754 got mine for 1700 from sail last fall.
  21. this exactly...used a power drive with pedal, then used a powerdrive with ipilot...and now we have a terrova on the big boat...its not even close to comparable. Plus lift assist is huge!
  22. bah, spend the extra little bit of money and get the terova when it goes on sale...you wont regret it. Especially if you have never used ipilot...youd think its just gimmicky...but if you ever fish open water or in the wind at all, you will not regret it for a second.
