  1. The Skoda is what makes it cheap
  2. Wow! nice pic, Sherriff! As a young kid on a summer camp canoe trip, I almost stepped on one in my socks, where the Gibson river meets Georgian Bay...had the same scary moment of being caught mid-step.
  3. Right on the $$ with that reference, irish! I am genuinely impressed though -- catching the broken line AND keeping his one hand on the boat. He's definitely got skills!
  4. nicely done -- can't complain about sunny weather and hungry trout!
  5. Nice shot of your Pepsi can Good report...next time you'll get something!
  6. I have done pretty well with a "Pink Lady" diver and a nice medium weight spinning rod with 10lb test. But that was from a canoe, which allows you to go slow enough, as that diver REALLY pulls. Doing it from the boat was a little tougher, but manageable. Just used a silver williams spoon and it worked pretty well in the middle of the summer at about 60 fow. I have a small downrigger now, so I'm looking forward to hearing some feedback from those who rig regularly. And I HOPE that 12lb mono is the way to go...'cause I just spooled up a new Walker rod and reel with the stuff!
  7. Wow -- nice fish pics -- and the shot of the ice underneath the cedars is amazing! I had a day out on the ice last year that had us catching fish every time we fired up the sleds and ran them around a bit....I wonder if there's something to that....
  8. I have driven by it lots, never fished it, never seen many people fishing it. A good guy to call might be John, at Bait on the Lake. He is literally around the corner from there, and is usually full of advice on who catches what, where. I've got the number saved in my cell as 705.765.7100, but I googled it and came up with 705.765.1600.
  9. And this is BAD news? Let me get my auger....
  10. easy to be happy with a one-fish day when THAT'S the one fish. WOW...very nicely done! I have to admit that while I was watching the video, my one leg would kinda stiffen and straighten right out every time the drag started peeling out Exciting stuff!
  11. It also seems that the negative posters disappear quicly, while the supportive ones stick around. Just another reason, IMHO, that this board sticks around...there's a solid bunch of supportive sportsmen/women. Really glad to see you got that beautiful Jeep, along with yourself and those with you, out of the hole safe and sound, Cityfisher.
  12. Hey Waterwolf.....I see you are in Brampton....as I am...I think I know where that conservation area is....near a big blue footbridge perhaps?
  13. yes...mammatus! All I could think was mimosa, for some reason. I always thought these clouds showed up before a big downpour....nice shot!
  14. WOW...I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE THE CAPS....THANKS FOR THE REPORT! I'M TAKING THE LITTLE MAN TO SIMCOE ON SATURDAY, WEATHER PERMITTING...HOPE HE CAN SHOW ME UP TOO
  15. wow -- the grin on your sister's face says it all! You definitely have a fishing buddy for life Thanks for sharing
  16. great adventure! And that last sunset shot is a real beauty....a memorable trip with or without the fish...nicely done
  17. knock'em dead, Wayne! We eagerly await the pics
  18. For $12k I don't think you can go wrong.
  19. Now, I don't know what you're paying, so, everything I'm about to say could be totally moot if you're getting a smokin' deal. So here goes nothin': I would make the stretch to a 2005 --- everything changed for the better. Mercedes Benz transmission, independent suspension and Electronic Stability Program (also taken from MB). Those factors alone = better mileage, longer transmission life, and MUCH improved ride/handling, from a comfort and safety point of view. However, money is always a factor....if the warranty is a Chrysler warranty that gives you the gold coverage, and you're paying...mmm....less than $14,000, I would say it's a no-brainer. Start going higher than that, and you can get into an '05/6 with lower mileage and a much better overall package. Just my $0.02
  20. Well, here is a link to a page of topo maps for the park: www.fedpubs.com/mpchrt/maps/algonquin.htm Also, if you go here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/8488/algonquin-park-map , you can see a PDF of the whole park and it's canoe routes. This particular map used to be easier to find on the web, but this was the only site I could locate it on. As for the fishing in Happy Isle, we covered the shoreline from the opening of the bay leading into Adrienne Lake, toward the first campsite across from the island, and did quite well with the smallies. Green tube jig tossed out to deeper water nailed a beautiful 3+ lber. From the looks of the lake though, any of the steeply dropping shorelines would produce...easy fishing. I think that was on Burnt Island....my buddy never shuts up about it...very difficult to get him to camp on islands now.
  21. wow...they really are lowering their prices everyday
  22. There are definitely a couple operators down there, as I was asking around while I visited in the summer. All I can remember right now is the local bait & tackle guy -- Rotten Ronnie. This link should work: http://web.kwic.com/serranno/ If that doesn't work, you can find him on Google "Rotten Ronnies + Long Point". When I stopped in and talked to him, he had all the angles on who to go to for huts, and where to fish. Good luck!
  23. I was also going to mention Happy Isle Lake....plentiful and co-operative smallies, with a good chance at some really nice sized ones. Easy back lakes to get into from there as well, if you bring your lake trout tackle as well. And yes, Canadian Canoe Routes is definitely worth checking out. Brown boxers. Ha!
  24. I am definitely up for some of that action! Make sure you post when you're going, if you want company I am good from shore, or the float tube
  25. I figured Walter was just the biggest fish of whatever species you happen to be after Emeralds have never let me down. Hooked just behind the dorsal fin, ALONGside the spine, never across it, they will last all day..sometimes even go back in the bucket for the next day. Bye BYE Wade Belak!
