Go ahead punk!... Make My Day!!!
-
Well if my Willy ever starts to feel Wiarton... I'll be sure to watchout for the snow!
-
Well, the most famous Ground Hog saw his shadow today and predicted 6 more weeks of winter for the North. I haven't heard if General Lee in Atlanta saw his shadow or not for the South. ... but there are signs that Spring is on it's way around the house here in 'Bama! Ol' Yellers Winter posies are bloomin' real nice like! ... and Daffodils are starting to spring up in the gardens! ... even the Day Lillies have decided to come up! Y'all enjoy the ice fishin' while ya can, it won't be around too much longer!

Nice report and pics Jacques!!! Man!... that looks cold!!! You need to be a little more careful about putting your fingers in those Perches mouths like that!!!... that thing could've taken the end of your thumb off if he really wanted to!!!
-
Yeah, that looks pretty sloppy!... but it didn't look like it kept very many people from venturing out and trying their luck! A good pair of 10" high insulated Gore-Tex boots would've been the ticket there!

I troll for Crappie with my 55 lb. Wireless Motorguide and love it!!! I can steer, stop, start, and change speeds from anywhere in the boat with the foot pedal or key fob controller. I really like the facts that it is a 12V system that is very easy on the battery and the motor speeds are variable. I'm not sure how many clicks the motor speed takes from start to full speed, but it's a heck of a lot more than 5!

My deepest condolences Lew.

Hey!!! I was just kiddin' about all that stuff I wrote last night! I actually love Bass tournements and Tourney anglers! I also love the multi colored floaty ball cullin' system too!!! They're actually good for the Bass, if the Bass starts sinking in the live well... the little multi colored floaty balls act like a PFD and keep him from drowning!!! ... not really To answer your question aboot how I would weigh a fish Bassasin, I like to stick the scale hook in the fishes anal vent!... this keeps him from poopin' out any weght while I'm weighing him!!!... but boy do they squirm when you insert the hook!!! ... actually, weighing is soooo 70' style! A quick length and girth measurement is today's style!... I don't really trust spring or electronic scales, but if I'm curious about a fishes approximate weight, I weigh him in the net... net and all, sticking the scale hook into the net... not the fish!!! My net weighs 15 oz, and i deduct that from the total weight. Which brings us to another interesting aspect of Bass tourney's... ya ever notice how in the 70's and 80's it was "no nets allowed" lip'em only, but now they all use nets? I wonder how many tourney anglers had to get a treble in the hand or fall in the drink for that change to happen? ... and speaking of change! I wonder why tourney's and clubs have reduced the weigh in creel limit if keeping fish in a live well and culling is ok and doesn't hurt the fish eh??? Yes!... I have a general distaste for Bass tourney fishermen, but it was born out of encounters with them on the lake and their own antics!!! "Get out of my way! I'm fishing for money!!!", "Move off of this spot! I'm fishing for money! (it doesn't matter that I was there first)"... or my favorite nis when you're fishing a stretch of shore line they want to fish and they run that 21'boat and 225 hp motor between you and the bank, trying to make you leave! (are your faces red yet?) I know that all Bass tourney anglers aren't like this, but it has happened enough to leave a general malaise in me toward all Bass tourney fishermen!!! Remember! When you're fishing a tourney... you're not only setting an example for yourself, but for all Bass tourney fishermen!!! As for the original post to this thread... I still feel that the fish are better off without the tag culling system!
-
Be careful, have fun, catch big fish, and don't forget the Tanya in a bikini pics!!!
-
Roy and Cliff, I wouldn't aggravate the weatherman up there too much... he's liable to take a big snow dump on ya!!!
-
Excellent craftmanship Ric!!! Those lures a very purdy, and I'm sure the fish will love them! I enjoy lurecraft as well, it gets the creative juices flowing!!!
-
That's not entirely true. I've fed my fish a lot of minnows!
-
Have fun, be careful, catch big fish, and take lots of pics to those going out today!!!

Which brings us back to post release mortality, I never said a cull tag would kill a fish in the live well, I said the abrasion and slime removal, and following infection from it would kill the fish. This won't be immediate, it'll take weeks. Please read my previous posts before quoting me again! ... and like I said earlier, the cull tag system is nothing but laziness in the name of prize money with little or no reguard to the fish!!! IMO
-
Oh sure!!! Y'all keep up with the fish that you release 2, 3, 4 weeks after you release them??? Who cares what happens to them after the release... just as long as they don't die in the live well and we get our prize money!!! I know y'all are trying to justify what you do... but deep down inside you know it would be better for the fish not to cull tag it.
-
Like I said in my very first post to this thread... the fish is better off without it! The less you do to that fish, the better the chances are for his survival after his release!!!... y'all know that! If I should stoop to doing the cull tag thing, I would consider myself lazy with minimal respect for the fish... but that's just me eh!
-
... and what about abrasion, slime removal, and infection???... but who really cares about that when there's purse money to be had eh!
-
Do y'all not understand post release mortality??? Keep fresh water running into the live well, and no tags... keep the smallest one to the side by itself, you'll feel much better about yourself knowing you did the best you could!
-
No more than you are! ... wanna snuggle? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BiL-LAN8l1k...feature=related
-
The hook is momentary, the tag is not!!! The abrasion and infection I'm talking about is not the thing that will kill a fish in the live well and you know it!!! Can you say post release mortality???... sure!... I knew you could! I don't do tourney's or weigh ins because I don't want to get caught up in the whole fishin' for money/obnoxious bass tourney fisherman thing ... but think about it, what do you think that tourney angler cares more about?... that 14 inch Bass or that $50,000 purse? It's elementary when you stop for just one second to think about it.
-
That's the way you do it!!! Are y'all Bass tourney boys writtin' this stuff down???
-
Oh sure!... what's a little gill and lip abrasion leading to infection gonna do?... but who really cares when there's prize money to be had!!! Make it a double eh!!! Yes, fresh water is a must... but limiting slime removal and abrasions is very important too!!! Like I said... who cares if ya kill a few fish?.. as long as the prize money is there!!!
-
Don't pick on me too much Daddy-O!... or I'll post pics of flowers blooming and stuff growing!!! ... that always seems to bring y'all an load of snow!!! Hope you're having a great frozen weekend with the new young'un Pops!!!
-
That's like a sore Willy... ya just can't beat it!!! Real nice report and pics!!! Thanks for posting!!!
-
From what I've seen and heard, all the Maina folks are great people!!! Uhhhhhh, Bubba Art... I dunno if anyone has told you this or not, but you're not going to catch a Mucksie on an ol' Mackeral head in Catfish water!!! I'm sure Marc could learn you a thing or 3 though!!! ... then you and Roy could go catch Bullheads at night off the marina dock! btw Bill, I wear a size medium!!!
