  1. We thought of it as a company name but decided it was just too clumsy for the telephone receptionists. Peak has a nice easy cadence, doncha think? JF
  2. Some of us realtors have been accused of being kinda slippery in the past. JF
  3. I may never get to tournament fish but at least the name will be out there in my place. Just in case you can't read it for the glare I'm not sure it has much direct benefit for me (or the business) but I thought it might be kinda fun to at least get to ride along at the tourneys. Watch for me at the launches. JF
  4. We go to Mexico for January every year. My wife's contribution is to watch the air fares and get a deal. In Feb/Mar it was close to $1,000 for air. Recently it dropped a few hundred. She'll probably wait till Oct and get it for $400 or less. It's worked every year for us for the last 10 years or so. PS. Don't blame me if it doesn't work right. JF
  5. Jeez. I think I just had an instant occlusion. JF
  6. It sure is purdy. JF
  7. Probably the biggest factor, but I don't think I've ever seen Hal Gill come thru like that for a sustained period. He was a rock on defence. And Gomez (and a few others) maintained the energy level to keep the speed up there. Mebbe speed only works for Ovy when he's the only speedster in the mix. He got poke checked more than I've ever seen before. In fact, Montreal back checked as well as any team I've seen in a while. When a Caps player would try to skate thru neutral ice with the puck as often as not it seemed a Hab would just catch him, lift his stick and take the puck. It was sure fun to watch. Now the next big question, can the Habs keep that energy level thru another fast series. I can't be any more surprised if they do but I'm not betting on them getting out of this next series. As much as it pains me to say it, those Habs put on one of the gutsiest performances I've seen in a long time and I've become a temporary fan for the rest of the playoffs. Naturally I'll be back in Blue when preseason starts again, and cheering for whichever of their platoons of goalies and d-men appears. I kinda felt sorry for Price at the end. It would have been nice if he could have had a little piece of the victory after all the abuse he's had thrown at him by the fans. From what I've seen of Habs fans over the years (only on tv) they're the most hypocritical pricks in the hockey fan world. All the love in the world for their team when they win but watch them turn on them if they're down 0-3 in the next round. While the rest of the hockey world will still be raving about the great job done by the Habs against the Caps their own fans will be booing them (even Halak) for not walking all over Sid and the Pens. Am I being too hard on Habby fans? Is anyone betting against Subban to be a regular next year? JF
  8. Jeez. Our local conservation authority won't let the local country club trim the grass down to water's edge to prtect the sanctity (or something) of the watercourse. So now our previously nicely trimmed creek shores are big ole shaggy messes that eat up golf balls galore. If one authority figgers mere trimming of weeds is a nono, how can another not see the potential for damage in totally screwing with the shoreline in your example? Methinks the owner might just know someone (or be someone) after all. Good try but I think you're seeing a little influence at play here. Might be something for the press to have some fun with after all if the other layers of bureaucracy all roll over as well. JF
  9. He's fine. He wears scuba gear to wade. It just looks kinda funny seeing the 13 footer with a hand attached sticking outa the creek. JF
  10. Why not just ignore it and let them suspend her licence or whatever they do. Might lead to even more entertaining stuff. JF
  11. I have never been a Sens or Habs fan but couldn't help cheering quietly (in the privacy of my own home, of course)for them both just because of the gutsy fight they've been putting up in the playoffs. After all, these are teams that were even beaten by my Lowly Leafs this year, the Habs on the last game of the year with their backs against the proverbial wall, so they must have dug really deep to deliver the way they have in playoffs. And the problem with playing way out there on the edge of your ability is that there's no room for error. So I gotta give the Sens a lot of credit for their playoff performance. They didn't cave. They just couldn't sustain the over achieving forever. These upstart teams have provided some great entertainment in the playoffs. Makes me wish Toronto had just gotten going a little bit sooner. JF
  12. Even if he can idle her down, the noise will probably chase away any fish within a half mile. Have you ever listened to a jet boat wind out on a flat lake? Friend of a friend used to have one with a big Ford in it up north. You could hear him fire it up miles away and then listen to every foot of the very quick trip up the lake. He used to let it out by the moonlight when the lake was really calm. That was spooky. Not real smart but we were young then, and unbreakable. JF JF
  13. When's the MinnKota go on? JF
  14. SEVENTY-NINE POINT SIX!!!!!!!!! When I grow up I'll stop being impressed with go-faster toys but for now I still love 'em. Byron'll be eating his heart out. Gotta stop by the store to needle him about that one. JF
  15. What do ya suppose the contents of your stomach would do to that egg if you could keep in them for a year. I suspect that stomach acid and enzymes are even more corrosive than the coke. JF
  16. Funny, but I don't really mind Pierre. I could live without his monsters, "top shelf", and a few other catchy little expressions he uses, but he catches a lot of little things in the play from his little hidey hole at ice level. My wife hates listening to him, but then she always leaves the game at 7:30 to watch Jeopardy so what does she know? JF
  17. Hockey would be more enjoyable if they even just got rid of that bombastic ass Cherry. And if i never hear "Holy mackinaw" again it will be too soon. I was just commenting to my wife last night that if you were listening to the game on the radio with these same announcers it would look a lot different in your head that what I was seeing on tv. They make so many blunders and miscalls that are just ignored. Of course that could describe the refs too. Is the game getting too fast for them all? JF
  18. As the non-boater where do you stow a big box on a bass boat? You're probably also carrying a few rods to park where they're handy. JF
  19. Your way is probably the only way it will ever work - small groups of responsible adults (adults both chronologically and emotionally) observing and reporting violations. I doubt the gov't is prepared to run the risk of formally authorizing untrained and unequipped volunteers to do the enforcement work. The risks for the gov't and the individuals are too high. But as long as you don't run afoul of any laws yourselves and stay safe then they might just appreciate the effort. The problem is the hothead vigilante types who can't stop at simple observation and reporting. They decide that when the LEO's don't respond to their satisfaction they should then also administer the judgment and punishment (all for a good cause, mind you) themselves. But then they start liking that part too well. The next thing you know the law enforcement people are having to deal with the folks who set out to back them up. I can see a small group of folks like you accomplishing something worthwhile and only hope that you don't get caught up in some kind of backlash from the lawbreakers. That's not unheard of and you guys won't have the flakjackets or the laws to use to protect yourselves. I sincerely hope you can make even a small mark with your efforts and stay safe in the process. It may set an example for the rest of us to start doing a little more, like just getting some pictures of the the miscreants and their vehicles and turning them in. Eventually the word will get around and the poacher types will get a little less cocky and open about their activities when they can never be sure if they're being recorded and reported. JF
  20. I'll have to take yer word for that. Never got to try it. Probably won't now. JF
  21. Seems to me it would make more sense if you don't like your team any more to quit paying the exorbitant ticket prices instead. I'll go back to my marriage analogy. Once you start booing and mocking your spouse perhaps that's the time to call it quits and find a new love who better measures up to your demanding standards. Toronto fans are loyal. They just keep cheering for the old shoe and revel in the small improvements. One day the Leafs will get to the top again and their fans will be the happiest people in the hockey world. All loyal fans deserve success but none more than the Toronto fans. JF
  22. As long as the hometown crowd stays behind them. Habs fans can be kinda fickle. It doesn't pay to make one mistake in front of them. That brings out the boobirds. I feel sorry for the Habs players sometimes. Montreal could learn a lot about fan loyalty from Toronto but that'll never happen. JF
  23. That was a helluva game to watch, even when you don't really care who wins. I guess that's the test of quality hockey though, huh? I've been a Leafs fan too long to switch loyalty to the Habs just cuz Toronto's out, but I really can't stand Ovechkin and his crap. He's a great player, one of the best I've ever watched, but he's a jackass in my books. He's one of the guys i enjoy seeing stumble. JF
  24. That's a coincidence. There seems to be a few folks here who gag just at the mention of the leafs. JF
  25. I didn't see it that way. I thought the caps just finally got their act kinda together. The way the refs were calling things that game was bound to be topsy turvy anyway. I realize there's a lot to watch for the refs and linesmen but they really should concentrate on the game part of the scenery. Some of those calls sure looked like "oopsy" calls, the kind they make to compensate for a blown call earlier. Like the one they missed that would have stopped the play just before Montreal got called and the caps scored in the delay. Then the Caps were given a Bull penalty right after that. I didn't think it quite made up for the goal though. Missed calls are to be expected but I hate when they affect the outcome of the game. JF
