The backpacking trail is made up of 3 loops, designed for hiking not portaging and you can camp at designated lakes. The first lake MapleLeaf Lake is about a 4.4 km hike from the parking lot, I know people have caught splake from shore in the spring not sure about now. I have never stayed at Killarney Lodge, only ever camped in Algonquin. If you are up for a hike you can try the Western Uplands Backpacking trail and fish Maple Leaf Lake, it is stocked with Splake, you can also try Heron lake for Splake its close to Hwy 60.

Amazing report Drew !!!! love your writing style ... started reading it on my lunch , couldn’t stop so went home and took the afternoon off to finish it in peace ... lol My dad used to take me out to the local creeks many many years ago and we would catch small specks . Wish we could have done a trip like that when he was younger before he passed. Your story telling is always fun to read...

like anything you have to find the folks that know what they are doing and you can tell they have put in their time, there are lot of guys with Youtube channels that have way more credibility as anglers than some of those on TV ...

I can’t understand how the networks still get sponsors for those shows ... especially Fish TV... some of the best fishing videos are on youtube channels... way more informative and in many ways filmed better ...
