I am in the same situation, need new batteries for my trolling motor, I have had a number of nautilus batteries over the last few years and I think that they stink, I have always taken them out, toppped up when needed and trickled charged a couple times over winter, and I can never seem to get more than 3 years out of a battery, often less and I lost my receipts...doh.... I would love to be in Lews situation with battery's going on close to 10 years, Last time this was brought up, someone mentioned acme battery in Hamilton and they sell GNB (great northern battery), think I am gonna give those a whirl, as I don't want to splurge 200 on an optima... but I could definetly be persuaded...

All this talk and combined with the Outdoor Canada article on all the shows, besides personal opinion, what is the public opinion on the fishing shows, as in who has the highest rated TV shows, the highest amount of weekly viewers? just a thought

Captivating story as always, you have a way with words, and a talent with flies -
I also like the dipseys for 20% off, have to talk the local shop first though,

I agree, great time to get out in February and dream of the soft water for $10, as I made it to the Salmon Seminar, which the 3 hours of it seemed to fly by, Yvan, Vito and Crew did a great job, I thought there were a few deals to be had as well, Spin Doctors with new colors available, 3/ $30 is pretty decent, as well as a few deals on the flies to match, Picked up a speed, an Temp Probe, the Depth Raider from Grimbsy Tackel for a little over 4 bills, which was by far the best price I came across, in looking for last couple of weeks, Not as many booths as previous years, but more boats to drool over and nice pick up by the way, hope you enjoy it

Ah well, that shell's gas price was always 6-7 cents higher than anybody else, drove me nuts, it's a shame about the lcbo though......

I fished Lake Ontario and Erie mostly, for salmon I ran max 20ft, usually 10 and for Erie eyes, I've had good success with short leads of less than 5 ft with a harness, I figure depth control is the key, so I can corelate the arches to my specific depth, For suspended pike, My biggest this year was 12lbs fishing 40 ft of water down 25, with the a black pancake doctored up with some hologram tape and a five foot lead to a rapala j13, Trial and error I guess.

I am heading down with some friends to Myrtle beach justt after Christmas around New Years, and was thinking of trying to get in a little r and r in.... reels and rods.....I was wondering if anyone knows of a good charter or has had a good experience, 3-4 people would be fishing and looking for something thats not crazy expensive, and ideally looking for something off shore, not bass, any suggestions?

Awesome post, I get right into your stories, almost feel as though I'm there, curious what profession do you trade there?

I had the asme thing with my yamaha, The yammy has a flush port on the side of it to flush the motor, so the hose connects right to the motor, after a flush, seemed to be all good again, and I just changed the impeller,

I was thinking of trying the dipsey, worm combo 8 foot lead, and riggers, same setup as Erie, with boards added with deep body bait divers, I agree with Clampit and depth control is paramount, which I think can be best achieved with riggers and dipseys as opposed to adding weight.

With all the talk of Quinte, and hoping to get out there myself yet this fall, After Gerrits post of using jigs, got me wondering why all the trolling with bodybaits and does anyone use worm harnesses? Fish Erie the odd time and harnesses generally outproduce the body baits, Same forage base for the "eyes", as i I troll trying to find the schools of baitfish in Erie, any thoughts or has anyone tried the worms?

Where would you live if you could live anywhere
moemoe replied to grt1's topic in General Discussion
I'd put a vote in for Barrie, Short jaunt to Georgian bay, close to TO if you need it, North Shore of Lake O about an hour, kawartha's just over an hour and it's right on lake Simcoe, I lived in the north end of Barrie for 3 years, loved it, always thought the north end anyways, had a small town feel to it, with all the perks of a big city -
My wife went to school there 2 years ago, and I was in the same situation, I think a good place to start would be Riverside Marina, which is near Lauzon and riverside, being on the tecumseh side of lauzon, The boats are usually out of the marina by this time, and try right at the marina mouths where it meets the current, Hope this helps

Would you rent a prospector tent vs a cottage?
moemoe replied to irishfield's topic in General Discussion
"During July & August a tent is much cooler at night than most cabins. Cabins hold heat" Wouldn't that be the opposite for the day, wouldnot a tent be a cooker in the day time? -
Nice carp! Gotta luv the scenery from the water

I should have been more specific, I want a versitile reel yes, but I have a number of spinning rods, downrigger rigger rods for the specific needs, ie jigging for walleye, but I do not have any baitcasters. So I was hoping to start with a quality, but versitile reel, so really yes it would be used for pike/musky and throwing some of the non-finesse bass baits, and a spare trolling rod for up at the cottage. Any thoughts on the quantumn energy? Anyone think it would have a problem with heavier baits? http://cgi.ebay.com/QUANTUM-ENERGY-PT-E-76...bayphotohosting
-
I was suprised how many mentioned abu, never really thought about them, I feel that am partial to trying the quantumn as i have an energy spinning combo and it's been great, but I have heard lots of the durability of the calcutta, curious why people would say a 400 is to big though? How can a reel be to big? when really as long as the drag is smooth who cares about the extra line capacity, but that's just a guess

I think that a tent would be a great getaway to go with the guys for a serious fishing/aluminum recycling trip, and would probably prefer it to a cottage, but could I convince my wife? Probably not..... -
Question for you all, my wife says she'll pay for a new reel for my b-day and I want I new baitcaster, what would you recommed? to be used for all round fishing, bass, pike, walleye and the odd time casting for some muskies. I was thinking about either a shimano calcutta 400, or a quantumn energy 760, Curious what everyone else thinks, Thanks Moe
