  1. Another fantastic report. I absolutely look forward to your next. Those sea run brookies are very silver. I imagine as sea run fish they have a little more fight to them than residents do.
  2. Make sure you bring bug jackets and plenty of deet. Im predicting a bumber crop of blackflies this year.
  3. Holy Mother of esoxids. Thats a very nice pike . Nice shovelhead!!
  4. Very nice fish, sounds like a good time
  5. Crap that sucks. My thoughts are with the families hope they can remain strong.
  6. I like the fines but the ban on having a fishing licence thats about as effective as the ban on drunk drivers not being able to have a drivers licence. In other words not effective at all unless they are checked for them and with the amount of CO.s out there what do you think the chances are. How many times do you think they did this before they were actually caught?
  7. Yes god knows Im lucky if I hook up 25% of the time on topwaters. Sure gets the heart going though!!
  8. Um I did doesnt sat anything about inflateable canoes. Someone here is off his meds.
  9. Were did I say anything about an inflateable canoe? I use a 17ft royalx dagger and she glides across the lake no matter the wind.
  10. I havent wasted a single cent. I get tons of use out of them and they enable me to fish water that no one else gets to fish.Ive only bought two. You couldnt carry a boat like that to the places I fish. And seeing how Im fishing early spring brook trout in water ranging from 38-60 degrees Im quite content to be wearing waders. Any place I could take one of those boats that you picture Id just use my canoe. During the summer I only fish musky so Im generally in shorts and t-shirt.
  11. Ive caught plenty of fish on the opener on JackPots and Docs. The only two types of baits I really use that week are topwaters and bulging bucktails.
  12. I have been using float tubes since the late 80's. You cant beat them for back lake fishing. I currently use a U-Tube but started with the donut style. Personally Id never use a kick boat because it would defeat the purpose for me. I'm looking for a super light weight alternative to a canoe. Something I can put in my back back along with my sleeping bag and food and tent. You could never do that with kick boats and pontoon boats. Also float tubes are cheap now compared to when I had my first one. Which was a donut style and I think I paid 300 US for it.
  13. Great report. Glad everyone had such a good time
  14. It was probably just rock salt. I was hit two or three times when I was a young poacher. Hurts like hell and let me tell you never visited those ponds again.
  15. Yup happens all the time on the lower part of Huron Tribs. Get some real hawgs to comin in from the lake.
  16. They are an invasive species that harms our native fishery while you might enjoy fishing for them. Im all for eredicating them by any means possible.
  17. Part two the best part Stomach contents. In the top of the pic is a parttly digested 3" minnow looks like a dace out of one fish amd the other blob is probably around 50 or so hendrickson nymphs Prep the fish,a dredging in flour, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes,a egg bath and then coated in a combo of bread crumbs and fresh chives from the garden Dinner with a side salad of baby spinach, red onions, red peppers and pepperocinni in a lemon juice/olive oil and lemon zest dressing
  18. My buddy who turned 40 today cant swim and hes been fishing hardcore with me for half his life. He's never on the water without a lifejacket.
  19. Well Today was my best buds 40th birthday. So we took the day off to pursue our favourte species.Black flies were out in full force today being real pest but fortunately only a small % were biting. There was a sparse hendrickson hatch going on but fish really werent moving to them so we left the fly rods in the Yukon and used mainly Panther Martins or dew worms. The day was more about trippin and hitting a lot of spots that we haven't hit in years. The day was beautiful but waters were very high and still remarkably cold for this time of the year.We caught quite a few fish and I ended up bringing two home for dinner for myself. The biggest fish that was caught was a 15" rainbow that I took on a PM in a heavy current run. The bugger slipped outta my hands and fell back into the river before I could kill it though so there is no picture. A vert we hadnt seen in a while. Brook trout water just looooks like it should have fish in it. Its so clear and beautiful The Halloween vert that I mentioned in another thread with a super stealthy approach Happy Bday Bud enjoy those lovely brookies One that I kept for dinner That was typical of most of the fish that we caught coming in at 11" All in all it was a great day finished off with a cold one on the tailgate. We are getting older though and after all that walking and bushwacking Im ready for bed.
  20. I have a little spot like that the colours are absolutely beautiful. We call them halloween brookies because of the orange colours here is a pick of one And Im not even going to be secretive and black out the background this is what they come out of Those colours are so beautiful on your fish. Easy to see how one can become a dedicated brook trout angler.
  21. For open water Im basically using it as a depth finder unless Im trolling in which case Im using it to look for bait. But on the ice I carefully adjust the settings until I can pick up my lure/bait and no clutter. Then fishing becomes a video game. I can generally watch the fish approach my bait pixel by pixel. This really keeps your attentioned focused and is quite rewarding. Ive watched trout come in on the graph that basicall thickene the bottom by one pixel and called the hit, suspended crappie where you have to distinct lines across the graph with the bottom one blipping up to merge with the top one. But I'll never forget being on lake temagami watching my buddies little cleo jig up and down, the entire screen goes black WHAM 20 lb laker.
