  1. I prefer Doc's to jackpots although Ive caught fish on both. The funnest way to see musky but the hook up percentage is still pretty low.
  2. And I thought the road from Manicougan to Labrador City was bad.
  3. My dream ice fishing trip would be to do one ive already done. Seven days up at Temagami. Bunch of buddies. Seven different lakes. Caught every species available. Lakers, Whitefish, Herring, Walleye, Pike, Brook Trout and Ling. It was a new adventure everyday and was the best ice fishing trip Ive ever done.
  4. First time at BOQ ice fishing with my buddy. Hadnt had a nibble all day. Around two oclock I go out to water the horse. When im done and coming back to the hut I notice that its pretty high up off the ice. I slowly crawl under the ice reach out and quickly grab my buddies line. He's all excited and screaming about a what a big fish he has on and then I pop my head into his hole and go boo. After he calms down some hes so increibly dissappointed that it wasnt a fish. Nother time at Virginia Beach I took a bunch of novice Ice Fisherman from back home to try there luck perchin and pikein. We were all young lads and had been out hitting the wobbly pops quite hard the night before. For those who have fished a hut there before you can see the pike swim right into your whole including some pretty big fish. One guy Jim had passed out so I filled a four litre bottle of orange juice that we had drank with water. Tied it to his line and let it sink down into about 10 feet of water. Loosened his drag off all the way. Waited a few seconds and then everyone started yelling at him that he had a huge pike on. He wakes up and sets the hook and his rod buckles over and his drag is singing. Takes him about 30 seconds to figure out he had been duped but the other 4 of us had a great time of it and still chuckle over it 20 yrs later.
  5. Thats the method(except we dont salt them just use one or two every hour or so out of the bucket) we use and then we jig, jig, jig,. Watched it all on the accu view and it sure brought loads of whitefish in.
  6. Does Norval have cold enough water to prevent anchor ice and allow survival of brown trout parr? I'm thinking it might isnt that where they plant the atlantics as well.
  7. It all fine that you let it go. Very nice ethics. But if she was dripping loose there is no way she is going to spawn successfully. She has to make it at least up to the Inglewood area to find gravel that wont develop anchor ice and have cool enough water for her progeny to survive their first summer. In this cold water I doubt that she tries to get over the Streetsville fishway.
  8. Sorry nothing is worse than death ask his victim's families.
  9. Dont over look feral dogs either they are a problem along the Grand river in the Kitchener area and often kill deer.
  10. He's laughing now- free education, three square, excellent medical care. Seems like a fair trade for around 50+ lives. Our justice system is a joke.
  11. This is the coolest idea for a stringed instrument ever.
  12. Nice fish. Sucks that it came from the Kawarthas though thats bad news.
  13. Well we got up to Simcoe pretty late on Friday by the time we launched it was 3:30pm. Marked lots of fish out in 23 -27 ft of water but the winds were pretty high and boat control and feeling hits from the perch was very tough. Bottom line we got skunked out of Lefroy. Water temp was 51 at the surface. We packed things up and headed to Haliburton to fish Musky on the Saturday. Pizza and beer in our hotel room and up in the morning eager to boat some lunge. Water temp to start was a cool 39 degrees. The boat was froze to the trailer and I was worried for a second that it was going to follow the trailer down the launch but it eventually floated free. Like ccmt we found ice around the shallow edges of the lake. We cast jerk baits all morning but had no action which is very strange for Head Lake. Around 12.30 water temps had increased to 42 degrees and we had a follow just off the mouth of the Drag River by the biggest Musky we have ever seen in Head, a mid 40's fish. Half an hour later my buddy switches to a lime green Suick that I found years ago on a backwoods trip(and gave to him)(YW) and has been a killer bait for him ever since. IN the far northwest part of the lake he gets amid to high thirties fish on but eventually the fish shakes loose at boatside. Not three cast later he gets another hit. After a short but acrobatic fight we get the fish boatside only to discover one of the trebles is in the eye socket. We do manage to get it out pretty quick but unfortunately blood was spilt. Just a small guy but no actually eye tissue damage that we can see a quick photo and a strong release That was it for the day pretty tough fishing for that lake but still managed to get at least one more musky in the boat this year.
  14. Ive caught a lot of atlantics out east both sea run and landlocked quananiche. Another characteristic to look for a instead of brown spots on the body are there brown x's . If there was brown x's it might have been an atlantic. Color varies with age of this fish. Small "parr," older young salmon, have 8 to 11 pigmented bars, or "parr marks," along each side of their body, alternating with a single row of red spots along the lateral line. These markings are lost when the "smolt" age is reached. Salmon in the sea are silvery on the sides and belly, while the back varies with shades of brown, green, and blue. Atlantic salmon also have numerous black spots, usually "X"-shaped and scattered around the body. When spawning, both sexes take on an overall bronze-purple coloration and may acquire reddish spots on the head and body. After spawning, the "kelts" are so dark in color that these fish are also called "black salmon" Carpstarter Browns are legal on Big Creek up to Delhi until Dec 31 and up to Lyndon all year. A lot of other tribs in that area have extended seasons as well.
  15. I was lucky enough to attend a Musky Fishing Seminar by Mike. The guy really knows his stuff. I feeel very privledge because I understand he doesn't do them to much anymore. We had him speak at our KW MCI club meeting and there was guys there from the states and Quebec just to hear him talk.
  16. Gotta agre with brown trout here Lots of them stocked in Eire on the US side plus resident populations in Lynn,Big and Otter. Ive caught a lot in Big while steelheading.
  17. When in June it makes a lot of difference. If its early june if you go to far north you'll run into blackflies not sure if I'd appreciate that on a honeymoon. If its late june that might open up bass fishing for you otherwise it would be closed. For now I'll recommend Sparrow Lake near Orillia. Lots of pike and plenty of places to stay.
  18. Well I like what I hear about spawning habitat. Heres hoping we see some returns on the project. Not to sound like a glass is half empty person but did anyone ask when was the earlest we could expect to see any results.
  19. Thanks Jon I would like to see that video
  20. Yep IM going with tiger musky. But when I was fishing Labrador a few years ago there was this little tributary stream on a lake that was loaded with 6-8 inch brook trout. There was a huge drop off where the stream entered the lake and we would cast brook trout pattern streamers there and nail pike all day long. They'd just sit there waiting for the trout to wash out into the lake.
