  1. Some nice shots there Dano! Where are you near Orangeville? I lived there for almost 30 years......various places......kinda miss it but its a lot different now since I left (2003). Bill
  2. Forget the horseshoes....I think it was the whole horse.......
  3. All depends on what you consider high end.......if you are talking best buy and future shop high end.....well.....they arent even high low end. Last year I went to purchase new audio equipment......and all the affordable stuff I listened to did not compare to the 25 year old mid fi Sansui system I got in my late teens. That system cost me almost $3000 back then, and it was by no means hi end. Unless you spend $5000 for a Bryston 875HT or something along those lines, well.....you arent getting your moneys worth IMO. And yes....you CAN tell the difference. My wife could hear the difference between her 5 year old JVC $1200 unit, and my 25 year old middle of the road unit. So what did I buy? Believe it or not I scoured Epray for another 25 year old Sansui, though a higher end unit at the time. And you can tell the difference between the 2 25 year old units.....in fact the differences are quite stark even though they are from a similar era. All boils down to how much money a manufacturer wants to spend on the technology, and these days, its not much.....most of the affordable audio nowadays lacks any tonal warmth of the equipment of yesteryear. And if you want to go one step further and talk Vaccum tubes thats a different beast altogether......hit one of the rooms at Bay Bloor radio one day and see.....you will be amazed. And since I am in a very noisy environment 9 hours a day (Steel fabrication shop and yes, I wear hearing protection 29dB's worth LOL) and I can still tell the difference, I would LOVE to see the what the difference is if my ears were good LOL Like I said......all boils down to the outlay the manufacturer wants to put into manufacturing and components.....not very often you see equipment thats manufactured like this any more: Not just applicable to A/V stuff either.....seems there is an epidemic of 'throw away' stuff any more.....drives me nuts!! Anyway.....sorry for the rant :blahblah1: ......just wanted to add my 2 cents worth.......cant help out much in the video department, though the 33 inch Sony CRT we bought last year is fantastic, even if it does weigh 175 pounds and we almost couldnt get it through the door Bill
  4. I think they have the same people doing the ordering that CTC does...... Bill
  5. Its 20% up until today....I guess a pre-christmas thing. However....the 7% has now gone up to 10% from now on.......the place on the back of my card that read 7% has been crossed off in pen and written over with 10. Either one is ok with me.....I already got my membership fee back, and I only joined last Thursday LOL Mike.....I didnt notice the price on the 301......only looked at the 200. The salesman told me that Shimano had also dropped their prices to the dealers in keeping with the Candian/US dollar situation.......Had he not mentioned all of this I would be the proud owner of an Citica......which is still ok..... Either way it sounds like you got a great deal too!! WTG! Bill
  6. mike.....when did you buy it? Reason I ask is that Shimano has a rebate on now on Curado ($50), Citica ($30) and Cruxis ($20). Started Dec 17 and runs till April 30 2008. I believe its only good for stuff bought in Canada though. I bought a Curado 200 DHSV from Lebaron for $182.35 (with the 20% club member discount) and then the $50 back from Shimano, brings it down to $132.35 before taxes.......was going to buy a Citica until the guy told me about the rebate. I think its safe to say one would be hard pressed to find a Curado for that price..... LeBarons club deal ends tomorrow though.....after that its only 10% off and no tax on Boxing day.... Not sure if I should have bought the DHSV or the DHV but have the DHSV for now...... A good deal in my books......and not meaning to poo poo on your deal.......no offense Bill
  7. Ok...I can see the 'workers' triangle sign being put there, but really....the speed limit sign has to be a bad joke no?? ßill
  8. 10 year old Ardbeg......I know its only 10 years but you will not be disappointed. If you had $11K to blow I know where you can get a bottle of 40 yr old Bowmore..... And although its not Scotch..... The Bheag (pronounced Chay Veck) is quite nice too All of the above mentioned too.....hard to go wrong if you dont mind spending $60-$100
  9. I think Howitzer might be a better description...least in my case I agree to a point......but when it comes to going into BPS I win every time, though even in BPS she gives me a good run for my money I agree with it being too commercial too.....Christmas certainly is not what it used to be. I think its a little different away from the GTA but here it seems that people have lost sight of what its all about (whatever your beliefs are). Bill
  10. TJ, Thanks for posting that.....the rabbit blew me away when it dove under the snow to escape, and just when you thought the Lynx had it....it popped up its head.......amazing video!! Bill
  11. None, because its not practical or cost efficient. Far too many stringers, formers, spars etc. Also with the newer planes anyway, carbon fibre cant be welded that I know of.....
  12. Awesome show! Will I watch it again? Most definitely! Best fishing show I have seen in a long time. Nice to see a real person do a fishing show.... But be warned....dont eat dinner or have anything to drink while watching.....you may have a mess or two to clean up!! Fantastic job Dave......cant wait for more!! Bill
  13. Ignore my last question about the switch Gerritt...and thanks for the info.....need to look into this FTA stuff. Dont know too much about it but it seems quite popular. At any rate, I just ordered WFN. According to the really nice woman I just spoke to, the switch is no longer needed, and I should have WFN back in 2 hours or less. I know my wife is not going to be too happy and there will probably be tug-of-wars over the remote now, but since I hardly watch TV to begin with I think its ok. I think though that she will watch it too, but perhaps not as much as I might want to Ok....bring on Dave Mercer!!!!! Is the form posted yet TJ?? Bill
  14. Will said switches work with the distressview stuff Gerrit? IIRC they wanted almost $90 for theirs..... Thanks for the info!! Bill
  15. It did on mine too. Before the free preview, I had called distressview to subscribe to WFN and they told me I needed to buy a piece of hardware (that they would refund me for later on. I asked why they couldnt just give it to me and told them that it sounded like a make work project for the accountants )....a switch or something. 419 did not show up before the preview. Then the free preview comes around and all of a sudden I can get WFN without having a switch. Now that its gone (the free preview) I dont have 419 any more ( whereas other subscription channels I dont have DO show up in the listing when I use the show all channels format). This leads me to believe that I STILL need to buy the switch, even though they can give it to me free for the preview without the switch :dunno: It makes no sense to me but I am not going to go through the aggro so I can give them extra money per month.....I dont get it.... So I guess I wont be seeing it....and second the "no purchase nessecary" option Bill
  16. ROFL.... We went into Lowes last year for the Bank of America 500 with a cooler full of Canadian beer and offered one to the guard at the gate. He was all ready to take one until he found out it was 5%....then he flat out politely said no and thanked us for offering. LOL
  17. Careful what you offer....you may be stuck with me! I cant find my DEI pictures otherwise Id post a couple.... Incidentally......to keep a fishing note in the thread......Talked to my friends in Mooresville yesterday and fishing in Lake Norman is not. Because of the drought this year the lake is down 8 feet......and that cant be good for anyones bottom end, or the fish, and especially the nuclear plant.... Bill
  18. We take the I-79/77 route when we go to Mooresville/Charlotte. If you go that way, unless you want to see Charlston...take the Rout 19 cutoff at exit 57 in West Virginia. Some really nice scenery in there and you go over the worlds highest arch bridge across the New river and there is a neat visitor center on the north side of the bridge. Saves you some time by avoiding Charleston, and you end up on I-77 in Virginia. If you have time, there are the race shops in Mooresville.....got off on route 150....if you want to go to DEI go left and drive till you see Route 3 (there is a liquor store on the corner) and make a right (south).......check out the Mooresville police cars on your right (done up with checkered flags) keep on route 3 (no surprised why its called that) and it will eventually lead you to DEI. You can keep going this way to Concord (and to Roush and Hendrick, Chip Ganassi Racing etc) with a couple of turns on different roads. If you make a right at the 150 in Mooresville and go towards the "Race City USA" watertower, I think if you make the first left you come to (If you go passed the Lowes store you have gone too far) and go down there , I think its called Rolling Hill road, there is all kinds of race shops interspersed in there, mostly Busch teams but I think there is a couple of cup teams in there too. All kinds of neat stuff round there to see....If you need a tourguide I would be happy to oblige  I am jealous!!! I hope you have a great time!!!!! Bill
  19. Cigars..... I enjoy a nice Cohiba or a Nat Sherman once in while.... Prefer to smoke a pipe, preferably a Peterson's (Kildare or Petersons system premium 314) loaded with either Frog Morton or Sleepy Hollow..... Only thing better than a pipe while fishing, is a pipe (or cigar) with a dram of 10 year old Ardbeg or 15 year old Bruichladdich Needless to say the last two only happen once in a while (and not in a boat or the house).. LOL I remember I think it was W5 that did a story on Cuban CIgars, and found that even some of the cigars bought right from the manufacturer in Cuba were knockoffs......
  20. WTG Guys!!! I launched for the first time at the marina in Port Perry.......in retrospect I would have gone somewhere else.....but I didnt know anywhere else at the time......so believe me when I say I felt your anxiety LOL Oh......and the plug deal.....I have done that too.....even after my wife asking me if the plug was in, and even after looking at my little key float thingie that has "IS THE PLUG IN??" written on it! Congrats and hope there is many more! Bill
  21. Here is mine..... 2007 Tracker Super Guide V16 w/ Merc 50 elpto Bill
  22. "Skunk Bait" Given the luck I have had since I got it earlier this year Bill
  23. Hiya, If I remember correctly, there is such a thing as a 'poor man's patent' (its an old term ), whereby you include all of the documentation for the design, etc etc, and pop it in an envelope and send it to yourself via registered mail. Once you receive the mail, retain it unopened until proper patents can be applied for. Not sure of its legality but from what I understand it does offer some protection.......might try googling this but at least its a start. Hope this helps...... Bill
