  1. We're still having fun chasing walleyes around on Lac Seul here in Northwestern Ontario. This time of year we're getting fish in 20-35 FOW. Mornings have been best for us and jigging is outproducing set lines 3:1. My buddy Graham with one from his set line. Pretty good numbers of fish but we didn't see one over 22" the last 2 days. I know I keep saying this but it's getting close to trout time. Hopefully by the weekend we'll get out after them. Tight lines all, Ben
  2. I'm a fishing guide in NW Ontario and have been trying to break into the outdoor writing market as well. Every time I go fishing I tell my wife "it's research".
  3. Same as Steve - Stradic 1000's. They get used 12 months a year.
  4. haha, guilty Gramace. That's me. Thanks for the kind words. I haven't even seen it yet
  5. Sorry to hear this news Lew. My condolences to you and your family.
  6. Thanks for the report Aaron. Some nice fish there for sure. Don't think I've ever seen anyone 'lip' a lake trout before.
  7. I bought a snowmobile instead! Fixed all my problems. IMO a snowmobile and a portable flip style hut are the ultimate in ice fishing mobility and convenience.
  8. nice fish. must have been fun to be on em for a few hours.
  9. Sinker nailed it. If you're on foot, be very aware of the weight of what you're planning on getting. I have a fish trap guide and loaded with gear it's a chore to tow on foot if the snow is deeper then a few inches.
  10. It is the same fish. Just 2 different photo's stitched together.
  11. Good day all in all Mike, even with the long hours. I knew sam from trapshooting several years back. Great guy and definitely worth checking out his store. Jigging rap has been good to me as well, tipped with a minnow. Nice to see your stradic getting double duty on the ice as well. My 1000 size stradics get used all year long. Great reel. Glad to hear the CO gave you a break in the end. That would have been a hard pill to swallow for sure. Also nice to see you fishing walleye, although there are no pics of you with one.
  12. Thanks for the link. Great turn around time on that replica. I assume it's making the rounds at the shows this winter. Congrats again to Dale. Awesome fish!!
  13. If you were in Vermillion Bay, you were close. You can access Lac Seul from here in Sioux Lookout, from north of Dryden and from Ear Falls. The VB turn off goes up to Ear Falls. Let me know and I'd be happy to show you around or give you some info if you're going to a different part of the lake.
  14. Thanks for the kind words everyone. tknohpy - love the Hbird. This unit brought flasher technology out of the dark ages. Cudz - I'm not in the last picture. Both Graham with the same 28"er. 2 photo's are stitched together. Simon and Brkygetr - Really looking forward to Sunday and chasing lakers on Big Sandy. Solo - I'm tipping them. The walleye are not very aggressive at this time of the winter and you need some meat to get them to commit. Even with the meat, it's still a very light bite most of the time. Spiel - not far at all.... @ 2000kms. Let me know when you're arriving
  15. I've been spending a lot of time lately chasing walleye with my buddy Graham up here in Northwestern Ontario. We're putting a lot of km's on the sleds and a lot of holes in the ice. There's a spot on Lac Seul that we've been spending most of our time at over the last few days. It's a channel with some current and a relatively flat bottom in 27 FOW. The fish seem to use it as a highway, passing through fairly regularly. Jigs have been outproducing spoons for me lately. I'm really getting some confidence going with the horizontal jigging baits like the Foxee jig and the jigging rap. Set lines with small jigs and small minnows have taken the bigger fish, however. A couple nice ones for graham. 25" from last night. 28" first thing this morning. Fish fry tomorrow night then time to chase some lakers this weekend.
  16. I've also gone out with warren at Idle Tyme and he was great. He's a little further west then the calander crowd on a spot called Deep Water Point. Always had pretty good action there too.
  17. Jocelyn is a great guy and his shop is full of good stuff. I've bought a lot of things from him and whenever I'm in the area I stop by to say hello.
  18. Too cool man. Workin for your turns and hitting some fish, can't beat that. Life in BC is good, at times I miss it, the skiing especially.
  19. I always like 1/8th oz glow jig head on Nipissing. I fished 30' a lot for walleye this time of year there too. Found that jigging, rather then set lines, got more walleye.
  20. Is that a chubby darter Wayne? I caught a whitie on one today.
  21. Some real nice fish there. Thanks for taking the time to put those up.
  22. Nice fish Sinker. I guess the auger decided where the fish would be. Hard to ignore advice like that.
  23. So far mine has performed well as a 'light duty' muskie reel. Bucktails and topwater. That's a great price too.
  24. Flasher. Good luck using a camera fishing 80 fow for trout. You'd be wrapped around the cable in no time. Camera would be fun for pannies but get a flasher first. Flasher is a tool, camera is a luxury.
  25. Research that motor. We had 1 at the lodge where I worked and for 2 years it was nothing but problems. Our 90's were almost flawless but that 115 was a bugger. I heard someone else say the same thing one time too about that 115. At least ask the owner for the maintenance history to see if he's had to have it in the shop a lot. Just an FYI and I didn't want to rain on your parade but when you're spending that much $$$ you want to cover all your bases. Odds are it works well though. Good luck.
