I'm still staring down an 8" hole in the ice up here. 3' of ice actually. Here's some pics from the weekend. Lac Seul walleye and pike. When 1 or 2 minnows just isn't enough. Yesterday we hit up a laker lake for a couple hours. I got the only 2 lake trout and I'm certain that the only reason I did was because I had a flasher. White tube jigs took both fish over 45 FOW. It's an easy spot close to town that you can drive and walk out to on Big Vermillion Lake. Same fish, close up.

Left hand on the tiller always for me. Don't think I've ever seen anyone drive one the other way.

Personally I've never fished dead bait for pike in open water. Maybe really early in the year when they are lethargic immediately after spawning. I prefer to cast or troll and cover some water. Pike are very aggressive and will hit almost anything cruising through the water column. Spinner baits are deadly, both kinds but I prefer inline (eg Mepps). Braided (no stretch) line, as other have mentioned, is key. Don't kid yourself though, use a leader as pike can cut through even 50lb braid no problem. I've caught (and lost) hundreds of pike while jigging walleye with a jig/minnow. Sometimes you get lucky and the jig sits outside of their mouth, the rest of the time you're retying. Good luck. Oh yeah - find a weed bed, you'll find pike - they love the weeds.

Bingo dave. Standing vs. sitting in the rain makes a huge difference for keeping dry in the mid-section. The BPS 100MPH bibs have a drainage system with a gore-tex flap behind the zipper.

I'm not sure of the technical differences. Are they both made of Gore-tex? I have the 100MPH bibs and love them. Most of the guys I guide with have the cabelas guide wear bibs and they leak in the crotch after about a month of hard use. You won't be disappointed with the 100MPH suit. Money well spent.

I know that I've had some great double header photographs when 2 nice fish were caught at the same time and both released. Also, guys use live wells (although not allowed on my lake, Lac Seul) to save a nice fish or 2 until they catch another for a photo op. You're right about one thing though, this post will generate some debate.

haha - that'd be fine with me I'm booking trips for this summer Thanks Mike. We were disappointed with the lack of big pike as well. Hopefully we'll time it better next year. Might still have a few tricks up my sleeve this year though. We'll see.

I have been searching on-line but was hoping someone would know of a place that has a large inventory of used trucks. I want to be able to go somewhere and see/drive multiple vehicles. There isn't that large of a selection up here really, certainly not in Sioux Lookout. Winnipeg is 5 hrs away and I'm going to be down south in April anyhow, so I thought I'd buy down there and drive it back up here. Maybe I'll start looking in Winnipeg?? hmmmm.

May in Vancouver also brings with it the opening of Yoga pants season. Head down to the sea-wall for your best viewing opportunities. The season carries a look but don't touch limitation.

I am going to be in Southern Ontario (London area) in April and plan to buy a used truck. I would be willing to travel within the Windsor to Toronto corridor to find one. Does anyone know of a place that has a good selection of used trucks? So far the best selection I've found is haldimand motors in Cayuga. I've searched autotrader but am hesitant about some of the dealers that advertise there. I'm looking for something in the 2003 to 2005 range, probably domestic because they are cheaper. Ford or GMC - not dodge. Without starting a fight, any info/insight would be appreciated. It needs to have extended cab, 4x4, and preferably long box. Any other advice is welcomed too. Thanks.

The bigger ones are actually pretty fun. They don't run like a pike but feel heavy and pump the rod a bit. Overall they come in pretty easy.

Fillet them and cut the meat into chunks. Boil chunks of meat for a few minutes in salted (pretty heavily) water. Dip boiled chunks of meat into melted butter. They don't call it poor mans lobster for nothing Heck, you can batter and deep fry them too.
