  1. I'm going to call Bombardier directly. Perhaps some of the $350 I was quoted goes to the dealership if you go through them for the letter?? I mean seriously, it's a letter printed on a piece of paper!!! The lady I talked to was even able to look up the VIN of my sled and tell me there are NO recalls!!
  2. that old muskie is a war pig... huge though!
  3. Wow, awesome fish and pics as always Mike. You earn every fish you catch and just make it look easy!!
  4. I am importing a sled from the US and one of the requirements is a Recall letter from the manufacturer. I contacted a ski-doo dealership and they informed me that the rules have recently changed and the letter must come directly from Bombardier and dealerships can't provide it anymore. Here's the kicker........ they charge $350 for the letter!!! In the end I probably won't save any money buying in the US, however the selection there makes it worthwhile compared to shopping in NW Ontario. If it didn't take me almost 20 hrs to drive to TO, I'd be going down there for a sled for sure. Good fishing everyone, ben
  5. Hey Roy, I guess I should have said the seat needs to be moved 8" to the starboard side of the boat. It is too close to the centre. They are definitely far enough forward. Tillers Unite!
  6. it is interesting you mentioned the position of the drivers chair in the Aluma..... that fact alone is/was my no.1 complaint with the alumacraft tiller. It should be moved about 8" back. Talk to a dealer about getting it repositioned.
  7. For me it's simple... I backtroll A LOT and you can't beat the precise boat control that comes with backtrolling a tiller. I can move fast along a break line or hold steady in a small area if I find a good school of fish. I like to stand when I fish and the one handed operation gives me a big advantage for multi-tasking in the boat and the livewell/graph are right there with me. The rest of the boat is wide open. Front trolling a tiller is easy too. Biggest downside for me is getting splashed at the back of the boat when driving through bigger waves.
  8. for a pure fishing boat I wouldn't have anything but a tiller. Backtrolling is a deadly technique for targeing a lot of different species with different presentations and you can't beat a tiller for backtrolling. I've run lund ProV tournament series tillers and alumacraft tournament series tillers both w/ 90 HP 4 stroke and the alumacraft wins hands down. They've got some awesome layouts in their tillers too. Happy shopping
  9. Nice buck, great rack on him. Congrats on your hunt. 300gr bullet... I'm not surprised he piled right up where he stood. lol. You hang em for 2 weeks eh!?! I was told 3-4 days is good. Not being critical, just wondering why you hang them so long? What does it do to the meat the longer they hang?
  10. I know some muskie guys up here who carry them to get big muskie baits out. Save 2 muskie lures and you've probably paid for the retriever.
  11. I agree, the people of this country spoke just 6 weeks ago!! They handed the liberals their most crushing defeat in decades and now Dion is going to be PM?!?!?! Makes me feel sick.
  12. just my .02 cents here.... The only Diawa reel I ever owned didn't last me a month of guiding/fishing every day with it. The bail failed and I even had it repaird only to have it fail again in short order. Could have been a fluke but it was enough to put me off Diawa. I am a shameless shimano snob.
  13. I just bought one of the new Hummingbird flashers. Same price as Vex, just thought I'd try something new/different. Also like the digital depth reading. Will give a report after I put it through a season's worth of work.
  14. A huge congratulations to the lucky angler. Fish of a lifetime, and you released it. Congrats on all accounts!
  15. Good to hear Raf. Can't wait to beat on our gear this summer when you guys come up to Lac Seul to chase muskies.
  16. How true. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If they had have killed it they would take as much or more crap for that. Tough situation. I'd just like to see a picture of a big muskie. Congrats to who ever caught this fish. Ben
  17. I also bought a 301 Curado, low profile 6.2:1, for casting bucktails and topwater. I think there is a lot of skepticism about a low profile muskie reel but I'm going to give it a whirl. I believe this topic specifically has been discussed here on the OFC in the past and Pete Maina said he'd put one through its paces and it stood up. Time will tell.
  18. The video picture report set to music is definitely awesome!! Nicely done and congrats on a fantastic year!!
  19. I agree, ice fishing line is a gimmick. Use trilene XT and you'll be fine all winter. I use a few of my 'soft water' reels during the winter for ice fishing. Specifically the shimano stradic 1000 size reel is one of my 'double duty' work horses, getting used 12 months a year. Buyer beware when it comes to the cheapo ice fishing reels that come in combo's at CT etc. The drags can be terrible and the line capacity is usually low - something to think about if you plan on targeting lakers/whities or other deep water species.
  20. Good fishin there Rich! Lots of fish and big ones too. Love the cats and big carp!!
  21. Awesome muskies Lew!! I guess when you've caught 1000's of them pictures aren't as important! As long as you keep fishing it doesn't matter if you bring the camera or not
  22. Good luck Rick. You can get through this for sure.
  23. good advice from jeffw. you can also run a compression test and check that all the bells/whistles like handle bar heaters, reverse etc. all work. Ask for proof of service history as well. you don't want to get burned due to your sense of urgency to buy. It is true that good deals don't last long though. Just make sure it is the right sled for you.
