  1. Actually our license fees go to the MNR SPF. Has been that way since 1995. All fines collected via resource violations also go to the fund. http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/en/Business/LetsF...L02_166024.html I work for the OLG..we have lots of our own cash...lol.
  2. Zero option added. Please explain your choices. All license fees do go to the MNR. Has been that way for a long time. The MNR used to be the biggest Ministry in the province. It is now a Junior Ministry. I think we have an obligation that goes with our right. The only other thing is that anglers are not the only people enjoying the natural resources but pay the lions share of protection. We need everyone pitching in. I like the salmon tag idea. Newfoundland does ( or did ) this. I remember as a kid having a newfoundland tag and sticking it on a chinny in the lower Niagara and releasing the fish. We thought it was funny...see someone catch a fish with a NFLD catch tag on it. And to DAWG..it is a put and take fishery, but it has the potential to be somewhat self sustaining as waterways improve. Not only that but we have to protect it to protect the integrity of the sport.
  3. Well, if he means we have no history of colonizing OTHER countries, yes that is true. But we did colonialize Canada..but it wasn't Canada then..soooo... I guess he is technically right.
  4. This is going to be the final thread on the salmon fishing fiasco we see each year on Lake Ontario tribs. People snag, people are idiots...we know, we get it. The entire problem boils down to resources..specifically Conservation Officers. Without enforcement, rules are useless. But without the cash we cannot increase enforcement. We cannot have it both ways. We have not seen an increase in license fees in as many years as I can remember. It is long over due. How much more would you pay if all the cash went to more officers and more resource conservation and protection? Just for the sake of the discussion assume all the cash goes to the SPF and is above and beyond current financing levels. There are more than a million anglers licensed in Ontario....every dollar means one million more. Each million means about 7 more officers, give or take. Are you ready to put your money where you mouth is?? Increasing resident licenses would also allow us to reduce non-resident fees and help the north in tourism. Or if you have a better reasonable idea, put it forward.
  5. If you don't like the way the mods run the site, there is a little red button on the top of your browser that has an 'x' in it. Click it and it makes all the pain go away. If you would like further conversation on this...please feel free to PM me.
  6. Holy cow! Monster fish!! Doesn't the guy who caught it look like the guy who tagged it?? OMG another conspiracy!!...lol.
  7. Remember that parts of a fish count as a fish...by this i mean if you have the roe of two trout in your freezer, you have two trout in your freezer. This was added to the law to prevent people from removing roe of OOS fish.
  8. Yes..that much is true. I had the local CO's cell number and we met once a month. It is a shame they got rid of us.
  9. I was in that...the letter I got from the MNR said it was cancelled because of a lack of interest.
  10. Check to see how much more you will have to pay for insurance first!!
  11. True...which is why no one gets charged for dumping salmon at the tournies. All evidence points to them being risky meals.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8O3Plt8DyMk...player_embedded PS thanks to Rob for this link
  13. My deepest sympathies Joey. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.
  14. The CO, knowing the vehicle was not legal, had to say something to cover himself. Had you friend got into a collision on the way home, he could have been in trouble had he not said what he did.
  15. We have seen other sites do the same thing. It is a difficult balancing act...if we jump too soon we're censors, if we move too slow we are permitting abuse and anarchy. Fortunately we've all been on the net for many years and we usually can spot a thread about to tank quite early. We have a 'mod only' board were we let each other know what is going on and what we are watching for signs of trouble. I've been involved in the developments of dozens of sites, but not seen a group like this anywhere. The members here are top notch. Yeah even the ones like Dawg.
  16. Dude is throwin heat..lol. Great stuff, Dave, for an even better cause!!
  17. TonyB has requested we set everything visible on this thread. He wishes for his name to be cleared and we wish to give him that chance. New evidence has also come to light. This fish was reported as caught by steve o on another site with a report the DAY BEFORE he claims to have caught it on this site. After looking at the pics they are both similar in size, but you can clearly see the lamprey mark on Tony's fish is well healed and certainly not a fresh mark. There are other minor differences in the two fish. Anyway...have a look and form your own opinion. They are similar in size...I think steve's fish is actually a titch bigger but can't be sure. Bt since they are staging in the same area they are likely fromt he same hatchery and would of course look very similar.
  18. Guys, I know this is a hot topic..but this is not the right website or the right time for this. Holdfast..I thought we had an agreement???? If you want to talk about guys not living up to their word..check the mirror first.
  19. As we improve the waterways the spawning success increases...but we really have no idea what they are. It is certainly not self sustaining. By the time salmon reach maturity (5 yrs) they are a rather poor choice for food since they have rather high levels of toxins in them.
  20. Check with the town and if on a ravine, your local conservation authority before removing any trees. Lots of rules now about that stuff. Removing ravine trees can make the soil unstable.
  21. John's last line was, in reality, the real meat and potatoes of the whole thing. We all know this happens every single year. We rarely see this happening to spawning bass or walleye. Why...because those are naturally sustaining fish (the native status of bass is arguable). In a put and take fishery, it is hard to justify taking CO's away from watching the deer hunt, the bear hunt and other stuff going on to protect a resource that is only a week away from dying a futile death anyway. Now that doesn't make it right, but it is the facts and it is the reality of human resource allotment. We're better off calling both the MNR and the police. The police can handle these issues, but then again you run into the same argument. It is a terrible shame the MNR killed the Fish and Wildlife Guardian Program. We should do as local communities have with high crime or prostitution problems. Erect signs saying it is illegal and that we are watching and that we will take your picture and put it all over the internet so the world will see you are a poacher. But no one needs to be a cowboy and take on a gang of flossers or snaggers. Do not do anything that is beyond your comfort level. Grab a camera and take pics, take video...it may be all we can realistically do.
  22. Whoa....way over the line. You should thank your lucky stars you are not one of their fathers...or you would have a poacher for a son. Photoz is not responsible for the actions of these children..they and their parents are. Posting the pics of poachers of any age or race is absolutely fine. Maybe someone here will recognise one of the lads and have a talking to them. Photoz is a senior member and well respected. You'd do well to have half the heart he does. Photoz is not in any position physically to take on a bunch of teenagers. I will expect you to show more respect and decorum in the future.
  23. Jeez...I don't even know what to do with this. I will leave it here but lock it. John it is customary to at least introduce yourself in a separate thread prior to something like this...but I admire your drive so I think its okay to leave this up. Anyone who may have a job for you can send you a PM.
  24. I think a running motor is worth almost that much, so sounds like a nice winter project
