Brian, is Trueglo the brand? if not, what is the brand name so I can look it up. Stan -
Congrats on the buck!

Great post LucG, I've read the new responses a few times and honestly am glad no one has made negative comments. Just reconfirms to me that this is the best community on the net. I look forward to any of your future posts in regards to what you might have trapped. I may even consider getting into it one day (mind you I said the same thing about hunting 10 years ago and just did my hunters' safety course this past weekend). How does one get into it anyways, are there courses or something or do you have to take up the skills by apprenticing?

Dabluz brought up a question I had in my mind, why do hunters need more than one crossbow? I'm assuming you only bring one while hunting, wouldn't one be sufficient for all game? Or are there specific actions that separate them like fishing rods? -
I fully agree with you too, it also bothers me that it's usually the same people who think a stop sign means slow to 40 km before making their turn (even in school areas!).

Thanks Cliff, but the first thing that comes to mind is how are you and your wife doing? I was meaning to get up there to pay you a surprise visit but a lot of other things have come up and gotten in the way of that plan. I trust you and your wife are doing well and apologize for not asking you in person as I had initially planned to. I will also look into the Middleton Crossbows. Please take care of you and your wife. I hope we'll meet up soon. Stan -

The course was an one day course at an instructor's house. The OFAH website has many courses posted for different areas. My course was 8am to 7pm with the exam. I would say it's not really hard unless you have the mentality that you are thinking to shoot everything in sight or anything out of sight that moves. It did go over some firearm safety items which I didn't really find any interest in but it was good to know just in case. PM me if you want my instructor's info (located in Stouffville). Stan -
Looks like they were waiting for you to invite them in! LOL!

That is really disgusting to hear, those were definitely not hunters but people who have no respect for the animals, private property, regulation rules and probably none for the authorities too. I truly hope these morons get caught before someone gets seriously injured by them.

Alright, since I like the fact Excalibur is Canadian and there are so many good comments so far, I have one further question, the difference I see in fps is 25 more the Vortex, does that make any significant difference in the field? I've been told I would likely be looking at about 30 yards max for the distance from shooting point to target. For about $200 difference is it worth the higher speed? -
With all the hunting pics and posts a couple weeks ago, I finally registered myself for a course. I finally did the hunter's safety education course yesterday. Since I'm not into rifle the HSE course was the one for me. Now the question is which crossbow should I consider? As one who has never done any hunting and will be learning quite a bit, I was hoping to see if anyone here could pass me some of there experiences with crossbows. I'm not interested in the compound bow as I have one weaker should due to a sports injury in high school. Looked at a couple of crossbows: 1) Excalibur Phoenix 2) Excalibur Vortex 3) Barnett Quad 400 4) Barnett Predator (a bit pricey though) Any thoughts would be welcomed. Stan

It's the first time I've seen that pic. That bull moose looks massive! Either it's big or it's walking through miniture world.

Congrats to you both!!!

Very nice Matt, congrats on the very nice 'ski. -
Look up a Loblaws with PC financial. Open an account with PC Financial, no minimums, no daily banking fees (e.g. debit card use on most transactions, monthly fees, or such) and deposit and withdraw without fees on CIBC ATMs, NO HOLDS (up to $20K) for most folks I've spoken to. If you like the branch like settings, I would also recommend HSBC, more fees than PC Financial but less than the big 5 banks (the last I looked anyways).

Happy Anniversary Lew!!

Congrats JohnnyB, looks like a keeper to me!!! Wishing you and the missus some restful nights! (as if that's gonna happen soon, hehe)

Diet is what I've been told and will believe. As above mentioned by MJL and Solo. I've caught Chinnies from Lake O with white (more grey) [Eewww] and red fleshed coho from G bay tribs. Definitely tastes different. The salmon I see in the local grocer are usually Atlantic salmon or "steelhead" salmon (what's with that? don't they know the difference? They really are rainbow trout.)

Congrats to your cousin Ted on the successful outing.

What do you hunters do with feathers and hides?

Thanks Brian, but what do you normally do with them? -
Hello to all you hunters, Instead of hijacking Buster's thread about my question. I was wondering what you normally do with the feathers off the birds you have taken? Does it just go into the trash/compost or do you try to use them (fly tying or mounting replicas)? Same question would apply to deer and moose hunters. For those that are just tossing them, are any of the feathers or hair salvageable for fly tying? If so I'd be interested in taking some off your hands (and out of the trash route). Decided to make it a poll. Thanks, Stan
