  1. Hi everyone, Could someone PM me any places in Bobcaygeon or Buckhorn that MAY have a boat rental for tomorrow? A friend and myself are without a boat tomorrow and will either rent a boat from either place or fish from the shoreline. Thanks in advance! Stan
  2. Here's an idea, why doesn't someone at the MNR send some people to capture as many cormorants as they can and sell them (MNR could use the money) to the areas just south of Lake Michigan where the Asian carp are, clip their wings so they can't fly away. Since cormorants are natural fish predators they should eat the smaller carp and continued netting of the bigger carp will still be needed, wouldn't they make good organic fish fertilizer? We also need to find a market for the cormorants, how far from the taste of duck would be, anyone know? Some other thoughts: If the fish has edible meat: Fish meat balls or fish paste. Places down there could set up a new attraction or festival that would draw more attention. Free Asian carp fishing license with no limit or seasons in the affected areas. With no C&R allowed. Just some thoughts.
  3. Good to hear that you're okay Wayne.
  4. Cichlids are not the same as the sunfish family. Here's some links: The freshwater bass (largemouth and smallmouth) we are familiar with are of the sunfish family (the last I looked anyways from primary school). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cichlid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrarchidae http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smallmouth_bass Hope this clarifies things for you, Stan
  5. 21 and 104
  6. My guess would be more closer to the otter. Possibly a slight mutation, the skeletal framework and musculature doesn't seem to match a bear or bear cub, I would more likely believe it was an otter that died and the fur washed off it's waterlogged head and front paw (looks possibly webbed), an otter's fur is sensitive to heat. otter teeth pics: Just my thoughts.
  7. Don't know much about the aqua thermal. But congratulations none-the-less! Now I can look forward to some more fish porn posted by you.
  8. Is it open for crossbow hunting on Sundays?
  9. Congrats Greg on the 3rd place finish and the monster perch. I'm hoping I'll have a bit more time to fish this summer.
  10. Yes, Randy, that's the exact same pic in the papers. As I mis-typed earlier and meant, I believe the fish to be real just not from Ontario.
  11. All very true Roy, but it's annoying nonetheless. Yes, Randy, I'm talking about that Fraser River Sturgeon pic. I'm not saying the fish was a fake, just the story behind it. Stan
  12. My receptionist out front asked me if I had heard about the 1000lb sturgeon caught from Kenora (as the paper reports). I looked at the pic at it was a pic I have definitely seen in the past on here (boat in the background with about 11 guys holding a sturgeon in the water. Sounds familiar?) Anyways, I wanted to look up the post to confirm it, anyone else have the link to the original post? Why don't the newspaper journalist don't seem to verify their stories before publishing it?!! I'll see if I can find a link on the paper's website, apparently they reported it was information from the Toronto Star.
  13. Plus, beavers are territorial and wouldn't survive if there is another beaver family in the vicinity.
  14. Congrats Brian.
  15. Hire a local trapper. Where is the problem beaver located?
  16. Looks like I'll be able to pick up some free bait today (worms are out).
  17. Thanks Brian, I'm looking at Google Maps and not sure which marina/docks you are talking about, could you PM me the closest road (as I don't frequent Collingwood at all)? I can't locate the grain mill you mentioned. Thanks, Stan
  18. Thanks Fisherman and Ketchenany for your replies. I don't think fishing in a private pond will be an option. I will have to try and look up any bait & tackle shop up that way then. Thanks a bunch again, Stan
  19. Hi Everyone, I've got a couple of days I need to be up near Collingwood for work and will have my kids up there with me too. I was wondering if anyone could PM me any place(s) where I could take the kids (9 & 6) for some shoreline panfish for a few hours. I know there are some trout rivers there but I don't think my kids will have the patience for them (using the 15 minute time span equation). I will be up there just before the trout opener (24th). Thanks, Stan
  20. Gee, I thought the same thing, was interested on what kind of toque or hat warmnest rating was in place.
  21. I have both reels, both are good. I find the Sedona's fighting drag useful for Steelhead, the Regal for the same size class had a slightly better balanced feel (to me) but I've had the previous model's bail come apart while fighting a fish (my guess it got banged up on something). The extra spool does come in handy (my sedona did come with mine when I bought it at LB). Could have been a promo way back.
  22. Ahh, the memories! Good luck, hope you get some rest soon!
  23. Went out thursday at the same area, fished about 97 FOW, lots of fish marked, but I didn't get any hits, some guys using the same lure 50 ft away got 3 whities. Ice was about 16 inches, I drove my van without any problems. Good luck, 1/2 and 1/2 williams and pure silver worked well for those catching on thursday. Stan
  24. Great job TJ! Registered, now I have to find some fish that aren't camera shy, LOL!
