Hi All, I'm thinking of taking my family (wife and two young kids) up to Singing Sands up in the Bruce Peninsula. Plan to hit some beaches and kid friendly attractions. Planning to leave from Markham on Saturday morning and perhaps stay the night up there before returning Sunday. Anyone have any suggestions on where to stop for activities? Any shore fishing spots for panfish would be nice for the kids. Please PM me. Some considerations so far: 1. Owen Sound has a salmon derby going on and they have a weigh in tent set up with a fish fry (so I've been told). 2. Grey Roots (something like Pioneer village). 3. Sauble Falls beach. 4. Bruce Trail light houses and rock beaches. 5. Tobermory (maybe, likely not) Thanks, HearingFish

I got all excited thinking someone from the team has finally landed a musky for the team. Keep at it. If it was legal sized and not going to survive, then I see nothing wrong with eating the fish. Let's see some pics when you get them!

MJL - Nice pics MJL, looks like a couple of spots to consider for sure! Thanks. I'll be keeping a eye out for posting on when the fish may be near the spots. Sinker - thanks for the update, I guess this weekend may still be too early unless we get a bit of rain but I don't see it in the forecast. I'd still appreciate the directions if you get a chance. That's a whale shark, no human remains inside, just organs that look like human legs at that angle. The newspaper is trying to divert attention away from they troubles. Plus the whale shark, as pointed out on comments below is on the endangered species list and shouldn't have been cut up for food like that. Stan

Thanks Sinker for the suggestions, I'd be more than happy to give those places a look. Are they really fish ladders or just a single dam. I don't need have fishing in those spots only a good viewing area for the kids. Could you PM me some details. FHR - I've seen the Milne dam, it's not a ladder, not very easy to look at by kids and the water smells like sewer water (the last time I went, I almost gagged). The Toogood pond has a fish ladder but I don't know of any Salmon or trout that would make it there past the Milne dam, makes me wonder what they were thinking about when they built it. JD - wise@$$, try going over to the channel and turning up the sensitivity to high, it'll make all the little bit of weed passing look like monsters! LOL Stan

I'd definitely agree, it's not been my first time out with Greg and that's why we chose him to get onto some fish. He's a class act like many others on this board. The only other guide from this board I've gone with is Marc Thorpe, another classy individual with loads of knowledge to pick up from. Stan

Hi All, Finally got to go out fishing with a few of friends on Sunday. Now, my friend Peter got hooked on fishing about 3 years ago, or so he says. He had mentioned that he had yet to have caught his first walleye/pickeral. So this was the most opportune time to have one fish marked off on his "to catch" list. The day started off waking up at 3:10 am (too antsy to stay asleep). Started quietly packing some food, a cooler, a fishing rod (although I was told I didn't need to bring one), and some drinking water. All the while hoping not to wake up my wife and kids. Printed off the planned route and a contact number. Got out the house at about 5 am to get gas and pick the first friend (CK) and then headed to meet up with Peter at 5:30am. After a short drive and reaching Fenelon Falls at 7:10 am and meeting up with Greg Klatt at 7:30 am, we then proceeded to the target lake. The day started off cloudy and a bit windy, as a cold front was passing through. Shortly after the quick boat run to the spot and following the excellent advice of our guide Greg, Peter hooks into his first walleye! Peter makes it 3 - 0 before anyone else hooks a walleye. There were a number of fishing boats out there around us and the fishing seemed to slow down around 11 am. After drifting a few areas and then changing locations a few times, we had gotten on to a number of fish. Many were released and some of the smaller better eating sizes were kept for the table. All in all, my guess is that we had boated over 20 fish (walleye, bass, and rock bass) and had a fantastic day out with Greg who definitely was putting on a clinic on how to get the walleye to bite. Nothing to add to the tourney but it was a great day out with friends. Stan

Hi All, I recall someone asking this question last year but since I can't find the last post, I'll ask it again. Where is the best place to watch salmon jump up a fish ladder or similar? I'm in Markham, my wife and kids want to watch the salmon jump in reasonable comfort. I'm not looking for a fishing spot, I've got a couple of those already, just a watching spot. What time of day is best for salmon jumping? For those who don't want to post the spot on the board, please PM me. Stan

Well last week was slow at the office, Saturday comes around and I've finished all my appointments, then a good fishing friend calls me up asking if I'd want to go fishing for a couple of hours after work? I obviously would be interested but I had to get clearance from my wife. A quick call and I find out that she will be going to a friend's place for a bbq, she gives me the okay to go! I finished work at 4:30pm on Sat, get home at around 5pm (I've been walking to work this month when it's nice out). A quick change of clothes (figured showing up in a shirt and tie would look ridiculous). Quickly grab a few rods (5 to be exact), I probably only needed to take two and got into the car to head to the fishing spot. About 40 mins later, I arrive at the spot, my fishing friend and her family have already been fishing for the past 2 hours and landed 8 trout (6 of them). Now since I've been to this spot before, I went back to the lures that worked before, but this time only light taps on the line. My friend and her family were using live worms on a float. After about an hour of fishing with only a couple more landed fish by her family, they decide that it was time to pack up and take a couple of fish to the restaurant for preparation and dinner. I passed on the dinner invite as I hadn't landed a fish yet. Determined to land a decent fish without live bait I start changing my set up every 10-15 mins. It was about 8 pm when I was getting frustrated with no hook ups. Make the decision, one final change of lures and if I didn't hook anything I'd go home. Put on a blue and silver reef runner (this one was new and hadn't ever had a fish on it yet) and casted it out, reeled in about 6 ft and then BAM, fish on! A nice little rainbow about 15" with roe spewing out. Unhooked and put into a container (this one is dinner!). Casted the lure again, BAM within 8 feet of where I was standing. This time a very pretty looking natural speck about 13" (sorry no pics). Unhook the fish and then notice my bail on my Daiwa Regal Spinning reel had come apart and pieces must have fallen into the water . I say to myself, okay this must be the sign for me to pack up, so I did. Got home at about 9:10pm, fillet the fish, breaded and panfried. Fresh fish always tastes good to me. Now I have to wait until next Sunday to fish again. Thanks for reading. Stan

Bottled water conspiracy!??

Cool, it brings back memories when my older brother and I were fishing the lower river below hasting dam in a boat. He hooks on to a small fish, starts reeling it in then it takes off like a shot taking line, after 5 minutes a muskie flashes beside the boat and spits out the 8" rockbass with a nice 8 mm diameter hole in it's back that you could see through went lifted up to the eye. The rockbass was shaking in shock when it was put back into the water, my guess it either survived or another muskie got it soon after it went under the water. We never got that muskie. Have to follow Lew to get some lessons on doing Figure 8s.

Hey Cliff, I know that exact spot, my brother is up there as well. According to my mom, who just visited him yesterday, one of my brother's sons (he has 3) won his division (Age 7, maybe 8) with 40 sunfish and the largest fish (bass) to give him the double crown! PM me the name of your friend and I'll pass the name to my brother (who's up there every weekend) to see if they'd like to hook up some time. Glad to see your daughter had fun! Stan

Nice tanks, beauty rams as well, I have in the past had up to 9 aquariums running at one point. Sadly only one 100 gal tank left going, my Oscar for about 11 years just died (actually killed by my step-father, near 70 yrs ) , in the midst of re-doing the tank with live plants (Amano style) and thinking of going with African Cichlids. Mind you those rams have me thinking too. Like many others, I see no problem with being an angler and an aquarium hobbyist, definitely more linked than not. HF

Les, Your talking about Cliff and Carole, the both of them pull things out of the water like magic, just remember all of their posts since last fall! I'd expect a bunch of walleye pics from their outing at their current rate. Stan
