  1. Welcome to the family Jesse, I've only fished there once last fall, had my first river run steelie caught from shore there. I hope to head up that way soon to try again.
  2. Glen, what a read! You should bring a video cam next time, it sounds like something for the TV! Looks like a white crappie. I'm so used to seeing black crappie, it was a treat. Marinas should have lessons for first timers, that MAY have helped a bit. Maybe not sometimes. Thanks for the read.
  3. they didn't even try to advertise: All year open season Pike with no limit, they could have also held pike tournaments there to pull them out and put money into the local economy at the same time. So what happens to all the poisoned pike? Scooped out and put in to a landfill to poison another watershed?
  4. PM already sent (and received your response), north of TO in Markham.
  5. Although I believe it's mostly for tradition but if you think about the overall scheme of things there are benefits to this. There is a good balance of natural resource management here that could be learned elsewhere in the world. If all the fishermen were out with gill nets then there would be overfishing without a doubt. Local area would suffer in the long run as the fish would probably not be able to rebound. It gives the fish population a chance to as the cormorant can only catch so many as the cormorants are on a type of leash. It also provides the local area a tourist attraction providing more money to the economy. I don't think it would be as interesting a picture to have a guy scooping up fish from a net. (personal opinion only) Cormorants population are then regulated by the fishermen and government. It's all about balance.
  6. It may sway my vote but the fact that the PC gov't cut alot of the funding to begin with when I was in University (more than a decade ago) still bites, it changed my studies and all. I still remember when I was looking for volunteer work at the Wye whats his name when they took 2/3rds funding away basically shutting down the places I could look for. The McGuity Gov't has followed all other with their broken promises and makes it hard to believe them too. I guess I'll still have to mull over it all as it comes closer. Seems more like who hasn't ticked me off more vote.
  7. CONGRATS!!!
  8. WTG, a little ice and it would look like the fish market!! Awesome catch!
  9. WTG on your first salmon!
  10. Congrats and may you both have tight lines throughout your trip.
  11. Happy Anniversary Terry!
  12. Now that is an impressive list of items, two of which stands out to be to be a bit stretched. Ear infections and Ebola. Ear infections I know very well of since I'm in the hearing industry, that said, I know of another item that claims about the same amount of effectiveness with the same range but I've personally tried it and has not lived up to it's claims. It may very well depend on the type of infection but that's a broad sweeping statement above. Ebola , well that's an untreatable virus as I recalled but maybe that changed so I googled it and found: "... Because Ebola is potentially lethal and since no approved vaccine or treatment is available, Ebola is classified as a biosafety level 4 agent, as well as a Category A bioterrorism agent by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention." Now if they had HIV and cancer in the list, I'd know it would have be too far fetched but I don't know, it may be worth a look. Be cautious of wild claims. HF
  13. DouG, I'll need your address to send you the bill for mess on my keyboard! LOL And Yes, if it hasn't cleared up after a couple of days, why aren't you at the doctor's? HF
  14. Been there, watched it. It's a blast to watch. To those grossed out, well, it's like your hunting dog bringing back the bird you just shot. The cormorant doesn't eat the fish, it holds it in it's mouth as the Ukai fishermen have a special ring around the neck to prevent them from swallowing the tasty smelt like fish. The cormorants nip an area to stop the fish and to get a bit of the fatty oil in them. The fish have a sweet oil in them that make them so popular. Deep fried or BBQ roasted, ummm yummy memories. Perfect scenario for the term work smarter not harder! Get the birds to locate and catch the fish for you! Thanks
  15. Yup, Marc is a class act like many other OFNCers. I've been only once out with him but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him if your in his neck of the woods.
  16. Congrats on your first Salmon, definitely a nice one to start with. Stan
  17. Okay, now that you're trolling at 116, I guess you really don't have to worry about the hook set right? You're getting into Irishfield's trolling speed range now (with his float plane!!), let's see some of those fish caught while trolling at 116. LOL I'm imagining everythings been peeled off except for the mouth. But seriously, nice ride. HF
  18. Wayne, Indeed a scary reminder of not to take Mother Nature for granted and to always caution on the safe side. I could feel the parental concerns from your post as I read them. And I'm definitely glad to hear that everyone is safe. The sat. phone is on my list now if I plan to go out of cell range for a trip. Thanks again, be well. Stan
  19. Awesome Part 2! Welcome to the OFC Diane. You've set the bar high. I must agree, that sounded like an amazing trip. I definitely thank Scuro (Chris) for such a great post. Now to finishing dreaming and get back to reality for me. LOL Stan
  20. Wow, congrats on your 'ski. Welcome to OFC. I believe it is E. Masquinongyitis that Dr. Trophymuskie had diagnosed you with. LOL
  21. I recall watching a sturgeon fishing show that was filmed on Lake Superior, some huge sturgeons videoed one longer that the guy's boat if I recall. I can't recall the show's name. But I'd be inclined to believe there are huge sturgeon in Lake Superior.
  22. An awesome report indeed! What a beautiful area and superb fish! Thanks for the post.
  23. Pete, great to hear that you and your dad had a fun day out on the water. Looking forward to seeing the pics. Stan
  24. Ouch! See you got dinner though. I hope it heals well, but make sure it doesn't get infected since you were using live bait.
  25. Awesome report, can't wait to read Part 2.
