  1. Dispite the league having a blanket policy on cameras my experience is that it is enforced very differently from one rink to the next. Basically if it is a team that doesn't sell out you can walk in with a bazooka of a lens and they'll just ask you to not get in the way of the other fans. They don't do squat about the bozos that video everything with their portable devices. The league is in the dark ages. This the same league that resisted putting names on the backs of sweaters because the owners were worried about program sales. Inbreeding.
  2. Apparently the NHL never considered that the 2 wildcard teams could end up playing against a team from the other division and are considering a change for next year. As an example, right now the Leafs have the 1st wildcard position (sort of 7th, but not really) and would play Pittsburgh (2nd). The Rangers are the 2nd wildcard (8th) and would play Boston(1st). If the league changes things for next year then the teams would switch and even though the Bruins have the most points they would have a "tougher" first round opponent then the second place Pens. So, for clarity, they have a bad play-off format and are thinking about changing it... by making it worse. Perfect example of the problems caused by inbreeding.
  3. In light of St. Paddy's Day. Dan Jenkins's list of Mankind's 10 Stages of Drunkenness: Witty and Charming Rich and Powerful Benevolent Clairvoyant "Forget" Dinner (or something similar) Patriotic Crank Up the Enola Gay Witty and Charming, Part II Invisible Bulletproof Please celebrate safely.
  4. I get so much enjoyment taking my son fishing. Grandkids must be 10x the fun.
  5. It was weird driving by Kempenfelt Bay this morning and not seeing all the huts (and teepees) out there.
  6. How many times is an adult allowed to change his allegiance? Of course, this assumes that any answer besides never is acceptable for a fanatic.
  7. How the heck did that happen???
  8. Seeing the King's purple uniforms got me thinking about the changes that all the teams make from time to time. I found this site: http://www.nhluniforms.com/index.html
  9. Leafs and Boston can only meet in 1st or 2nd round unless Leafs finish in the wildcard that plays Metro division leader and beats them.
  10. I was really worried…then I realized that Team Canada won't be in the play-offs and that the old, slow team in beantown is just about the farthest thing from the Olympic gold medalists. We saw what happened last season in the play-offs and now Toronto has improved the goaltending. No one believes they are the Cup favourite but there are a lot of positives and they are heading in the right direction.
  11. Is that beacuse he keeps getting nailed? Sorry, getting a little punchy with these late nights.
  12. I find it interesting how many hockey fans ate worried about someone who has zero to do with what they watch during the actual game. When do they get a beer and walk the dog?
  13. If only there existed a device that could be used to find the answers to these questions. What a magical thing that would be. 60 metres.
  14. Rogers is calling the shots now. CBC will be involved for 4 more years but the Roger's contract is with the NHL for 10 years and they will decide who will be involved.
  15. Gardiner is the key guy on both goals. He's still a young defencemen.
  16. 14-3-3 can make some feel good, it's just gravy that it also make many feel so sad.
  17. Of course Simon has already done his own version of this but... https://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/daily-buzz/video-chronicles-life-canada-eyes-englishman-194857333.html Canada rocks! So much so that James O’Malley from Leicester, England, filmed himself doing as many "Canadian" things as he could during his visit to Ontario. In just three minutes, O’Malley is able to capture all things Canadian through his video montageposted to YouTube. Sure, Canada has all kinds of stigmas, all of which we accept whole-heartedly. Sorry, but it’s just the kind of people we are. And we say sorry…a lot. In his video O’Malley visits all the Canadian tourist attractions such as the CN Tower, the ROM, Honest Eds, The Beer Store, Tim Hortons, Niagara Falls, The Brunswick House (which is now where flocks of college students come to drink their stresses away), and Casa Loma, among many others. He did as many "Canadian" things that he could including: ice fishing, snowmobiling, 5-pin bowling, travelling across a frozen river in a car, shooting a gun, enduring a snowstorm in a t-shirt, watching children play hockey (and avoiding the crazy hockey mom's), driving on ice roads, and attending the most expensive hockey game he'll probably ever attend, aka The Toronto Maple Leafs. O’Malley seemed especially excited about driving on the "wrong" side of the road! In many of his clips, he certainly doesn’t look prepared for the weather. Did he miss the memo on the horrendous winter we've had this year? It. Is. Cold. Like, bring-a-parka-even-if-it’s-not-winter kind of cold. Apparently O’Malley even found the ‘7-ELEVEN’ convenience store chain worthy of being in his ‘All-Canadian’ video. Even our old pal George Stroumboulopoulos himself makes a cameo in O’Malley’s video! The video ends in the most fitting way; O’Malley falling asleep in the back seat of a car as all his Canadian sightseeing surely tuckered the poor Englishman out. His video is a nice little reminder of the amazing things we have in this country, right in our own backyards! So, get out and have enjoy a new Canadian adventures, eh?
  18. I'm not a big fan of Dion, and even less a fan of his contract, but he does log the most minutes (against the top forwards) on a team that doesn't play the most defensive focused game. His defensive partner for most of those minutes also contributes to the results.
  19. … Flips his pen and walks away. What the heck is with the black on white???? I remember when Strombo was on the FAN590 (might have been before it was at 590???). He has done sports, but as the host knowledge of sports isn't really the highest priority. It's setting up after coming back from commercials, going to commercials, setting up guests and panelist. He will also interview some guests, he can do that. He won't be doing play-by-play so you can still watch the games.
  20. Rogers announcing the hosts for hockey next season. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/rogers-unveils-nhl-broadcasting-dream-team/
  21. They all taste the same.
