  1. That's easy. Bettmen isn't about competition. He's about artificial parity. Three point games, unbalanced schedules and the play-off system all contribute to this.
  2. Top 3 teams in each of the new 4 divisions get in the play-offs. The next top 2 teams in each conference get in. They are called the wildcard teams. The division winner with the most points plays the wildcard team with the least points. The other division winner plays the other wildcard team. The 2nd and 3rd place teams in each division play each other (in their own division). The 2nd round will still be within the division. If a wildcard team beats a division winner that wildcard team will "stay" in that division for the second round even if they are from the other division. In the fanfare of the new re-ilinement and play-off format the league was very quite about this part. Based on today's standings and just for a reference: Eastern Conference Atlantic Division Bos 87 Mon 77 Tor 76 Metro Pit 88 Phi 73 Nyr 72 Wildcard TB 74 Det 71 First round Pit v Det Phi v Nyr Bos v Tb Mon v Tor If Detroit beats Pittsburg, Detroit will play the winner of Philly/NYR.
  3. It's quite possible the team with the 7th best record (not the 7th seed) in the conference will have the easiest 1st round match-up. And depending on how the first round goes the 2nd round could also be messed-up. I hope they revamp this system in the summer, but considering that would require an admittance of their own mistakes and the slightest indication of intelligence from the owners/league I won't be holding my breath. The point to Philly could matter if the Leafs and Philly end up in the wildcard positions or meet in the semifinals.
  4. Nighty night. Bump those clocks ahead and replace those batteries.
  5. Like the 2 points, but hate to give the single in the conference.
  6. Have to wonder if the 3 Cali teams have ever been this good, let alone this late in the season?
  7. Humourless? It's too bad the person who explained the post to you didn't convey the intent.
  8. And that is way you can't leave the laptop open when the kids are around.
  9. What is the date on that article? We have to be careful with how our individual experiences influence what we believe to be reality. My average size has never been better on Nipissing and has been very good for the last 5-6 years. I won't keep fish over the slot so getting walleye for the last number of years for even one feed has been a challenge. The question as to what state the lake is in currently is important, but it is even more important to know whether or not it is improving or declining. That can't be determined from a few fishing trips every year.
  10. … Or 7, 6, 5 or 4...
  11. I'd type a more verbose reply buy I'm now worried about my own finger prints.
  12. Tough for St. Louis to score, or set-up anybody when they're all used to digging for pucks in the corners. Maybe Stamkos will sign in NY.
  13. Ya I went and checked the other tv. It's the feed. TSN Amateurs.
  14. I was wrong Vanek. He isn't that good of a fit. Word is it will take 5-7 days for Montreal to get a jersey big enough to fit him.
  15. For a over rated player who doesn't put up a point a game? He fits in perfectly.
  16. So does the tire pump stay in Florida or does it go to Dallas?
  17. He was being interviewed on TSN and was giving the James Duthie (sp?) and the panel a couple of shots.
  18. The points (and wins) won't come in NY the way they did in Tampa. He had a tantrum when he didn't get named to the Olympic team. He was the captain of his team.
  19. Given his career in Tampa this makes him look like a 7 year old who's mother didn't buy him some candy while at the grocery store. He will not find the net in NY the way he did in Tampa and after his career is over he will look back on this as an awful move. Yzerman did well considering the circumstances.
  20. Found some info on Long term IR. Still don't know if Bolland is or isn't. http://www.capgeek.com/faq/how-does-long-term-injured-reserve-LTIR-work Can't see trading Bolland. He's been, and still is hurt, and he's a UFA. That can't be that much trade value versus his potential use in the play-offs.
  21. Being on IR doesn't automatically give cap releif. It has to be long term and the team has to request for the relief from the league. I don't think the Leaf's asked/received cap relief for Bolland.
  22. If Bolland re-signs, that doesn't impact this year's cap.
