I have a 2' high wooden retaining wall in the yard and I was trimming the grass right at the end of it. I'm thinking the bees were living down in the ground where the wooden 6x6 timbers meet the ground. That was my 1st impression anyways. My neighbor dropped off a pressurized container of bug killer for tomorrow but there's an aerosol made specifically for killing wasps, hornets and bees that I've used before and it practically kills on contact. I may go into town tomorrow and grab a couple cans. I'll definitely be wearing long pants, gloves and my bug jacket when I do the deed though.

Thanks again boys, I'm starting to fell like I'm 18 again....almost. We were coming back from a week at Mashkinonje Lodge on the West Arm Glen. Heading up to Memquisit for a couple more weeks in August.

Thanks guys and I'm feeling better by the minute. I was in a bit of panic mode I spose and honestly don't know for sure what they were, but they didn't appear to be as long as a wasp or hornet & I'd guess they were maybe a 1/2-3/4 inch long but I'm sure no expert on them. Interesting too how there's always somone alot worse off than we think we are. As I was laying on the stretcher in the ER feeling sorry for my lousy luck, a man was wheeled in on a stretcher with his face covered in blood and shortly after that another ambulance brought in a small boy who was crying and wearing a neck brace and was followed by a police officer so we just sorta guessed the little guy was in some type of accident. No matter how bad we've got it, someone else has it alot worse. And I've got good neighbors around here too, after they saw me leave in the ambulance somebody put away all my tools and lawnmower.

Today was beautiful and I spend hours in the yard just working and the flower beds and grass. I was down on my hands & knees when it suddenly felt like someone was sticking needles in me. Within seconds I was being attacked by a huge swarm of bees and after a couple more seconds most of my body was covered in the bees. I was wearing shorts and T-Shirt so there was plenty of bare skin for them to go after and I swear every bee hated me and was doing their best to kill me. I pulled off the T-Shirt and used it to try and swat away as many as possible while I ran for the back door. I sure as heck didn't want them in the house so I stayed on the deck until I was sure I had them all off me then I made and mad dash inside and closed the door behind me but the swarm was still trying to get at me. Within seconds my head started spinning like crazy and I couldn't stand up anymore so I sat down on the nearest chair. While the whole world was spinning like crazy I started feeling sick like I've never felt before and I honestly thought this attack and the huge amounts of venom was killing me. The nearest ambulance is in Lakefield which is 8 miles south of me and when we called 911 they were here within 10 minutes and the volunteer firemen were here before them. I was a fireman down in Toronto for 32 years and can't tell you how absolutely impressed I was with all the emergency personel who responded and took care of me. They immediately put me on oxygen and epronephron (sp) then loaded me into an ambulance for the long rush down to Peterboro hospital. It was lights & siren the whole way and the normal 40 minute drive was done in half that time. My whole body was shaking and I was in alot of pain. I was rushed into Emergency and they started helping me almost before the stretcher came to a halt. They hooked me up to a bunch of fluids and treated me like I was the most important person in the hospital. They kept me there for 5 hours until I was feeling better and once they saw I could walk down the aisle and back without tipping over they sent me home. I'm still weak and many of the bites are still very sore but most of the swelling has gone away and I'll be good as new in the morning....hopefully. It may be the worst medical emergency I've ever personally gone through and I know my wife and daughter were both scared for my life. Out here in the country it's nice to know we have outstanding emergency crews around and a hospital not too far away that treats the patients with total respect and the dedication shown by the staff at Peterboro hospital. Long story but I'm just glad I made it thru OK....and so are my family and and friends. SO...how was YOUR day. Picture my daughter took with her phone.

That's what it's all about right there.

Lotsa good ideas here guys and thanks, I'm gonna pass them on, but right now I think he's gonna give the coyote decoys a try.
-
Musky or Specks, that looks like a plan but the property is 200' across so just because of the size it may not be feasible. Manjo, I also suggested the yellow rope but that was tried a few years back and wasn't successful in that particular place.
-
Thanks for the suggestins guys, I'm gonna pass them along. I checked TSC down in Peterboro and they have coyote decoys for $60 & $80 so their gonna go have a look at them. The fireworks is another thought that may work. They've tried blocking the boat ramp and everything else but that doesn't even seem to slow the birds down. My bud is 89 years old now so he needs something that doesn't involved alot of running or chasing on his part.
-
I've heard of that before Brian, wonder if you can rent them anywhere.

My bud just down the road from me has a gorgeous waterfront home with about an acre of lush green lawns and lately he's getting invaded by a huge flock of Canada Geese nearly every night. They have a gardener who's spent the last 3 days cleaning up the filth and every morning the mess is back again. They come up his boat ramp or just fly over the retaining wall. They've tried everything to scare them away including dogs, noise and even running at them but they just keep coming back for more. He had the same issue a few years back and killed a couple of the birds with a shotgun and just left the carcasses on the ground and that seemed to scare then away but now he's got some nieighbors not too far away and doesn't want to use a gun again. Anyone know of a sure fire way to keeps these birds off his property ??

Best of luck Brian, we'll all be pulling for you bud.

Congratulations Rick, outstanding news !!

We had Ole Marv cremated too Matt and his ashes put in a nice cedar box with his name engraved on it. He's in the den now where we spend most of our time and his favorite toy is with him. You can see it in the picture to his left.

If your just looking for numbers of fish the Kawarthas is a good spot as it's almost impossible to have a bad day there, but the majority of your fish will be on the small side. If you want a chance at multiple fish along with the possibility of some very big fish you may want to consider a drive down to Lake St. Clair.

They used to float alot of logs down the Ottawa Matt, sometimes those old deadheads will pop up and ding you then disappear again. I hit something in 20' of water one time on a body of water I'd been on for 3 decades and knew every inch of. They used that lake to float logs too and I'd bet $$$$ it was a deadhead that got me also.

French River and Lake Nipissing June 27th to July 2nd 2015

Nice fishing tale wvmedic and it's good to hear you had a great vacation. It's always been my opinion that when your fishing that area there's no such thing as a bad trip, infact it's one of my favorite spots anywhere in this big beautiful country. Your right about Frank & Charlene at Memquisit too, their great folks and we've stayed with them several times and will be back for another 2 weeks starting August 8th. It was sad when Lakair closed down but now it's good to see a favorite place of mine being reborn and hopefully it runs for many more years. -
Really sorry for your loss Matt and I definitely feel your pain, infact just reading your post brought a tear to my eye. Putting down your bud is one of the toughest things a man ever has to go through.

Wilderness Outpost camp for sale - Maskinonge Lake
lew replied to Jds63's topic in General Discussion
Just wanted to be sure nobody confuses this advertised camp on Mashkinonje Lake with Mashkinonje Cottages on Lake Nipissing that some of us from this board frequent. Totally different places.
