Thanks Cliff, it's just something I enjoy doing, guess you could call it a hobby.....a very expensive hobby LOL
-
A bag of feed is 50 pounds and lasts about 2 days Cliff but if the weather is nasty I put out extra.
-
Yeah, these guys are pretty laid back Paul LOL As for the salt, I put a block out 2 years ago and they didn't seen the least bit interested and by the end of the winter it still looked almost new. Maybe I'll grab another one and see if they like it.
-
Thanks boys, glad to hear you enjoy seeing these guys as much as I do. Last night just before sunset I had a deer in the yard with the biggest set of antlers I've ever seen on a deer but there wasn't enough light for a picture. Sure hope I can get a good picture of him before he drops the antlers. That lad was a true trophy...at least to me anyways.

In the last hour I've had 7 deer and 3 turkeys show up for something to eat and I always get a kick out of watching them share the trough and even make room for each other. You'd almost think they were buds

Private Cottage Recommendation for Weekend Ice Fishing Trip
lew replied to adempsey's topic in General Discussion
Some places don't want dogs because they shed hair and make a mess of the cabins and create a lot of extra work for the folks cleaning them. I know of at least a couple places that require a deposit that's refunded if there's no mess but keep it to cover the extra expense of cleaning unwanted hair. -
The fire was only a few miles from me, lousy news for sure.

Great picture Bud and Merry Christmas to you & yours

Driving down my road this morning coming back from town and it was snowing like crazy and I come across a ghostly figure ahead of me. Turns out it was a beautiful doe out for an early morning stroll enjoying the scenery so I took her picture.

Thanks guys, good to hear everybody likes seeing deer and Dara, that's a couple great pics of a lot of deer. Most I've had in the yard at one time was 17. I've also thought of the trail cam. Here's a favorite picture I took a couple years ago. That's a big ole Tom turkey that took up residence in my yard for the whole winter once he found out there was a constant food supply and he didn't care how many deer were already at the trough, he'd just muscle his way in between everybody and gorge himself. Best part was watching the deer move over for him and If he could'nt push his way thru the crowd he'd jump right up into the trough LOL

Thanks boys, I may look into another camera this winter.

Every winter I keep a trough full of a mixture of corn, oats and molasses in the back yard for the deer and usually have about a dozen deer a day stop by for something to eat. Mostly females, some with young ones, but I seldom see any males until this year and in just the last couple days I've had 5 different males show up and it sure is impressive to watch these big magnificent bucks up close. None of these pictures are very good and I'm thinking it's time for a new camera but you can get an idea of what I get to watch every day. They range from a 4 pointer, a 6, a 7, an 8 pointer who lost one antler 2 days ago right up to one that was here twice today and my best guess it has somewhere around 12 to 13 points from what I could see thru the binoculars. These are all different deer in my yard from the last couple days. The 8 pointer with a full rack Same critter with one side missing And the last one with a HUGE rack

Merry Christmas to everyone and hopefully Santa is good to everybody.

Automatic car starter advice please. Not Fishing related
lew replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
As I said in my reply, I know nothing about remote starters so I wasn't sure how they worked. On my truck, once it's started with the remote you need to unlock the door then insert the key in the ignition and turn it on. Perhaps they're all designed the same way. -

I know nothing about after market starters but try and get one that you can use to also lock your cars doors remotely. You don't want to start the car and then have some low life steal it on you. -
And sometimes I wear my fancy hat Norm

Good to hear Rick LOL

If you've had so many stolen maybe you should be replacing your neighbors too

Snow shovelling is a job I've always enjoyed and unless we get at least 6" I don't even bother with the snow blower. I've got 250' of driveway plus I clear a 50' x 10' path at the back of the house, 75' x 10' up the side of the garage plus I clear off a 50' x 12' deck and enjoy nothing more than spending 1/2 the day digging out. Last night we got about 8" of the heavy stuff though so this time I cheated and fired up the TORO LOL
-
Actually there were 100's of footprints along the narrow trail and I followed them for probably 1/4 mile and they were definitely sticking to the easy path rather than wandering into the heavy cover.
-
Yup, definitely possible to be a big dog but as far as I know there aren't any large ones around here. We're well off the hwy and if it was a dog he would have walked a long ways thru the woods to get here.
-
We got 5-6 inches of snow yesterday so those tracks were made last night sometime....or early this morning. It was mild over night and above freezing today so there was certainly some snow melt.
-
There's a trail that winds through the woods behind me Rob that goes about 1/2 a mile out to the hwy and this fella followed it without veering away. Nice easy walk for anything and I spose he was taking advantage of not having to step around things. He definitely appears to have had a destination rather than just meandering There was also fresh deer tracks on the trail basically parallel to the others but I don't know who was there 1st and he eventually wandered off into the trees. Anyhoo, whatever the critter was it's good to have the fresh snow and see all the activity that goes on after the sun goes down. Best sighting I've had so far though was this big ole bear that was sleeping in the yard when I wandered out on the back deck one morning.
