Mornin boyz, I've just received a new sonar from Santa that also has a flasher unit on it, but I've never used a flasher before and have no idea how to interpret what it shows. I downloaded an emulator of my new machine from Lowrance to my computer to putz around with until I get the unit in the water, and just took this photograph on my computer screen. What do the different colors indicate, and do these things show structure or fish or are they more for just showing bottom density ?? I've used sonars for years and can read them well, but this is a 1st time for a flasher, so I'm just wondering if there's an advantage to the flasher over the standard sonar ?? Any thoughts ??

Yikes, that would be my last day too, Jon, guess pigeons don't seem so bad after that.

Nice picture Bob, they sort of look like a Cardinal with that tuft of feathers on their head. I've had a feeder in the yard for a couple years now and really enjoy seeing all the different critters that stop by to eat. I've got a huge flock of mourning doves that feed here consistently, and yesterday I counted (as close as possible) 47 doves eating at the same time, and right now, as I'm typing, there are about 25 out there. Costs us alot of $$$$ but it's definetely worth in in my opinion. My only problem now is I'm starting to get some pigeons dropping by, and sometimes see 7-8 in the yard eating the food, but I guess we have to take the bad with the good

I received a flyer from BPS that's advertising a Boxing Day sale from to-day until Jan 6th

I must have done something pretty good throughout this past year cause my family sure treated me nice this Christmas I dropped a few hints about a Canon A720IS that I've read some good reviews on, plus I needed a new sonar for the console to replace the old b/w unit I've been using for years, and I was fortunate to receive them both. This is the camera I wanted And this sonar will be great working alongside my GPS Heck, even ole Marv made out like a bandit. He has more fun ripping his gifts open than anybody else in the house I'm a lucky man with a wonderful family !! So, how'd you make out, what'd ya get from Santa ??

I pretty well worked either Christmas or New Years for about 37 years and now that I don't work anymore it's nice to be home for the entire holiday season. Howz bout you, are you stuck with working over the holidays ??
-
Yup, your absolutely doing the right thing Rick. We payed $1100 nearly 30 years ago to have our pooch fixed up after an injury and never gave it a 2nd thought, even though that was a pile of $$$$ back then that we couldn't really afford either. Jack will let you know exactly how he feels about your decision once he's up & around. Merry Christmas bud, yer a good man !!

Well folks, it's the morning of Christmas Eve and the big guy in the red suit will be heading out later today to start his rounds with his bag of goodies, so I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish all OFNers & your families a VERY Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year It looks icy out this morning, so drive safely

Thanks Glen, maybe I better add some weights to Ole' Marv to keep him on the ground

Does your main motor not have an alternator to charge the cranking battery ??

The weather dude is calling for winds in the Toronto area to possibly hit over 90K tonight. Could be nasty for anyone out for a moonlight stroll.....be careful if you need to go anywhere.

Thanks Harry, it's one of my favorites too, a real classic !! Infact, it's on at 8:00 tonite on Rogers channel 6
-
......"Merry Christmas to memart and Terry"....... hmmmm, so does that mean you don't want to wish a Merry Christmas to the other 2450 of us OFNers' Brian ??

Your right Ben, both interesting AND informative. I've never had occassion to try backtrolling, but have certainly learned plenty from this post.

Were starting to see the bears around the trailer park now too Norm, infact we had one right in the park a couple years back. Dude was sitting on his porch enjoying a cold one, & the bear ran right across his front lawn, not 15' away. We also had one swim across that small channel out in front of us last summer.

Back attcha Tomcat !! And hopefully your dinner with all your family is another memory in the making

In many areas now there are so many deer that their becoming a danger to cars. Just last night I heard on the news where a car collided with a deer , went off the road and hit a tree and killed the passenger. I think they said it was in the London area.

Good link Jim, there's some great old baits in there. The old Pikie Minnow was my Dad's favorite lure and he used the same one for as many years back as I can remember and he caught everything from bass to pike to Quinte pigs on it. It's been chewed by so many fish over the decades that nearly all the paint is gone. When he was forced to give up fishing about 20 years ago, he passed it on to me, but I was afraid to use it incase anything happened. Finally about 15 years ago I gave into temptation and took it out for a troll to see if it would work as well for me as it did for him for soooooo long. Sure enuff, as I had worried about, after only trolling about 15 minutes it snagged on something and snapped my line and I'd lost my Dads favorite bait I was horrified but there was nothing I could do about it, so we contined fishing. After a couple hours we were trolling back thru the same channel and darned if my buddy didn't spot the lure floating close to shore. Somehow it had come loose and popped back to the surface....unbelievable I hung it in a place on honor in my Florida room at the trailer and will never fish with it again !! Thanks for the great memories Jim

I thought Toronto got out of hockey back in '67 ??

It's been a very long time since my kids were kids (don't tell my daughter I said that) but the memories of them when they were small on Christmas mornings will always be fresh. One of my fondest memories was having the kids put food out on the table on Christmas Eve for Santa & the reindeer.......Coke & cookies for Santa & carrots for the magic flying critters. They'd be sooooo excited at the thought that Santa & crew would actually stop and sit in OUR kitchen for a snack Christmas mornings the kids would be up at Lew o'clock, and before they'd even look at the gifts under the tree, they'd rush into the kitchen to check the food they'd left out. The looks on their faces would be priceless when they'd see the nearly empty coke bottle, the cookie crumbs on one plate and the carrot stubs on the other plate, knowing that Santa had actually been sitting in THEIR kitchen and eating the snacks they'd left out. Stuff like that is what Christmas is all about and the memories will last forever Howz bout your family. what are some favorite Christmas memories from when your own kids were small, or even when you were a kid yerself ??

Thanks for that great story, Ramble, reading those kind of reports early in the morning is always a great way to start the day. Luv the shot of the moose, loon & eagle all in the same picture together, you could wait a lifetime before you saw that again !!
